Boston May 16th. 1765

Mr. William Hawxhurst

Sir

I duly recd. your favr. of 9th. Instt. advising of [Mr.]
Capt. Wrights intending a Voyage to this place by whom you propose Shipping
10 or 12 Tons of Anchors to my adress. desiring first to know my lowest terms
for negotiating Sales & returns, 6 {percent} is the lowest I have ever done Business
for New York (Sales & returns) when times were the best, money plenty &
not the forth part of the trouble in transacting Business as now, I will still
do it for the Same & cant afford it under, & in case I purchase & remit you
Goods I charge a Commission of 5 {percent} am about Contracting to Supply
a Refinery with Pigg Iron & to dispose of all the Iron it produces, amongst
which I am to have a Constant supply of Anchors which may
interfere with yours, if this falls thro' [you] I will duly advise you thereof.
small Anchors now the Fishermen are equipt are but a dull article
& would not command Cash at 6d {percent}, a parcell to be lodgd here for an
Early Spring market might answer & Command Cash down or a
few months if its at a reasonable rate, should you sent the parcell you propose
my adress you may depend on my doing the best with them I can,
mean time I am

Dear Sir

I duly rec.d your fav.r per Metcalf Bowler Esq.r with the amount
of 463 Dollars in Gold [etc], in parts of Cap.t Snells note, observe you are in
possession of Mr. Joshua Saunders's Note for 1400 Dollars and that you
have sued Isaacks but expect to have no difficulty with him, all which
is very agreeable, hope ere long youl be as lucky with Mr. Mumford and
Clark, your friend Mr. Otis is re Elected but not without a struggle,
we hope to see you and your daughter here soon. meantime I am with
great Esteem
