APRIL 1943

4 SUNDAY Did not go to chapel in morning as had to do homework. Went to Sunday school in afternoon and afterwards we all went to Little Thetford with the Constables. Had a nice time.

5 MONDAY Lovely day. Had gym, and we had swinging on the ropes. Very nice. Did not have games as something wrong with pitch. Did homework in evening

6 TUESDAY Fairly windy day. Went to practice of play in evening. Went by bus.

7 WEDNESDAY Did not cook tidied up cookery room. Did not have science as Miss Bourough absent. Did homework in evening and read book Worst gale for years

8 THURSDAY Etheldreda won house netball matches. Saw 2 plays and films on red cross. Went for ride with Daddy after school.

9 FRIDAY Played a good game in Maths. Miss Garnett left. Broke up at 2 o'clock. Went to practice of play in evening.

10 SATURDAY Helped mummy in morning. Cleaned car in afternoon. Quite a nice day. Read library in evening.

APRIL 1943

11 SUNDAY Went to Chapel in morning Went to Sunday School in afternoon afterwards went for a walk with Roger. Wrote to Sheila in evening.

12 MONDAY Quite a nice day. Mummy spring cleaned the lounge. We helped. Went to a practice of play in evening. Were there from 6.45-8.0

13 TUESDAY Lovely day Mummy spring cleaned her bedroom I did house work. Was in missionary play in evening. Raised £3.17s.

14 WEDNESDAY Janet and I spring cleaned our bedroom alone. I varnished the floor. Lovely day. Went to Sutton in evening. Got a lot of dandelions from Grandma's.

15 THURSDAY gorgeous afternoon . Varnished Mummy's bedroom in morning. In afternoon went to Ely. Got a new pair of shoes [block toes]

16 FRIDAY Mummy washed. Glorius day. I varnished hall floor. In afternoon we all went for a ride with Daddy in car. Went to Black Horse [Do]

17 SATURDAY Helped Mummy first and then went to Grandma's and helped spring clean bathroom. Had dinner there lovely day.

APRIL 1943

18 SUNDAY Went to Sunday School in morning and taught Primary. Had seven in my class. Went to Sunday School in afternoon. Did not go for walk as Roger was naughty. Read in the evening.

19 MONDAY Much colder. Damped all the clothes. I helped Mummy iron them. Mummy washed a few more things.

20 TUESDAY Nice day. I cleaned out the shelves in the airing cupboard. Then we spring cleaned the room. Frank did the ceiling.

21 WEDNESDAY Finished cleaning room I vanished the window sills and and helped to polish the floor.

22 THURSDAY *Helped Mummy in morning. In afternoon went to Ely with Daddy in the car.

23 FRIDAY Rained nearly all the morning and in the afternoon. Went to Coveney with Constables in evening had a lovely tea.

24 SATURDAY Helped Mummy in the morning. Washed up dinner on my own. Went to Sutton in afternoon and saw Audrey Darby's wedding. Went to see Grandma. It was her birthday.

APRIL-MAY 1943

25 SUNDAY Went to Sunday School in morning and then played for primary and taught them. Then, Kisbys came over for tea. Took Molly and Jill for a walk for in evening.

26 MONDAY Went to March for the day. Stayed with Mary & Margaret Bloy Daddy's Chiefs daughters. Went to the pictures in the afternoon and saw Asking for Trouble with Max Miller

27 TUESDAY Mummy had a big wash. Had the copper on. I ironed some of the clothes in the afternoon. Quite a nice day. rained.

28 WEDNESDAY Helped Mummy first and then at 9.30 am went out and set potatoes until 3. o'clock. Glorious day.

29 THURSDAY Helped Mummy in morning and went to Ely in afternoon. Got some material for summer's dress and went to dressmakers.

30 FRIDAY We all went out for the day with Daddy. Went to March had dinner at British restaurant. Then went to Wisbeach. Had tea there. Rained nearly all day. Mr Stewart called up.

MAY 1 SATURDAY Helped Mummy in morning and then went and did errands at Sutton. Had a bath and had my hair washed.

MAY 1943

2 SUNDAY Went to Sunday school and then played for primary and taught. Went to Sunday school in afternoon and then went for walk with Roger. Read in evening.

3 MONDAY Set potatoes in the morning. Removed back into my little bedroom again tidied the drawers. Did some sewing in evening.

4 TUESDAY Glorius day. Pegged out clothes in morning for Mummy. Went to Sutton in afternoon. Got ready for school in evening.

5 WEDNESDAY Started school again. A glorius day. Had new cookery mistress, Miss Turner. She doesn't seem too bad. Did gardening in science. Sewed in evening.

6 THURSDAY Did not go to school as felt sick. Read most of the day and did some sewing. Had a note from June.

7 FRIDAY Did not go to school again. Read, got the rabbits food, and did some sewing. Had a nice letter from Betty and a note from June.

8 SATURDAY Helped Mummy in the morning and did some cooking. Had a bath in afternoon. Did some typing in evening with Mr Constables type-writer which he lent us.
