Fort Worth, Tex. Feb. 18th, 1907.

TO THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Fort Worth.

Gentlemen:

In view of the fact that the curbing around City Hall has to be put in before the streets on the south and west can be paved under the contract recently awarded by you. After consulting some members of the City Council I made the contract (verbal) with Mr. Brookshire to put in that curbing at the same price, according to the specifications and on the same terms as he put in the curbing around the school buildings.

I also submit for your consideration the matter of the sidewalks around the City Hall and in this connection will state that Mr. Brookshire proposed to do this work also according to the same specifications price and terms as he put in the walks around the public school buildings. These specifications were made by the City Engineer. The width of the walks around the City Hall ought to be determined by your body but in this connection I wish to suggest that it is my opinion that the cement ought to cover practically all of the sidewalk. As, Mr. Brookshire will soon be through with the curbing and no doubt would like to go on with the entire work while his force is here, I suggest, therefore that we determine at once the width of the sidewalks and let him have the contract.

Respectfully, W. D. Harris Mayor.

W. E. BIDEKER CHIEF

STANDIFER FERGUSON ASS'T CHIEF

Telephone No. 26

Fort Worth Fire Department

OFFICE AT HEADQUARTERS STATION

Fort Worth, Texas, Feb-18-1907. 190 _____

Honorable Mayor and City Council;

Gentlemen;-

Some time since the Chief of the Fire Department informed me that he received eighty per cent of the fire alarms over the Telephones, and that the department then transmitted the closest Fire Alarm Box to the fire, and, that inasmuch as the public had adopted this method of notifying the department of fires, he thought the Telephone System of such importance that it should be improved to meet the demands, and asked my consent to take up with the South-Western Telephone Co. the propisition of installing a Private Branch Exchange, in Central Fire Station, to be operated by the Fire Department.

As I understand it, by installing this Exchange, and keeping an operator there continually, they can get direct communication with each Fire Station, without going Central Telephone Station, and can get all the Stations at one time, which will enable them to give a more efficient service.

Hereto attached is a communication from Hon J. F. Henderson, Sup't of the South-Western Telephone Co. on the subject, and I am informed by the Chief of the Fire Department that this is what in his judgement is needed.
