Papa only got $35 and
$40 a month for years
at janitor work in the
city. Mama pleaded with
him to get something
better. He said he would,
but never did, and we
paid rent and lived
on that and bought
our Wright St. place
on that. We would
have been in the
poor house years ago
if it hadn't been for
Mama's managing, but
Papa don't think so.

My friend Allie's mother
died our here of
cancer and is to be buried
today. Services at the
church and I am to
help sing, but I'm not
in very good shape.
