Remarks on board Sunday the 6th of October. These 24 hours Commences with fres wind and heavy squals. All hand employed in scraping bone and bunching it up. The blubber ?tries very free. 102 Days out.

Remarks on board Monday the 7th. These 24 hours Commences with moderate breeze and a heavy sea. At 1 made sail and at 6 took in sail and at 2 we finished trying down. At 5 we called all hands and broke out the fore hatch and stowed down the oil. The weather is rather squally.

Remarks on board Tuesday the 8th. These 24 hours Commences with light winds and Calms Clear and pleasant. We scraped the decks and washed them. The watch employed in making brooms

Remarks on board Wednesday the 9th. These 24 hours Commences with light winds and Calms Clear and pleasant. Shortly after sunset we saw a large ?serm [sperm] whale about a quarter of a mile off. At 12 we saw another one. AM at 11 we saw a ripple. Mr Fordham lowered his boat, went to see what it was but he soon returned and did not see any thing. The man aloft saw

a spout and Mr. Jones lowered his boat went that way and we went to. We saw a school of mackeral and did supposed it to be the whale and then gave up the chase and started for the ship and we very soon saw that the Capt was off and shortly saw the whale and Mr. Jones boat got fast and then we got first and he was real ?limber whale and after a while we killed him and got him along side. 105 Days out
