double-reefed topsails courses and jib. steering
NE by N. thick weather and rainy. Mid
part thick weather. took in jib and mainsail.
at 5 PM severe thunder and lightning with
hail and rain. Latter part blowing
a gale from NNW. laying too under
clostreefed maintopsail and foretopmast
staysail. heading NE. verry squally.

Sunday Jan 29t

First part blowing a gale from NNW.
laying by the wind heading NE. at 3 AM
wind hauled to NW. kept ship NE by N.
from 7 to 89 AM severe thunder and lightning
with hail and rain by the wholesail, and
heavy squals of wind. set and took the foresail
3 times from 10 AM to 8 PM. verry heavy squals
from WNW and clostreefed mainstopsail
and foresail. steering NE by N. shiping huge
quntites of water. sent down main
royal yard. Latter part blowing a heavy
gale and heavier in squals varying from W
to NW. laying too under main spencer on
Larboard tack. so ends in Latt 45"56 S Long 39"30 W.

Monday Jan 30th

First part blowing a heavy gale from Westward. laying
too under main spencer. at 7 AM moderated some. set
clostreefed main topsail and foresail, and kept ship
NE. a verry heavy sea. the decks full of water. Mid
part much the same. Latter part rather more
moderate. so ends in
Latt 44"12 S Long 38"40 W.
