A plaister to all swellings that comethe
of melancolye or hott causes witheowt breakinge the skinne or
hurtinge anye vaine or sinnewe
Take halfe a pounde of oyle olyfe the older the better:
demi pounde of waxe and a quarter of a pounde of ceruse
halfe a quarter of a pounde of white leade finelye driven into
pouder shredd the waxe smalle and boyle them altogeather
in a brassen skillett or panne over an easie fier untill itt bee as
blacke as pitche and ever sturr itt withe abrode slice for
burninge to the panne and for to proove if itt bee boyled.
enoughe dipp therein a linnen clothe and if itt be perfectlie
blacke itt is boyled enoughe: or els nott: Then if you will
ocupie of itt dippe therein a linnen clothe and holde itt over
the panne as longe as itt will dripp: and when itt is well
and will dropp no more holde itt aside untill itt be colde
and then laie itt uppon a boorde and so prepare as manie
clothes as you will.
The, use of them when yow y will use annie of them: holde
itt before the fier that itt bee loose and lithye: then laye itt uppon
a boorde and strike itt smothe withe youre thombe: and then lay
the smoothe side unto the swellinge of the legg and so as manie
as shall neede: and role them unto the lege faste and so lett
them lye by the space of xii houres: then remove them againe:
and if there stande anie water one these clothes clense them withe
a clothe and holde the contrarie side unto the fyer when you
will occupie itt againe to make itt softe then strike itt smoothe
againe and laie itt two as yow did: beefore and so yow maye use
one clothe a fortenighte continuallie chaunginge sides
at everie dressinge.
