Wednesday, June 12, 1918

Clear most of the day a sprinkle of rain this evening. The men finished workin over their tobacco to day and cut some wheat.

Josie and [I] washed to day and then got dinner.

Josie and I and the children went to Marvins this evening. Ben and Josie and Paul Bennett went to Mount Airy to night to an ice cream supper.

Nat Woodings car broke down to day he was at Mr Edmons. Ben let him have his to make his round on. He brought it back be fore night.

Sunday, September 15, 1918

A good day. Ben and family went to Rob Hubbards. Paul went with Marvin to Sunday School. He eat dinner at Marvins. Paul and Frank Blair went some where on Georges car. George and Denia was at Marvins this evening. Ren Worsham and family was at Marvins. Nat Wooding and family and Miss Alice Wooding was there two.

I staid at home til three oclock then I went to Marvins. I had bakers bread and cheese for dinner. Carrie sent them to me.

Tuesday, October 22, 1918

A good day. Paul and Owen Josie and I and the children finished stripping Pauls curing of tobacco this morning and commenced on Bens.

Josie come home to get dinner. She fried chicken and baked cocoanut pies. A bout twelve Gordon and Alma and Ola and Frances Bennett come for dinner. After dinner Bruce Reynolds and his mother come a few minutes. I was glad to see them all. Ben sowed wheat most of the day. This evening Nat Wooding phoned for Ben to come to Reynolds mail box and help him work on his car. Ben went. They could not fix it. They brought it here. Sidney Reynolds come after Nat and carried him home.

Paul finished sowing wheat. Mollie gave me a nice box of candy a birth day present. Marvin Smith paid our taxes this evening. Paul and Ben has bin at the barn to night hangin and putting tobacco in the pit.

Wednesday, October 23, 1918

A good day. There was a killing frost this morning. Ben worked on Nat Woodings car.

Nat come tonight and got his car. Ben went to Altavista this evening to see about getting some lumber a bout Mr Owens house.

The rest of us and Owen and two of his children helped to strip tobacco.

They put some tobacco in the pit to night.

Kate and Irvin Harvey come and got a few apples to day.

Tuesday February 1, 1921

A cloudy day. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco all day. Finished a cureing for Jim. Josie and I got dinner.

This evening Josie made starch and starched the clothes. Denia and Cordie Blair come this evening. I was glad that they come.

Marvin solde his last tobacco at Gretna. He was well pleased with the sale. Nat Wooding got two pounds of butter from here this evening.

Wednesday, February 25, 1920

A colde day. The ground was covered in snow this morning. The boys here did no try to work out. Josie got dinner. I sowed on my quilt most of the time. I am not well. Hope I wont get any worse. Nat Wooding carried the mail today. I am very glad that he was able to go. I got a pair of shoes to day. Don't know yet who ordered them. Anyway I am glad of them. Nearly all of the children are complaining. I do hope that they will be better soon.

Wednesday, April 14, 1920

A clear cool day. There was a big frost this morning. Jim & Ben covered the hen house this evening. Josie got dinner. I sewed a little. This evening we all went to Marvins. Henry & Edna went to school.

9:30 oclock

I wrote Lizzie Bennett a letter to night. I sold Nat Wooding some butter to day.

Saturday, April 24, 1920

A good day. Cool for this time of year. Ben plowed with two horses. Jim clean up the ground for him to plow. Mabel has cried most of the day. I got dinner and washed dishes. I went to Marvins a while this evening. The dogs broke up one of the hens this evening. Edna has bin crying with the tooth ache. Jim & Ben has gone to Marvins tonight.

I let Nat Wooding have a pound of butter.

Tuesday, October 5, 1920

5th day Tuesday

Ben & Jim gathered some apples and made cider. Josie got dinner. I picked peas most of the day. Went to Marvins a few minutes. Kate Harvey come a little while. This evening Charley Harvey come and brough our tax receipts. Josie sent Mrs Nat Wooding some peppers. Carrie Smith is very much complaining.

Wednesday, March 29, 1922

A good day. Jim split wood some today. Ben went to a barn raising at Mr Elders on Bob Starkeys land. Did not get home until night. Josie milked two cows. The other one we could not do any thing with. Franklin went to school today the first time in several weeks.

Nat Wooding brought us some salit to day. We were glad of it. Denia Blair come to see us a little while today. She come to see Mrs Bookers She was not at home and she come here.

Tuesday, July 18, 1922

A good morning rain this eve & tonight. The boys suckered tobacco this morning. Ben [drawed?] the wheat out of the box. It was heating. He intended going to the mill if it had not rained. Ben & Henry went to the store tonight. Have got in at nine o'clock. Mrs Car churned and shelled butter beans and scraped potatoes. We get plenty tomatoes now. Ella Hubbard sent Josie a nice basket of tomatoes by Nat Wooding today. I got a letter from Effie Brumfield today was glad to get it am always glad to hear from them

Thursday, July 20, 1922

A good day. The men suckered tobacco all day. Max Car went from here this evening. Denia Blair come to see Josie this evening. She brought some nice strawberries that Sallie Blair sent to Josie. Nat Wooding sent her 4 peaches very nice. Mollie Reynolds come to see Josie late this evening. I got dinner. Mrs Car helped me what she could.I starched the clothes. Intend to iron in the morning. Several of the people met at Straight Stone this evening and cleaned up the church.

Saturday, August 5, 1922

A good day until near night then a rain & wind and some hail. I hope not enough to damage any thing much. Ben & Henry cleared up a barn getting ready to cut tobacco. Ben has gone to Bookers barn now. Mrs Car bathed the children this evening. Mrs Dews sent me some snaps by Mr Nat Wooding. I am glad of them. I made one jar of preserves & one of pickle, and near a gallon of jellie made the damsons that Carrie brought all in jellie.

Friday, September 1, 1922

A good day. Jim & Ben both have tobacco in the barns. They will stay at the barns tonight. Ben went to [Carrie?] and got a girl to come and stay with us a while. Mrs Car went to them to the island. She bought several things. I went to Cedar Forest. I fished a while. I caught 6 fish. We fried them for Josies supper. Nat Wooding & wife & Mrs Peak come to see Josie today. Max is here tonight.

Wednesday, November 8, 1922

A good day some cooler than yesterdy. Ben disked some land to sowingness. Jim & Nellie stripped tobacco. It was not in good order. Mollie come down here a while this morning. She would not stay for dinner. I went to Renan this evening. Nat Wooding carried me most of the way over there. I walked home.

Josie has suffered a lot today. I got dinner. Nel churned. The children went to school. I started Carrie a letter today. Nellie got a letter from Evylin to day. I was glad. She wanted to hear so bad.

Tuesday, February 6, 1923

A bad day. Snowed some today. Ben worked on picture frames. Jim made fires until dinner. Then he went to Renan and to Bookers. They think that Kate is better. Hope so. Any way there is more sickness than I ever knowed. Heard today that there was 22 persons on Mr. Less Bookers place sick.

Henry went to school. They had very few pupils. Nellie done most of the cooking. I sewed a little. I milked yesterday and today Edna helped me. She milked one cow. They baby has bin very cross yesterday and today. Nat Wooding did not come by here today.
