Wednesday, March 24, 1920

A good day. The boys worked on their new ground. Mr Owen plowed. I got the most of dinner this evening. I made some soap then went to Marvins. Come by the turnip patch & cut salit for tomorrows dinner. Josie made a waist for Henry. The baby has bin very cross this evening. Franklin is well and plays all the time. The children went to school.

Tuesday, March 30, 1920

A good day. Ben helped rais a barn at George Blairs. Jim worked at home. Josie washed. She has had the tooth ache all day. I staid with the baby. This evening I went to Carries a little while. Tonight Janie Gravely & Hellen Brumfield and Franny Emerson are here to stay all night. Orval Gravely & Charley Harvey and Miss Smith & Miss Carter will stay until bed time. I will be glad when they brake up.

A good day. Cloudy this evening. Ben & Jim finished cleaning up the logs that come out of the olde house. Jim made a cage for chickens. Ben ditched. Irvin Harvey brought his calf here to pasture. Kate come a few minutes. Carrie come with her. We all went to the turnip patch. Josie carried little Mabel. The other children went to Marvins. My clock has stoped running.

Monday, April 5, 1920

Rain this morning. The branch was out of the banks. To night it is colde and windy. We all eat dinner at home this evening. Ben & Marvin Henry and Reece went to the Sulpher Springs. Josie Edna Franklin and Mabel and I all went to Marvins. Eula & Harold & Russel Mayhew come. The children had some colored eggs. I think they had a good time. Johnson Reynolds was at Marvins. Jim was there two. It has bin a bad Easter. I am glad that we are as well as usual.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim & Owen worked on a ditch this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. The surveyor was at Thomsons. Johnson Reynolds & Marvin Smith went with Ben. Josie ironed. I went to Marvins this evening. Henry & Edna went to school. Lee Brumfield passed here to day. Stoped a few minutes. Marvin is here to night. They are all at the dining room. Josie is at work on Mabels flannel

A clear colde windy day. Ben went with Johnson and Mollie and Christena to Danville. Jim and Owen plowed this evening. Josie washed this morning. I staid with Franklin & Mabel. Roy & Hazel Smith come and got some flowers this evening. Carrie & the children come a few minutes. Heard to night that the guano is at the Depot. Ben has gone to Mr Mayhews to see if he wont haul for them. Jim has gone to Marvins. Henry & Edna went to school. Dr [?] come over there.

A cloudy day & a little rain. Jim & Owen plowed. Ben cleaned up the branch bank. I washed some this morning. Kate Harvey come a few minutes this evening. I went with her as far as Marvins. I cut some salit for dinner tomorrow. Josie got dinner and ironed some to night. She looked in the range with Mabel in her arms. Mabel put her foot out and touched the hot door and burnt her self. I hope not bad.

A cloudy day. Ben and Ben plowed until noon this evening. Ben [?] & Nellie and Evylin to [?] on their way home Effie Brumfield stayed with us last night. She went home as Ben went. Josie & I got dinner. I went to [?] this evening. [Dr?] and Mrs Owen come while I was there to see Marvin about the road. Mabel is not well to night. Heard this evening that the guano is at the [?]. 9 o clock

A rainy day but not hard. Ben went to the island after guano Owen plowed some this morning. I went to Johnson Reynolds. Went by Mr Hutcherson. Talked with the snake a while. Eat dinner at Reynolds. Kate Harvey come down there a few minutes. Josie and the children staid at home. Mabel is sick. Ben put on a new tire and is going to pump up his tires ready to go to Chatham. I am glad things is not any worse.

A cloudy morning and clear this evening. Ben went to Chatham. The road question was decided to day. Carrie & the children spent the day with us. Ben & Marvin and Jim was in Chatham. Mr Owen plowed this evening. Ben brought some fish home tonight. I killed a chicken today. Mabel has bin sick all day. Jim & Ben [word omitted][?]Marvin to night.

Thursday, April 22, 1920

A beautiful day. The men plowed all day today. Mabel is sick. I went off fishing. Did not catch anything much. I bought 7 pounds of fish. Gave Carrie a part of them. Grace carried me. I was glad to go but hated to leave the sick baby and Josie. I know I will not go much more any way. Mollie was here this evening and Carrie was here a few minutes today. I am always troubled a bout some thing. Now it is the little babe. I do hope she will soon get well.

A clear windy day. Jim planted some things in the garden. Ben plowed all day. Henry cut his foot & and Reese steped on a nail. I hope they wont get bad off much. Mabel is some better off to day. We had fish from the river for breakfast. Josie sewed some. I got breakfast and dinner this evening. I went to Marvins a few minutes. Jim brought a little pig for us to feed up and try to make a hog.

A good day. Cool for this time of year. Ben plowed with two horses. Jim clean up the ground for him to plow. Mabel has cried most of the day. I got dinner and washed dishes. I went to Marvins a while this evening. The dogs broke up one of the hens this evening. Edna has bin crying with the tooth ache. Jim & Ben has gone to Marvins tonight.

Cloudy but no rain to do any good. The men folks worked on their tobacco land. Josie done a big washing by twelve oclock. I got dinner. Henry kept Mabel. Josie sewed some this evening. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie and I wrote a letter and the carrier did not take them up. 8 oclock Ben & Jim planted water mellon seed to day.

A little rain this morning. Ben & Jim drawed & planted tobacco all day. I drawed plants this evening. Mrs Owen helped me. Josie and the children Franklin & Mabel went to Marvins a little while. All a bed now. 9 20 oclock

A cloudy all day and a little rain. Enough to do lots of good. Jim & Ben Josie and the children come home to day at twelve. They had a good time but huriedly they had the babys pictures made. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Mollie & Christenia was going to Lee Brumfields. Kate Harvey come after potato slips. Robert brought me home. Ben had started after me.

A beautiful day. Cool for June. We all was at home for dinner. We had peas and chicken and chocolate pies. All of us went to Marvins this evening. We went to see the new road. Richard Wooding & family passed on his car. He ask some of us to ride. Josie and the baby and Franklin rode home. I was so glad that she could ride as she had to carrie the baby. 9 15 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben and Henry worked tobacco and planted potato slips. Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight to the Lodge. Josie ironed all the morning. Bathed and dressed the children. I got breakfast and milked the cows fed the chickens then I went to Mr Mayhews and Mr Edmons s for potatoe slips. Got a few at both places. Beatrice and Dewie come down here this evening. They said that the baby was sick.

A good cool day. Ben & Jim topped tobacco. Josie got dinner. I churned and cut the cucumber for pickle. This evening Josie commenced her a dress and went to Carries a little while. I picked a bucket of baries. I went to Mr Owens. His baby is sick. I am sorrie for them & the baby. I dont know what is the matter with him. Marvin went to Strait Stone to preaching. 9 oclock

A good day. They pulled a house full of tobacco today. Marvin & Carrie, Paul & Roy went to the [?] at Camp Branch. They all eat dinner with us. We were glad to have them. Kate Harvey come down a while this evening. Edna and Mabel caught a fall to night. Did not hurt them very much. 8:30 oclock

A rainy day most of the day. Ben & Henry suckered tobacco a while. Jim worked on his tobacco. Ben kept up fire/fine [?] in the barn. Josie got dinner. I made a few preserves of peaches that growed here. Pulled green[s] [?] Carrie come a few minutes for some soda. We owed her a pound. Josie is washing dishes now. The baby is a sleep. Kate come to Carries to day to see about some sowing. 8:30 oclock

A good day. The men worked on the tobacco. This evening Ben carried Nellie & Evylin home. Josie & Mabel went with them. They got home a bout dark. Josie got dinner. I helped Nell pick beans. I went to Carries a few minutes. I gathered some musk mellons. I suckered a little tobacco to day.

A good day. The men folks rehung two cureings of tobacco and moved them and hauled some sticks. Mabel has bin sick all day. They carried her to the Dr to night. I hope she may be better by morning. I got dinner and went to Marvins a few minutes. I gathered some snaps and dried beans and butter beans. Jim has gone to Marvins to night.

A good day. The men cut tobacco. They had Mr Dosses mules this evening. Mabel is very sick. Dr. Owen was at Marvins to see Roy. Josie carried the baby to see him. I got dinner and picked some beans. Dr. Owen brought Josie & the children home and I was glad. None of the boys will have to stay at the barn.

A good day. Cloudy tonight and looks like rain. The men folks cut tobacco and moved some to the grainry. Jim and Ben has gone to mowing. The baby is sick yet. We hope she is better than she was last night. I have done the work at the kitchen today. I went to Marvins a few minutes to day then picked some peas. Roy is better. Marvin & William was cutting tobacco.

A cloudy day. No rain. They men cut a house of tobacco for Jim. Jim & Ben went to the barn. Ben & Josie went to carrie Mabel to the Dr this evening. She is mightily bad off some way. She cries nearly all the time she is awake. I am sorry for her and all the rest of us. I got dinner cooked. Peas and chicken. Had a dish of snaps. I have bin at home all day.

A good day. The men pulled Jims tobacco. He is done [?] his crop. I handed leaves this evening. William Gilbert helped Jim today. Betty Haley washed today. Mabel is right much better off to day. Owens baby is sick. I got dinner today. Ben has bin at the barn today and tonight. Henry Blair and Charles Harvey come to the barn to day. 8:30 oclock

A rainy day. Jim and Ben tied primings. Josie caned some apples. I peeled them. I got a snack for dinner. I shelled beans all evening. Josie is very much complaining. I do hope she will be better soon. Mabel has bin as frisky as a kitten all day.

Oct first day

A good day. Ben & Jim cut corn all day. Josie and I got dinner. While we were eating dinner Charley Harvey & Lee Brumfield come. Josie and I registered and paid taxes. Josie made Edna a dress. I picked some peas and went to Marvins. To day is Mabels birthday.

8th A good day. Jim went to the mill at Galveston. Ben picked up the sweet potatoes and put them in sacks. Josie got dinner. This evening Ben carried Josie and the baby and Franklin and I to Cedar Forest. I fished in the Creek. The rest of them went to Jim Powers. Hazel has been sick all day. Ben & Henry gone hunting.
