Ft. Worth, Texas. July 21st 1899.

Hon. The Mayor & City Council,

Gentlemen:-

We your Committee on Streets, Alleys and
Sidewalks, having for many months investigated the matter of a
suitable material for street repairs, beg leave to submit the follow-
ing:-

We find that both the gravel and local lime rock heretofore
used in construction of, and repairs to our Macadam Streets, are
too soft to withstand the wear of the continually increasing traffic.

In our endeavor to find a better material, we have caused the
City Engineer to make exhaustive tests' on all the different stones
within reasonable reach of Fort Worth.

Tests' show that the Granbury, Dublin, and Jacksboro stones
are all of good wearing quality.

A four hour rattler test on these stones, gave the following
losses in weight:

Granbury 11%
Dublin 10%
Jacksboro 4%

We have recieved bids on these stones as follows: (rock to
crushed to sizes ranging from 1/2" diameter to 2 1/2" diameter,
screened and delivered f.o.b. care Fort Worth).

P.[M.c?] Nish ( Jacksboro) 1.30 per Cubic Yard.
Risley Bros.( " " " ) 1.45 1/2 do.
Angus McLeod( " " ) 1.42 1/2 do.
Dublin Quarry (Dublin) 1.50 do.

These bids are based on a delivery of 5000 Cubic yards, during the
period between October 1st 1899, and October 1st 1900, at such
rate as the city may demand.
