Hon Mayor & Bd of Aldermen.
Gentlemen.
We your undesigned petitioners, who are laborers, in the street department of the city would respectfully state that they we are receiving $1.50 per day, + the same amount has been paid for 20 years. The high price of subsistence house vents, and wet days make it impossible for us to live, and be honest on such wages. Believing you gentlemen are endowed with human sympathy - and are have hearts not made of stone, we ask you to increase our wages to $2.00 per day, and you will be rewarded with the prayers of your living friends, and God hereafter_
