To make it such that it can be more or
less public property. I mean for you
& pa, Aunt Ray, etc: These
letters to you are more personal
and of private interest. I'm not
careful what I say in these—just
anything I feel or think about: They
are meant just for you, and I trust
your judgement about what you
let the rest in on.
I haven't been writing Ralph
very many of the details of my trip—
it takes too long to write to repeat
myself more than necessary—& besides
There are too many other things that
have filled up letter pages so far. So
I hope you will try to get my diary into
his hands before it gets stale. You needn't
worry about censoring any of it. I
hope the Grandfolks understand that
it's impossible to write more than I
have, and get the utmost out of traveling.
The diary is for them too. When you
do send it to Ralph, remind him
to send it back as I want it kept
to gether for myself—as a memoranda
