Boston Octob.r 7th 1765
Mr William Purriance
I rec'd your favrs. of 29th July last with a Letter to Capt Hanjon
open & Sheppards protest & Capt Welch who arrivd here 28th Augt & delivered thevery
small Quantity of 45 [Hthats?] 10 Teirces & Ullage of Molasses in pretty good order which
sold at 1/22/5 & yall.o Lawful money. notice your proceedings in negotiating the Busi-
ness of Brigg Samuel & Cargo & can't say but am still of the opinion you committed
a great error in ordering Capt Welch to break bulk before the entry of his Cargo
all his misfortunes must be ascreb'd to that incautious step tho indeed it was a ma-
nifest weakness in the Captain & mate to Submit to the Comptroters' administering
an Oath [bc?] to them on Board the Vessel as they were not nor in my opinion have
been Compelld to it. hope youl succeed in the Suit you propose communicatin for the
recovery of the 67 [Hthds?] [bc?] and if recoverd doubt not you will remit me the meat
proceeds thereof for acco.tt Mr John Hanson. am heartly sorry for Mr Hanson
Loss as no man bears a more amiable Charactor what is due for the Hire of the
Brigg must be paid & by the advice & direction of Mr Peter R Levingston will be
referd to the deciscion of Merchants of Charactor here. I am
Your humb'e Servant.
