(2) It is a great disparagement to Christ that
we should so neglect him & his comunion and
prefer other things before him. We do in ef-
fect say yt there are better & more satisfy-
ing delights to be had elsewhere then what
the Lord proposes to us, & sô yt X dyed in vain.
(3) It must needs be very grievous to ye Spi-
rit of Christ yt himselfe & his grace & comu-
nion should be so undervalued by us as yt
we take better content elsewhere then with
him.
(4) We hereby make our case most miserable
& laementable. Fill our teeth with gravell
in stead of food. Estrange God from our souls
& our souls from God. Wound our consciences
& fill them with guilt, harden our hearts,
make ordinances to be unprofitable, ineffec-
tual & useles to us. Are unfit for service to
God, & are afraid of death & sufferings, &
we make work for bitter repentance after-
ward. Ps. 81. 11, 12.
3. Use. Learn what an uncomely thing it is for the
Lords people to want an appetite when Christ so
graciously invites them to come & feed largely
of his daintyes. This proceeds from their feeding
on clay, these worldly delights, wherewith yy
have surfetted themselves & so lost their ap-
petite to Christs provision. Christians have rea-
son to bewail it yt yy have been so often called
into Christs presence, & yet have evercome
with so little hunger & thirst after him & fed
so lightly on him.
Hence (1) we our poor & lean
& even hunger, starved under such rich provision.
(2) We discredit our Lords house & provision, when o-
thers observe yt those yt dwell in ye Lords house make
such a poor living on't.
