Dear Sir,

The Women's
Christian Temperance Union earnestly de-
sire your consideration of the following
matter and beg that you present
it before the council. Last summer
we undertook having water barrels
upon the streets, that the passer
by might quench his thirst in-
stead of being subjected to the
temptation of the open saloons.
This was too great an undertak-
ing for our limited resources,
although successfully carried out
and we are [lialts?] to see the
good work begun, discontinued,
so now we come to you and beg
that the city will carry on the
good work. We have four barrels
