DEAR MEMBER:

After a long vacation, which I hope has been pleasant for each of you, it is imperative that our Club work take an important place in our daily lives. The Executive Board has been much concerned about the poor attendance at the business meetings of the Club and in order to make them more interesting has decided to try the plan of combining the business and luncheon meetings, having the business-program luncheon on the second Thursday of each month instead of the fourth Thursday and a bridge luncheon on the fourth Thursday. We hope this plan will have the approval of the members of the Club and that we may have a large attendance at each meeting. You cannot know what your Club is doing unless you attend meetings and make yourself a vital part of the Club work.

At the first business-luncheon meeting on September 11th, Dr. W. H. Rogers will outline the important part our Club can play in connection with defense. As many as possible please come and pledge your full support in our endeavor to give vital aid to our country. Please read the more detailed notice that follows.

At this meeting we are also very fortunate in having a noted lecturer from the Dale Mabry Air Base, Mr. Malcolm Longsdon. His subject will look to the future we all hope for-"World Without War."

We are counting on the help of each of you to make the Fall session of our Club one to be proud of.

Sincerely, Your President

Defense Stamps and Bonds

A meeting of representatives of the various women's organizations of the city, Mr. M. N. Yancey, Chairman, and Mrs. J. G. Kellum, Chairman of Women's Division, of Leon County Defense Council, was held on August 21st. The object of this meeting was to organize the women of Tallahassee for effective work on the sale of stamps and bonds. Each representative was asked to try to report 100% cooperation of her Club, and that means participation by each member at least to the extent of the purchase of one 10c defense stamp. Our Club wants to be able to make this report at an early date, and then continue to make the same sort of report each month; that is, that each member has made a purchase, even though small, of come of these gilt-edged securities each month. This is not asking you to make a contribution, but to save for the future, and in doing so to help finance the defense program of our country. Remember that $18.75 cond per month purchased now will give you an income of $25.00 per month ten years from now. We quote from the message of our National President, Mrs. Whitehurst in the August issue of GFWC: "Nothing should interfere with the defense of this great country of ours. If the women do their part America will be safe. Work for strong national defense-but pray for peace."

At the request of the State Federation a Chairman of National Defense has been appointed. Mrs. D. E. Williams has kindly consented to accept this important post. She will give untiring effort. Let every member of the Club volunteer to assist her!
