Mr. Joshua Saunders Boston Novr. 4th 1765
Sir
I Recd. your favr. of 25th Utto. & observe what
you say of the Note assign'd over to me by Messrs. Harts, do assure I had
no thought of keeping it a secret, nor any end to answer by it, the whole
being transacted by Mr. Martin Howard & the Note lodg'd with him at
Newport, I made no doubt but you knew of the assignment, I acknowledge I
was remiss in not aquainting you with it sooner & am sorry you should be
a sufferer by it, I knew nothing of Mr. Stevens being concern'd till about the
time I first mention'd it to you, I a little wonder you should pay anything
towards a negotiable Note without seeing it Indors'd especially when you
could not be ignorant of those Gentlemen's havg. demands on them my last
inform'd you the sloop you purchas'd of them was my property & but reasonable
I should receive the pay for her, which am persuaded you will make me as
soon as you can, mean time I am Your Humble Servant

P Post

Dear Sir Boston Novr. 6th 1765
This will be handed you by Mr. Eliphalet Fitch who is in partner-
ship with his Brother Mr. Joseph Fitch in a House at Kingston in the
Island of Jamaica which has been Establishd some years & has maintaind
a general good reputation, should you have occasion of their assis-
tance to transact any Business doubt their rendering satisfaction, have only
to add that any Civilities to this Gentleman will be esteemd as done to
Mr. Metcalf Bowler Your huml. Servt.

P Mr. E. Fitch

Dear Sir Boston Novr. 6th 1765
I duly recd. your favr. of 24th Utto. & 4th Currtt. am much oblig'd for the
trouble you have given yourself about Messrs. Saunders & Stevens's Note, when
I wrote you I was apprehensive from the manner of their refusing paymt.
something esential might have been omitted in the draft or indorsement
of it, so as to render my property to it precarious. the reverse whereof being
the case has taken away all cause of uneasiness. I acknowledge a re-
missness (but witout design) in not advising Mr. Saunders when I
recd. the note. I knew nothing of Mr. Stevens's being joynd wth.
him till a few days before it became due, indeed as the whole affair
was transacted by Mr. Howard & the note lodg'd with him, had no suspicion
they were ignorant of its being assignd over to me, am very sorry my good
friend Mr. Saunders, or Mr. Stevens should be a sufferer by that means. I had no
thoughts

P Mr. E. Fitch
