A cloudy day and some rain. Not enough to stop work. The men suckered tobacco. Jimm went to Strait Stone to get the horses shod and flue joints. Got dinner. Nellie caned some tomatoes and gathered some grapes. We staid at home and I have no news. Lelia Ward went to a lodge meeting. Mabel got a letter from Edna to day. I got one from Kitty Reynols. I am glad to hear from any of them. I want to go for Edna tomorrow but the men is so busy I am afraid they wont go. Fraklin and Mabel has bad colds.
A good day and very hot. Ben is not able to work today. He brought me to Gretna and to Marvins this evening. Mabel come with us. Ben carried Nellies trunk home. Jim and Claud Fitz was comeing from the store. This evening Franklin went to Mr. Bookers. Booker commenced to cut tobacco today. Henry B. and John Ward helped him. Lee Brumfield is at Marvins. Tonight he is trying to find out a bout the election. Carrie was makeing some jellie this evening. She has peaches to can. She has nice snaps.
A day that they could [sic] most of the time. They cut tobacco. Filled a house and a little on another. It is raining tonight. Nellie washed some today. I got dinner and churned. Mabel and I went to barns and to the field where the men was at work. We caught a lot of worms. Looks like they will eat up the tobacco. Mr Bookers hands helped Jim and Ben this evening. The people are so busy that there is not passing a round like [commols to be read common?] Kate Harvey phoned that we could get tomatoes but the boys would not go for them.
A good day. No rain. Jim fired on his tobacco all day. Ben cut on his. He filled the barn and started fires under the tobacco. Lelia and I finished suckering Bens tobacco. I got the most of the dinner. Nellie dug some sweet potatoes this evening and gathered some peas. Edna worked in the field all day of her own chois. No body ask her to. Mabel has bin very good. Evylin made some candy. It was very good. Amont them they eat it be for supper and wanted more. Jim and Ben will stay at the barns tonight. I am sorry for them.
A beautiful day. Jim and Ben both staid at the barns all day. Nellie and I got dinner. Henry went with Joe Edmons to Cedar Forest. I went to George Blairs. Otho and Sallie was there. They [sic] Denia and Isla and Cordie and Sallie and I went to Earl Bennet. Otho drove the car for us. Mrs Anderson and Jennie come over there. I was glad to be with them. Earl was cureing tobacco for the first time on Sunday. I cant think it so much harm as somethings that they do. Edna and Mabel and Franklin come to Georges but there was no one at home. Otho brought me home.
A good day. Ben staid at the barn all day and will stay a part of night. All of the rest helped Norman cut tobacco. Nellie walked to the store this morning. I got dinner and churned. This evening I went to the tobacco patch. Lelia come two. We caught a lot of worms. I gathered some peas and went to Mrs Bookers. Mrs Kellie and Mrs Blain and Mrs Allen and two Miss Blains was there. I was glad to see them all. Ruth cut two mellons for us. They were fine. Edna and Franklin and Mabel went to the barnes this evening and staid all evening. Some one sold Willie Mayhew meat last night.
A good day. They moved and cut tobacco all day. I got dinner. Nellie sewed for the baby. This evening I went to Kate Harveys. Pearl Wiggington was there. They were making Virginia a dress. Thomas Thomson was hurt Sunday in an automobile and is in the hospitle. Ervin finished cutting tobacco today Mollie Reynols come to see us yesterday. I was glad that she come. Mr and Mrs Kent carried me as far as Renan. I was glad of the ride. I spent a pleasant night with Kate. I certainly do hate for to have to leave the place where she is. She is well fixed.
A good day. Ben was at the barn until twelve today. Jim staid this evening. Ben carried Edna and Franklin and Mabel and I to White Falls. I caught a few fish. Ben and the children went sloe hunting. They found a bout a half gallon. We had a good evening. I sliped on a rock and got my clothes wet. Did not hurt me much. Nellie ironed some for Evylin this evening. Evylin went to the barn and carried the baby. I got supper. Nellie milked.
A good day. The men moved some tobacco this morning. This evening Ben made some boards. Jim went to the saw mill. Evylin went to Gretna. Nellie lost all the milk tonight. The bucket handle come out. Edna went to Mr. Bookers and got milk for the baby. I went to George Blains to the missionary meeting. There wa[sic] several of the neighbors there. I was glad to see them. I don't belonge with them. Several of them were my grand children. I did enjoy my self fine. Mrs. Edmons brought me home. I was glad.
A good day. Jim and John Ward cut corn. Ben plowed for wheat. Mr Booker borrowed Prince to plow. Today the children went to school. Kate Harvey come this morning. She brought some butter beans. They were very nice. She went by Mr Bookers on her way home. I and Mabel went with her as far as Mr Bookers. Mrs Booker had bin to Renan. Drove the car her self. Nellie helped get dinner. We cooked butter beans and chicken and potatoes. I washed a little today. Guess Lelia will wash for me tomorrow. Ben is at work on his swing tonight.
A good day. Jim and John cut corn. Ben plowed. Mrs Carr and Mrs Powers and Mrs Hubbard come to see us today. Lawson Power brought them. We killed chickens for dinner. Ben sent for the children. Lawson went for them. I sent to Mr Bookers for sugar and butter. The baby is not so well tonight. Mrs Carr is with us tonight.
A good day. Cool and clear. Ben and John plowed. Jim set up corn until he finished. This evening Ben carried Mabel and I to White Falls. I fished. Did not catch any thing worth haveing. They would not bite much. Nellie ironed for her self and Evylin. I got dinner. Mrs Car churned. The children went to school. Lelia Ward went to Level Run today. John brought the clothes home this morning.
A cool cloudy day. We all staid at home until late this evening. Mrs Car was here at dinner time. Then Ben and three little children went with her home and right back. Henry went to Strait Stone to preaching. Lawson Emerson was here for supper. Henry and Lawson has gone to Strait Stone tonight. I would like to go some times but I can't. There is no time here to go unless it is some where it suits every one. Evylin is gone and Nellie is having a time with the baby. She must not cry a bit if they can help it.
A good day. There was some frost this morning. The men plowed some and stripped tobacco some. They are stripping tonight. We sent Mabel to tell Jim that dinner was ready. She went and tolde him and then went to John Wards. Her dady switched her a little. Made her very mad. I got Ben to work on the cup board to keep out mice. The children went to school. I done the cooking. Nellie has a job attending to Elaine. Mabel says her tooth hurts tonight. I am sorry for her.
A good day. Ben commenced to [planting] wheat this morning. Jim stripped tobacco. The children went to school. I got dinner. Nellie kept Elain and helped what she could. She got supper. I went to see Lottie Craddock. She has a nice baby. The have not named him yet. Mabel done fine while she was there. She did not like to walk. Mr John Tucker ask us to ride on his truck. I was glad of it. Ben carried us nearly there be fore he commenced worke after dinner. I rocked Mabel to sleep tonight. Today is John Brumfields birth day. The children has come up from the dining room.
A good day. Mr Booker has bin sewing wheat today. Jim and John Ward has bin striping tobacco. Ben went to the island for guano. Ben and Henry went to Strait Stone tonight. There is a mee[t]ing going on there. Mabel has a bad colde and says she is sick. I do hope she may be well soon. I have bin trying to knit some edging. Have most forgot how.
A good day. Ben and John Ward worked sewing wheat. Jim graded tobacco all day. They are all tying tonight. The children went to school.
Some one worked the road near the school house today. Ben did not help. I am sorry that he could not help. Henry has gone to church tonight. I washed a few things today. Nellie washed some for the baby. Three of our children has bad colds. Tonight I feel bad. Think I am taking colde. Lelia Ward come today.
A cloudy morning. Clear tonight. We need rain. Ben finished sowing wheat today. Jim and John worked on tobacco. Ben has gone to Strait Stone with Henry tonight. Henry looked for Stuart Owen to come by and take him. I got dinner. Nellie washed dishes for me. The baby has a bad colde. I hope it will soon be well. Marvin and McLau[gh?]lin come to Norman Bookers for a stove that Marvin left there. I wish I could of seen Marvin. Mabel and I went to the barn this evening.
A good day. The men moved some tobacco and stripped some and loaded the waggon. Ben and Henry has started to Gretna tonight at nine oclock. I wish them good luck. Nellie did not hear from Evylin today. I went to Ren Worsham this evening. I walked to the gray soil road. Willie Hutcherson let me ride to the road that leads in to Ren's house. Then I walked to the house. I has a pleasant evening. Ren brought me home. Ethel and the baby come with us. Ren come by Renan. I got a [bucket?] of coffee.
A good day. The men folks moved some tobacco this morning. This evening Jim graded some. They have gone to tie it up. Tonight Thomas Brumfield come to spend the night. He has gone with them to the barn. Ben carried all the children and I to Mr. Jessie Worsham's pond. I fished. None of the others did not try to catch any thing. I caught 9 fish. One a very nice one. Nellie staid at home with the little baby. She expects to go to Lynchburg in the morning and carrie the baby.
A cool windy day. Jim stripped tobacco. Ben made two trips to Renan school house. Thomas Brumfield has fixed up the gutters and commenced to paint the roof of the house. Ben had to help him get things so he could work. They was most of the day getting ready. The children went to school. Mabel and I got on fine. Today was my birth day. I am 77 years old. I am well as I could expect. My hip hurts when I try to walk. Mollie is all of the children that said any thing to day about it.
A very bad day. Rained and the wind blowed. The folks could not keep warm and strip tobacco. The children went to school. If [sic, she may have meant "but"] it was so bad Jo Edmons brought them home on his car. I was glad as the walking was so bad. Thomas Brumfield painted one side fo the roof and it nearly all washed off. It will be [tode?] a gain. I have staid in the house nearly all the time. Mrs. Car sent Mabel two peticoats. Mabel was very glad of them. I cut two shirts for Franklin today.
A colde day for Oct. There will be a freeze by morning I am a fraid. Thomas Brumfield went from here this morning on the waggon. The school children went with him. Jim and Ben has stripped some tobacco. They are tying tonight. I have cooked enought for them to eat and made Franklin two shirts. I am glad that they are made. Mabel has complained of the tooth ache today. I have finished mending Franklins coat and Edna sweater. I got a letter from Nellie today. Was glad to her from her and the baby.
A good day. The children went to school. Jo Edmons[?] brought Edna and Franklin home on his car. Kate Harvey is here tonight. I am glad that she come. The men folks has worked on their tobacco all day and til bed time tonight. Lelia Ward brought me a piece of beef today. We certainly did enjoy it. I made Mabel an apron today. She has bin as sweet as could [sic] most of the time today. She has a very bad colde. Henry brought a rooster from Kates last evening. I am glad of him.
A cloudy colde day. Ben went for Thomas Brumfield. He painted the roof of the house. Ben helped him some. Ben carried Thomas to Gretna this evening. We paid 12 1/2 dollars to get the house roof painted. Jim graded tobacco. John Ward tied. He brough [sic] several gaskets full of potatoes to the house and put them up. I got dinner and played with Mabel the most of the evening. Edna is at home. I was glad to see her back. Jim and Ben has colds and coughs. I hope they may be well soon.
A cloudy morning and some rain. I think it rained most all night. The men stripped tobacco. The children went to school. Joe Edmons brought them home. I was glad for them. I cut three pair of drawers for Mabel and made one. They are two large for her. I have bin thinking of Kate to day. It was so rough that Ben could not haul a load for her. I hate so bad for her to have to leave the neighborhood. I had a letter from Carrie today. Was glad to hear but sorry that the children are sick.
A cloudy bad day. Ben went to Renan. He was one of the judges of the election. Jim stripped tobacc [sic] most of the day. Lee B. come for me and Jim went with us to Renan. Mr Kent brought us home. Mrs Kent voted. Mabel and I fixed to go if any one should come. I bought some cloth to make Mabel some dresses of. Kate was at the store. I was glad to see her. Ben has not come home yet. I am anxious to hear from the elections. The chimney burnt out tonight. It scared the children some. It is raining hard now.
A cloudy windy day. The men stripped tobacco most of the day. Ben carried Mr. Elders calf home this morning. He got to the corn and eat all that he could. Hope it won't hurt him. The children went to school. Edna and Franklin come home complaining of tooth ache and head ache. I hope they may be better by morning. Mabel has a bad cough. Ben has gone to the school house to night to a meeting of the committee. They want to make some way to pay for the school house. I hope that they may. I made Mabel a dress today.
A good day. The men stripped tobacco. Ben went to Renan and got some things that was bought at Kate's sale. Ben and Henry has gone to Mr. Mayhews to night. The children here and the Power children have had a good time playing to day. Mabel is got the tooth ache tonight. I cooked a possome today. Some of the folks eat it and some would not. I got a letter from Carrie today. She said that they were working on the road by there yet.
A cloudy day. Rain tonight. The men stripped tobacco all day. Would of loaded the wagon if it had bin a good evening. Mildred Power went with Edna to school. Elizabeth stayed with Mabel. I was glad that she did stay. I cooked beef and cabbage for dinner. Lawson Power come for the children at dark tonight. He eat supper with us. I hope they got home ok. We will miss them. Hope that they my may come a gain when the weather is warm so that Maybel [sic] can go where she pleases. The children here are at the dining room playing rook.
