& your Feet shod with the preparation of
the Gospel of Peace; above all, take the Shield
of Faith; wherewith ye shall be able to
quench all the fiery Darts of the wicked. And
being thus armed be of good Courage, be valiant,
& play the Men for our People, and for the Cities
of our God; and we need not fear what Men
can do unto us. Wherefore consider

III. How the great G is to be relied on for success,
or the Manner of leaving the Issue, & Event with God.
Let the Lord do that wh seemeth him good.
The Success of all our Endeavours depend on
God, we must ergo look to him as the Supreme
Governor of all things, that he would direct
our Way for us, maintain our righteous Cause,
& not give up his Heritage to Reproach.

I. Then see that there be nothing wanting in us,
Whatever the Success or Event may be.
Joab, that Valiant General at the Head of the
Army of Israel, dd every thing according
to the best Rules of Wisdom & good Policy
for the Defence of Israel; & being beset be
fore & behind by theAmmonites & Syrians,
and the whole scene presented Terror on all
Sides, yet he knew there was no Hope that God
would save & deliver them from their Hands,
but in the Way of Means, and the Case now
called for Bravery; and Animating himself
& his Army to play the Men, to do the utmost
yy were capable of for their Defence, & in this
Manner trust in God, & look to him for success.
