As my duties in charge of my
work around the depot demand the
authority of an officer and very often
compelled to let trespasser &c. [have?]
their way on account of not being
rested with the proper authority.

I would consider it a great favor
indeed if you can consistently do so
to appoint me as special officer
without pay which will allow me
to protext the interest entrusted in
to my core.
