Dec. 10 1929.

The High Point Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. J.N. Moore on Dec 10., with 22 Members present. After some time spent in admiring the winter bouquets on exhibit, the president called the meeting to order and suggested that any questions on garden problems be asked during roll call.

The treasurer reported $37.50 in treasury.

The committee to see Mr. Lindley was continued.

Mrs. Taylor reported ordering two pink roses to complete the planting on our share of the High School fence.

Ms. S.C. Clark and Mrs. Taylor were asked to serve on the Christmas Green Preservation Com., Mrs. Clark for publicity through the newspaper and Mrs. Taylor in the schools.

Mrs. Jones agreed to write notes to the manager of Brookhurst theatre and to Mrs. Sykes in appreciation of their assistance in giving the Rose Show made possiblle by Mrs. J.E. Cox.

Virginia Garden Clubs' publication, Garden Gossip, and a request made that we get samples copies and look over before further considering subscribing.

The club voted to begin promptly at 10 o'clock and to look at any exhibits after the close of the meeting.

Mrs. Diffee and Mrs. Ralph Parker were in charge of the program on Nature in the Bible.

The club then adjourned to meet Jan 14 with Mrs. Harmon.

Mrs. N.C. Jones, press Eunice A Parker, sec.

Mrs. Ralph Parker and Mrs. L.J Diffee were in charge of the the program on "Nature in the Bible". Mrs. Parker used a map of Palestine effectively and by many quotations made us feel how closely Nature and God are identified. The use of illustrations from Nature by the Savior was mentioned. Mrs. Diffee had a number of specimens of plants and flowers of Palestine and her recollections of what she had seen were of interest.

Jan. 14. 1930

The High Point Garden Club met JAn. 14 with Mrs. E.T. Harmon. The meeting was opend with singing "Oh, beautiful for Gardens Green by Mrs. Carter Dalton, to the tune of "America the Beautiful." The Roll-Call showed 19 members present. The Minutes of last meeting were read and approved, excdept that the Secretary pro tem was asked to enlarge on the record of the program. The Corresponding Secretary read a letter about the magazine "Garden Gossip". Decided to defer action. A letter from Mrs. Hoagland of Oregon, asking information about the City Beautiful Campaign was also read. An invitation from the Burbank Garden Club was presented inviting our Club to a lecture at the Broadhurst, Jan. 29 at 10 o'clock. Cor. Sec. was asked to acknowledge this. A most appreciative letter was read from Mr. S.C. Clarkre his being made an honorary member. The Treasurer reported $40.50 on hand. Mrs. S.H. Tomlinson read letters about regional flower shows from two Virginia leaders. A general discussion followed sfter which it was voted unanimously to have a regional flower show and that the Chair appoint a committee to decide on time and place and to enlist the interest of other clubs. For the committee on the llucheon meeting; Mrs. D. H. Parker reported that arrangements have been made to have the luncheon at the Country Club at $1.25 a plate. Other matters about the luncheon were presented and considered.

The Committee on Preservation of Greens reported some publicity through the press. The schools had had some information from Washington about a disease among cedars, which made out work valueless.

Mrs. F. H. Taylor reported 22 roses planted on the High School fence and that the Good Will Garden Club was to finish the planting.

A unanimous vote of thanks to Mrs. Dalton for her charming poem,was passed and at the close of the meeting it was again sung.

Mrs. Taylor then gave a general paper on Garden Planning. She emphazized the value of a plan and the importance of green and of water in the garden. Both these add to an effect of coolness, especially when the pool contains a blue lily reflecting the azure above. Mrs. Siceloff followed in a delightful informal talk in which she urged not attempting what is doomed to failure but instead, she advised us to study what is especially adapted to our climate and conditions. Mrs. V.A. J. Idol and Mrs. W.C. Jones showed most interesting plans drawn to scale which they explained briefly. Mrs. Taylor had an interesting painting showing her plan.

The High Point Garden Club held a most intersting meeting Feb 11, at the home of Mrs. J. I. Cox with twenty-eight members and two visitors present.

The minister of the previous meeting were ordered recorded to read.

The treasurer reported $17.30 on hand after paying the luncheon bills.

After a discussion of plans for a joint meeting of the garden club of High Point, the chair appointed Mrs. A. S. Caldwell on the committee as "representative from our club.

The Com. for making arrangement for the Regional Flowers Show is composed of the following:

Mrs. H.A. Millis, Mid week Garden Club chrm.

Mrs. V. A. L. Idol H.P Garden Club

Mrs. R. H. Sechrest, Burbank Garden Club

Mrs. W. T Saunders, Goodwill Garden Club

The Club decided to bring the Farr Memorial Traveling Library established by the American Iris society to High Point for a month, the only expense involved being the express charger.

A very appreciative letter from Mrs. Walker was read and followed by a discussion of Garden Gossip, of which she is editor. The membership seemed to favor subscription of this magazine.

Mrs. C. F. Tomlinson was voted into associate member
