On a journey — which I made last Summer in the northern
Parts of Norway — for the purpose of extending my Know-
-ledge in Natural History and to enrich a collection of
Birds I possess — I came to Drontheim : where in
the Cabinet of the Literary Society, I saw a Number of
Birds from North America; which you had sent there,
to receive in exchange some European Curiosities.

The President of this Society had the goodness
of giving me your address, which I now make use of,
in hopes that it might perhaps be agreeable to you, to
establish with me a similar Connexion. As we
can send the Articles for Exchange over Hamburg;
there will not be much Difficulty & expence attending it.

My Cabinet consists of Birds only and I therefore
should beg you to send me of them, in return for which
I could send you minerals of Germany & European Birds.

Of American Birds — I have none, & you therefore
need not be particular in your choice. Of Birds
which (according to Latham) inhabit both Europe
& Amerika — I have the following. viz —

of European Birds — I could send you a great
Number & variety. & should have sent you some now,
if I had known that it would have been agreeable
to you, you will be pleased to acquaint me with
