J. J. NUNNALLY,
CITY AUDITOR, FORT WORTH

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, Oct 3rd, 1907.

Hon Geo Mulkey,
Commissioner of Fire and Police.

Dear Sir:-

After mature consideration, I take the liberty of asking
you to strengthen the mounted police squad by an addition of
four men, thus enabling the department to cope with the influx
of prowlers and thieves who, during the winter months, infest
our residence district . In making this request of you I beg to
call your attention to the fact that at the close of the past
winter season our mounted force was reduced four men, leaving
the force adequate to cope with the summer demands but with the
approach of winter with its ever tide of criminals and tramps,
together with the material increase of our residence population,
makes it almost imperitive that we restore our mounted force
to its original size and strength, that of twelve mounted officers,
thus giving the citizenship the protection which they justly
demand of us.

I would also ask for one special officer whose duty it
will be to meet all incoming passenger trains and attend the
departure of same, in a manner protecting the traveling public
against the ever ready "booster" and thief who infest these
places reaping rich rewards from the unsuspecting public who
fall easy victims to the snares set for them.

Trusting you will give this your favorable consideration,
I am,

Yours very truly,
J. H. Maddox
Chief of Police
