The recipes were collected by Mrs M H Turnbull, who appears to have been in India in the 1820s, and later at Chobham Place, Surrey, and at Abingdon, Berks. A number of items relate to curry and chutney, and to the preservation of articles from white ants.

they are sown must be kept in a warm & sheltered situation, & carefully protected from hot sun shine. Where the seeds are very small, they should not be above a fifth or a fourth of an inch deep in the ground. & the soil should be lighter i.e. have a greater proportion of sand. This tree prefers very dry rocky spots & requires protection while young in england. They should be put when planted, under a glass frame or in a Conservatory.

Elton Cake Puddings Take the weight of three eggs in butter, sugar, and flour and mix them well together Then beat up well four eggs add all together & when mixed quite smooth put into cups & bake for about an hour _
