About six weeks since I saw your sister Florence for a few moments at the Hotel. I accidentally met her I was at the Hotel [seeking?] [Geo: ?] [illegible] when [passing?] out I recognized Mrs [Turner?]] who wasstanding at the front door with a lady whom she said is [Florence?]. I should not have recognized her. I have never seen her since your messages- it is not to be supposed I I should. She was [not?] [entering?] [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] & [now?] [a?] [illegible] with prospect of [illegible] soon. She is just now as pretty as she was. I [have seen?] [Mrs. Turner?] several times but not as often as I should have done in [illegible] times. [illegible] [illegible] this is in [illegible] chaos [illegible] argue [illegible] upside down [illegible] as if all [illegible] was [illegible]. my darling of a [illegible] [took?] [french?] [illegible] for [4 weeks?] & scampered off to the [illegible] with the 11th [Michigan?] at the time of the [capture?] of [Lake?] Clay who [illegible[] [illegible] of [illegible] [eye?] and a [portion?] of his [illegible] taken off _ he has paid dearly for his folly and of lack of [illegible] [Sugar?] Clay has been exceedingly ill, with inflammation of stomach and bowels, is now uon the mend. Steele. Henry is not strong he is growing so fast - I expect he is as tall as Elisha is & is still growing Mary & [illegible] have [been?] over & [Georgie?] [slept?] with [mother?] the [night?] I was her [familiar?] [friendly?] nurse & companion whilst she was over - she is looking remarkable [pretty?] this spring & grown so much - she is as saucey as needs be. I wish you had her [illegible] [take?] [instead?] of the photograph [Mary?] sends you - it is much the [best?] - we had geatl difficulty in getting her to stand - she was perfectly contented without her Mother & very [illegible] [illegible] that I would not [go back?][ with her [My?] [horse?] is [illegible][ & has been ever since February - stuck a nail in his foot - as soon as he is well I shall ride over for a day or two Sister [illegible] & Caroline both say they will accompany me - but I [called upon?] neither I am so anxious to hear from [Mary Jane?] I am so glad [Brutus?] is with her her negroes are [creating?] trouble as the negroes through the whole state are they will hope [to?][ [put?][ women & children in the fileds - I see they are in the free state - I [illegible] [illegible] [may?] bless Gen [illegible] [illegible][ & Gen Sherman & bring the rebels to their [illegible] - [illegible] not [like?] you I want peace but not [pillegible] of [territory?] should I give up & [illegible] if they will not lay down arms & come back to thier allegiances I take great comfort from the [illegible] [illegible] i[illegible] of the rebels - [rather?][ they are [still?] in the ascendancy they are so triumphant so arrogant so [overbearing?] & [illegible].
