ffor the Burning with Gunpowder
or Scaldinge

A hanfull of growne sell a dozen heades of houselick stampe and strayne
them by them selues then take half a pinte of new shipps donge as much
goose donge and stamp them together till it be all one, then put it into
the morter with the said Ioyse of hearbes and woorke it togeather then
put it on the fier with a pottell of Barrowes grease and lett it Boyle
Continually stiringe it for feare of Burninge and when it is boyled
strayne it throwe a Canvas bagg and sett it in an earthen pott and
soe keepe it for your vse to take out the fier you must take of the
fattest bacon you can gett and cutt it in thyn slices and lay it to
the sore for three Dressings

Take fenell steepe it in your Drinke and soe use to Drinke thereof
morninges fasting and at other tymes when you thinke good allsoe drinke
ffenell water distilled with your wyne take a tost of wheate leavened
bread and toste it leysurly and when it is well tosted strike both
the sides well with pewer honny then breake it in the middest and put
into beare and when it is well sokened drinke the drinke and eate the
tost; Allsoe take the like leavened bread and spreade it with puer honny
then have Ready the Blossoms of Rosemary kleane picked from the greene
of the Rosmary and strew the blossomes very thick upon the hunny and
Breade and soe eate it fastinge for a fortnight together

A very good medicine for the Plauge

First when you find your sealfe ill goe presently to bed
and vsse forthwith the Cowrse followinge: Take thre spoonfulls
of fayer water, as much of white wine vineger, one
sponefull of good Iane Treacle and a dryed Settwell
Roote as bigg as ones thumbe grated mingle all those
together & drinke it luke warme & sweate after it
in your bed six or Seaven howers, if an hower after
the takinge it you doe not Cast at all, you take some
possett drinke made with smale ale luke warme: but
in no wise drinke more Cowld, And after the first dau
drawght you may drinke more warme as then it canbe
or you shall like: Butt if you cast, then before yow drinke
any possett ale, drinke an other draught of the foresayd
medicine and if after that you Caste take an other &
doe so vntill you leaue Castinge, and after you haue done
then an hower & a halfe after drinke possett ale as before.

of Sage, of Rue, of each one handfull vntill one pinte be

wasted, then streyne it & putt it over the fyer agayne, then
putt therin a peniworth of longe pepper, halfe an vnce of
Ginger, a quarter of an vnce of nuttmeggs all beaten together,
then lett it boyle a little and putt thervnto fower peniworth
of metridate, tooe peniworth of Treacle, a quarter of a
pinte of Aquavitae, sturr them well together & keape this
as liffe aboue all worldly treasure. Take it always warme
both morninges & eveninges if you be alredy deceased, if
not but once a day is sufficient Trust to this for certayne
that in all the plauge time ther was no man, woman or childe
that this drinke deceaued if the harte were not Cleane
mortifyed with the same discease before. This is not only
good for the Common plauge but also for the plauge which is
called the sicknes of the Smale pox, the meazells, Surfeyts
& divers other kind of deceases.

An excelent playster to Cuer the Sciatica

Take a toste of Cleane Rye bread, stick it full of good
cloves & toste it by the fyer as you would doe any other toste
you lay the toste in a whott pewter dishe & spread it over
with venice Treacle as you would spread it with butter
you putt the toste into an old linnen Clothe & make it
whott & so applye it to the parte greaved.

A very good Receyt to Cuer madnes
or any other Infirmitiyes

Take Sceenae of Alexandrina fower vnces, of Sarsaperilla
five vnces, of licoras tooe vnces, & tooe drammes of Anyseeds
tooe vnces of Raysons of the Sonne (the stones taken out) one
pound of Epithamum of duble Camomill flowers, of stecados,
of Hermadactalus, of each halfe an vnce, lett the sarsaperilla
licoras, & anyseed be beaten & putt severally by them sealves
Then take six quartes of white wine & putt all these toe
ther (except the licoras, anyseed and flowers of camomill) into
the wine & stoppe the vessell closse & so lett them steepe all
night you take a greate kettell & fill it with water &
into that water putt the vessell wherin the wine & Simples
ar, it beinge stopped very Closse when the water boyles, lett
it so boyle one hower & a halfe, then putt in your other
thinges before reserved & so lett it boyle one hower & a halfe
more, Then take it of & streyne it through an indiferent
fine Cloth & putt that liquor by it sealfe, then to the substance
remayninge in the streyner putt six quartes of good beare or
