1945 31 Days MAY

3 Th Still very cold. Had quite an interesting current events lesson. Did history in free lessons. Spent all the afternoon drawing frog skeletons. Gordon came back from leave, gave me a lovely bracelet. He is staying with us for a week. Bill came to supper.

4 Fri Bill's day off. Snow shower in morning but quite nice afterwards. Had two history lessons taking notes. Scripture very boring. Played rounders in afternoon. Betty Boultred left school. Bill & Betty came in evening. Had practice & messed about.

5 Sat--Moon's last quarter 6.2 a.m. Fine in morning but rained all the afternoon & evening. Helped Mummy in morning. Did bathroom and errands. Gordon came with me. Had bath in afternoon. We all went to the pictures at Rex in evening. Memo Saw Rainbow Island. G held my hand all the time. It was wiyard.

Wed. Joe, Geo. Phang, Mr. Cottam came.

May 5th Month 1945

Quite nice da. Bill went into [ ] 6 Rogation Sun-5th after Easter Did not feel well in morning so stayed at home and did H.W. Went to S. School in afternoon Went to chapel in evening. Daddy & [ ] Betty Lionel and George came to supper. Went to bed early

Lovely Day. Surrender of all Germany [ ] 1 Mon-Bank Holiday (Scotland) Rogation Day Did not go to school as did not feel well. Went out hoeing in morning. Washed up & did some more hoeing in afternoon. Copied some notes up in evening. Went to bed quite early.

VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY

8 Tues-Rogation Day Felt ill all day. Drove the tractor for Daddy in morning & afternoon. Went with Daddy & Gordon to Mr Constables to tea. Afterwards went to service taken by Daddy & Gordon with Walter. G. told me he loved me. Lovely day.

Nie day. Drove the tractor for 9 Wed-Rogation Day Gordon all the morning and afternoon. We had a big party in evening. I enjoyed it very much. Judy Molly, Ted, the Padre, Joy, Tommy & Geo. Phang, Bill []

10 Th--Ascension Day

Didn't get up until fairly later. Betty is []about breakfast. Spooned []. Just us on lawn in afternoon. Did some sewing and had a practise in evening. Went to bed early.

11 Fri--New Moon 8.21 p.m.

Very hot day. Hoed strawberries in the morning. Went to Sutton and did some errands with Gordon in afternoon. Went to Sutton again in evening with Gordon [Colin.] Afterwards went for a walk in the orchard. Had first experience of L. Gorson went to stay at Humphreys.

12 Sat Very very hot day. Helped Mummy in the morning and cut the lawn. Had a bath in afternoon and did some homework. Bill Gordon & Judy came in afternoon. Had a bath. Did some more revision in evening.

Wed. of sick bay for evening) & Betty Maclean who stayed the night came. Party finished at 2am to wild [ ] when we took Bill home.

May 5th Month 1945

Hot rainy day 13 Sun-After Ascension S. School anniversary Went to all 3 services. The Padre preached in morning and evening and Colin Wood in the afternoon. I played for Primary hymns. Gordon took 2 services at Littleport. Bruce & George came to supper.

Cold windy day. Went back to school 14 Mon again. Had some fun in biology. Got french homework. Did some Biology in free lesson Didn't do much in art and didn't have music lesson as Miss Cooper sprained her ankle. Did homework in evening & went for a walk. Barney came in here from G.

A little warmer day. Colin went 15 Tues-Scottish Quarter Day back. Daddy and Gordon went to London. Daddy on Business. Did history in free lesson. Came home in afternoon and did homework also in evening. Bill, George & Leslie popped in evening.

Lovely day. Started planning a 16 Wed children's fringe in art. Had singing & rounders. Went out in d. hour. Didn't have a very long history lesson. Spent all evening trying to do a history essay. There were 11 at bible class. Bruce, the Padre, Len & his wife

17 Th Very hot day. Current event lesson not bad. Did history in all my free lessons. French very boring. Had some fun in biology in afternoon. Spent all the evening finishing a history essay. Gordon came to supper.

18 Fri- Moon's first quarter 10.12 p.m. Fairly nice day. Had two history lessons and scripture lessons were terrible. Messed about in free lesson and had a bit of a quarrel with Betty but made it up after dinner. Played rounders in afternoon. Started an English essay in evening and had a practise.

Quite a cold day. * 19 Sat Cleaned bathroom in morning and went to Sutton & did all the errands. Drove tractor and helped with painting of car in afternoon. Eric came to tea. Had some fun with Gordon & Eric in the evening. Judy came to supper. Didn't go to bed until 12 o'clock Lots of L from G.
