to have them taken care of.

I have deviced that I would like to work & live in Worcestor State Hospital. I would appreciate your reccomendation very much. I would also like to help out as a Volunteer for Muscular Dystrophy. I choose Worcestor because I would be getting help from Richard's family as well. And if at all possible I would like to work PART time for the Salvation Army. I will still have my social life, buts in my care being for to long a time brings on temptation. I would like to write a letter to Worcestor State concernning work there. Do you think it is advisable & how should I go about it???

I would like you to write to my mother. Her name is

Her telephone no. is 20-7-7881. I sincerely hope that you can get a answer from her. My love letter to her was 6-29-66, but I d[?] think I'll receive an answer from her. I ddi not tell her of my plans because I've told her things before & didn't live up to them. This time I'll let action speak for itself & hope for the best. I do not like D[?} & I take a vasual drink now & then but I don't get drunk. I prefer beer than anything else.

Well so long for now. Will write again when I hear

THE MENTOR

Published for and by the Inmates at the Massachusetts State Prison Charlestown 29, Mass.

Dr. Mirian Van Waters Supertintendant Women's Reformatory Sharborn, Massachusetts

Dear Ma'am:

I am sending under separate covers the fall edition of The Mentor. AS yet, the Mentor is not ready for mailing for the folding and booking is yet to be done. When is is completed, we will send sufficient copies to the Harmony Staff.

We received the most recent copy of teh Harmony News and msut admit that Mae's reasoning is sound. Of course, if is needed only our decision to print up the girl's magazine, we would be glad to assist. But as I said during the interview, I don't believe it could be accomplished. Notwitstnading, we could very easiy draw and print a Thanksgiving Cover for them, because we have cover stock that we cannot use. The reason is because the stock is different colors. All we would need to know is how many covers you would need and the size. Tell mae thanks for the new name.

Now for the real reason for writing. Our next issue will come out just before Christmas (winter Issue) and naturally we need material. It is our intentiont o have Commisioner Lurie and the Warden write Christmas messages to the Men. We also, woudl like to have you write an article for the Mentor. WE are intersted in knowingmore about the Friends of Framingham. That is, their views and opinions regarding penology, etc. If we may, we would also like to ask you to write a Christmas Message to the men. Perhaps it seems a little early for such a request, but behieve me , it isn't.

Trusting that I will hear from you soon, I am,

Respectfully yours,

Dr. Mirian Van Waters Box 99 Reformaory Framingham, Massachusetts

Dear Dr. Van Waters :-

In August, I addressed a letter to you inquiring whtether you would care to write. Christmas mssage to the men, etc., as the Mentor staff beleived that the men would enjoy being remmebered at Christmas time by you and others.

Therefore, I find it necessary to inquire again if it could be possible to obtain one from you because preparations must be taken before it can be published, e.g.c it may need to be illustrated,t eh linotype operator must set the type around the illustration or photograph, if we use one; then the majeup must be done. But before all this can take plast I msut have a dummy of the material I am going to use. What I am saying is that tiem might run out on me as I go to press in November if I expect ot mail it two or three weeks before Christmas.

I hoep that I'm nto taking any liberties; I don't mean to. Trust that I'll hear from you, accordingly, I am,

Respectfully yours, [Signature] Michael F. Coggins, Jr. Editor of THE MENTOR
