June 23/29 Sunday. On the beach.

Con wanted Golf. I didn't—he gets his sun baths every day—I wanted it—& Pete got home at 5 in the a.m.— & felt lazy enough to laze with me—so here we are Tuffy & all—

Darling—

Wonder where on earth this will find you. It is odd enough to think of you being in London—& Hamburg—(I've never seen Holland) but for you to be in ports unknown to me from Hamburg or wandering lonely like—I can hardly picture it—

Your letter from London gave me a bit of reality— actuality—and you sounded so arrived—& so happy—it did my heart good—Your letting down on the boat was what you apparently needed & was very sane.

Received your boat letter—your passenger list— cable from London of course—London letter—& cable from Hamburg all gorgeous—your cable from Hamburg was fun to decipher one word came thru wrong eufre came eufke— we made that out but feared to use the address which came thru as Pension Prem —& we weren't sure enough of reaching you—Hence our decision to tell you we would regularly use Amer. Express Co.— for cable & mail unless & until you settle for a definite period.

I should like to see Evelyn again - meant really to send her som message of affection trhu you.

Bertie I never cared for - I don´t think I ever met his wife. I wonder wheter now I should be more intrested in Bertie. (He & father did not pull well- & I was predisposed to dislike him in my then childlike acceptance of father´s attitude - alas the constraint of my position & being so young - forced into [auntship] - where the boys would say "Uncle George" & then look askance at me & finally say Ida) - of course for those in New York the queer relationship settled into real frienship thru frequent contact & the strain of the situation was forgotten entirely.

Where is Charlie Guiterman - the oldest brother - did you hear of him?-

When do you expect to be in Paris - I´ll enclose Marie Gutman´s address - This is an old address, from letter dated 1925, only one I can find at present. (Mrs. Henri-) Marie Gutmann - 88, Rue de Montrouge Gentilly (Seine) Tel - Gobelius 55-33 -

At HomeJust found letter dated Nov. 1928 - Cannot desipher letter head address but looks like 3 Rue de l (...) Paris - Husbands address & where she makes business headquarters as "guide & shopper" Henru Gutmann, Niclas & Cie 105 Rue Lafayette. Paris

You remember that Marguerite died of Typhoid.

Bobby is married & I don´t know what Hugo is doing.

Edith Howenstine says I´d be sure I´d see her Brother in-law in Paris - & her sister has started for home. (This last week I believe)

Dr. Whitcomb says to be sure to see Dr. who´s name she gave you - (in Paris). She´s sure he´ll be very kind & quite interesting!

Kept your little card that came with the perfume you sent from Havana & as I reread it I wondered whether I mentioned getting it & how much I like the scent and enjoyed receiving it & being remembered in Havana. I love the perfume so I kept it.

You say you received no steamer letter from me - I-m cross as the devil about it. Spent one special delivery air mail to the a.w.a. in plenty of time - mailed before Con´s - to the steamer which you got - & I had made a little sachet for you as a goodbye bit that would stay with you for a while & enclosed it in the letter - I-m madder than mad about it, am hoping it will still reach you somehow - Have written a.w.a. about it.

Am glad the box with dress reached you - was it forwarded or did you get in in N.Y.

I thought as was the case that you would [get] so much at the steamer that I would send mine a bit before to the Hotel - So you could enjoy it & have it with you -

I feel in a ramblin mood - so mellow from air & Sunshine & full of food after supper I got for family tonite,

Did not go to Nest this week—felt lazy & beach hungry— Con & I went to beach yesterday—

We've had a few very hot usual June spell days— Spell broken to-day—

Uncle Irv & caravan on the way—Due Wednesday!— We're all excited—& so is he according to last letter to me.

Papers report heat in N.Y. terrific—

May left Friday—new regime started Thursday. Left May at Nest Wed to clean for two days for me—& to think herself out a bit away from people, telephone etc—She had been awfully nervous & scared. Came back a different person said she left all her nervousness behind—& felt quite different—she also made loquat jelly for me while there.

Aunt Roys birthday on the 15th. Had all here to dinner & then she treated to "The Four Little Devils" picture (very fair) afterward. I gave her toilet bag like yours—(Do you enjoy yours as much as I do mine?) Con gave her a sewing box for travelling Pete travelling shoe bag—(all my purchase of course)— She is 74 years old:

Grandpa is now back 150%—really miraculously recovered & so excited about Irv's arrival simply cannot remember which station he will arrive at—Has wired & written Irv several times asking time of arrival & Road he will take & questions us every day as to whether he can purely have all three cars—Ford—Lasalle & Grandpa's—on Wed!! He's a scream.

It must have been thrilling to go to Oxford—I'm anxious to hear about your trip there—

You apparently like England better than I did—It seemed mudy & gloomy to me—& of course visiting such an old brother-in-law & sister—did not help at 19 but I'm sure I should love it now—It was interesting to me even then.
