A cloudy day. Ben finished sawin wood this morning. Josie ironed most of the day. She got dinner and supper. I sewed a little.

Made up the bleach that I got from Charles Williams Store.

Ben has gone to Strait Stone to night.

Henry is well enough that he has gone to bed in my room a gain.

A cloudy morning and rain this evening.

Josie washed this morning did not hang out the clothes. She put in a quilt this evening and we quilted some. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. Marvin went with him.

The branch was most passed fording. He come home and helped me milk.

Mr Bailiss come and bought some butter this evening.

Had a shower to day. Need rain yet. Ben and Paul and Owen plowed tobacco this morning. This evening Ben helped Marvin fix in his pump. To night Ben has gone to Strait Stone to the lodge.

Tom Edmons came this evening to tell us good by.

He has got to go to camp Tuesday. I feel so sorry for him. Lizzie and Earl Bennett come to see us. Tonight Paul and Earl has gone to see some of the young folks.

Mr Mayhew gave an ice cream supper. We were invited did not go.

A good day. Ben helped to dig Chesley Edmons grave to day. Josie has bin sick most of the day. She has the head ache to night very bad. Ben and Jim Emerson come here for dinner. I had not fixed any thought Ben would be at Mr Edmons for dinner. We soon got them a snack. Am all ways glad to see Mr Jim. Mrs Jessie and Mrs George Hutcherson stoped in here a while this evening. Murptist Harvey commenced on Marvins frame for his pit to day. Hope he will soon finish it. Ben has gone to Strait Stone to night. 8 oclock Little Edna Jenings was buried to day.

A good day. Ben & Owen moved tobacco all the morning. This evening they pulled leaves in Bens tobacco. Tonight they will stay with Owens tobacco. Jim has bin at the barns all day.

Josie sewed some this morning. This evening she went to Marvins. Today is Paul Smiths birthday. He is seven years olde.

This evening I went to George Blairs. Isla & Cordie was at home. Denia was at Ren Worshams. Beatris & Gladis Owen was there. The girls gave us some peaches & mellons. They were as nice to us as they could be.

Marvin was stripping tobacco but it dried out so he quit. Ben & Marvin has gone to Strait Stone to night.

Sunday March 6, 1921

A good day. The wind blowed some. We all staid at home. Lizzie come. Earl brought her. We was glad that she come. Josie and I got dinner. Josie got supper.

Lizzie and Earl has just started home. Ten oclock. Carrie and the children come a little while this evening. They went to Strait Stone this morning to preaching. Mr Lee preached his farewell sermond at that place.

Saturday May 14, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben worked on his car most of the day. This evening he carried me to Strait Stone Creek and the store. We come back by Renan. We met with Clifton and Jane Reynols. I was glad to see them.

Jim went to Chatham. Marvin went to Altavista to day. He had his teeth worked on.

Henry went to Uncle Johnsons this morning. He got some guina eggs. I put them under a hen to night. I hope that they may hatch.

Ben carried my calf Peggy to Marvins pasture to day.

Tuesday July 5, 1921

A good day. Ben & Jim plowed corn all day. Nellie and Josie picked berries all the morning. They got a fine lot. Nellie preserved hers. Josie caned what she got.

I got dinner and churned. I have not seen Carrie today. Mr McNary[?] is at Marvins tonight.

None of my folks went to Strait Stone to see the show. Henry wanted to go bad. The rest did not come.

Tuesday July 26, 1921

A good day. No rain here today. Jim & Ben worked in the tobacco this morning and on Marvins waggon body this evening. Josie washed today. The machine engine would not work. She washed by hand. This evening Virginia Harvey and her mother come this evening. Virginia staid all night. Ben & Josie and Virginia & Julia have all gone to Strait Stone to meeting. Hope that they may have a pleasant time and no one get hurt.

Carrie and her little ones come a while this evening. Marvin sent for them. Reese brought the car. Thomas Tomson brough Virginia home to night.

Sunday October 30, 1921

A rainy day. The firs day that it has rained for a long time. I am glad it has rained for we needed it so bad.

We all staid at home to day except I went to Marvins a few minutes. They were all getting on well. There was to be preaching at Strait Stone. Marvin went to meet the professor and they were going togather. Mrs Car was with us to day. I am glad to have her any time she will come.

A beautiful day. Ben hauled some lightwood this morning. This evening he went to Strait Stone and brought Mr George Worsham up to the school house and carried him back. They got the pump to work so they can get water at the school house. The picture agent come this evening and brought Josies pictures. Carrie Smith had a lot of company this evening. Kate Harvey & Mag Brumfield, Mollie Reynolds and Josie and Mabel. Otho Blair and Sallie and I went fishing. Did not catch many fish but had a pleasant evening. I was so glad that they carried me. Marvin has his waggon loaded to got to Gretna. I fear it will rain by morning. Jim has not come home yet.

A beautiful day. Ben & Jim & Henry sawed wood all day and did not get done. Jim went to Hutchersons and got oil and Ben went to Renan and got oil. Josie has had a time with Mabel. She has bin sick all day. I got dinner. This evening I went to Marvins a whil. Marvin went to Strait Stone to preaching. Brought me two books that I borrowed from Ethel Worsham. I have bin reading tonight. There is a show at Renan to night. None of my folks did not go to see it. Ben and Henry went hunting tonight. Did not catch any thing. Professor Gambol passed here this evening on his way to Mr Edmons. Guess he will spend the night there.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim helped Marvins boys load on some things this morning then moved a cureing of tobacco. Then they sawed some wood. Finished what they had at the wood pile and moved the engine to night. Ben & Jim and Norman Booker went to Strait Stone. Jim come home about nine oclock. Ben and Norman has come in at eleven oclock. Josie caned some meat this evening. I think we brok about five cans. Mrs Booker staid with us tonight while the men was gone. I think I will like her fine but no one can fill Carries place. I can hardly stay at home I mis Marvins folks so much. Franklin and Edna is going to bed. 11 oclock

A partly day. Jim & Ben hauled up some corn stalks this morning. This evening they cut wood for Norman Booker. Tonight Ben & Josie went to Strait Stone. Did not stay long. Mabel staid up until they come home. Marvin Smith come today. He eat dinner with us. Josie ironed most allday. I got dinner except make the biskit. Josie done that. I stewed pumpkin the most of the day. Lizzie Bennett and Lee Brumfield gave me a pumpkin. We did not make one this year. Eleck Gilbert hauled and put wood under shelter to day. I am glad of it. The children went to school.

Wednesday December 21, 1921

A good day. Jim hauled some chaff this morning. This evening he shucked corn. Ben worked on the dineing room floor this morning. This evening he went to Strait Stone. I went with him. Kate Harvey come this morning. Kate and I dressed 4 turkeys. One for Jim, one for Marvin, one for Josie, and one for Kate. This evening Marvin come and got his turkey and ham boiler. He had Hazel & Eva with him. I went with him as far as Reynols mail box and walked home. Mollie Reynols was not at home. Hattie Gilbert washed here today. The wind is blowing to night. I reckon they will all blow of the line. Heard today that Mrs Jessie Hutcherson has a son. There is a lot of travlins done today. The school closed today for holiday. Ben[?] has gone to the school house to night.

Thursday December 22, 1921

A colde day partly cloudy. Hailing and snowing tonight. Jim shucked some corn and toated stalks for the cows. Ben sawed wood at Kate Harveys. Brought the engine & saw home tonight. Ben went to Strait Stone tonight. He went for medicine for Mabel. She has a colde and is very hoarse. We are a fraid she will have the croup. Josie ironed today and worked on her cakes some. I got dinner. Denia Blair come a little while. I was glad that she come. Two of the Doss girls come a few minutes. They borrowed a last. Said they wanted to mend shoes. I am sorry that it is weathering. Did hope it would stay good until Jim could get home. We sent Kates turkey to her this morning.

A clear colde day. Jim & Ben cut and split some wood. Went to Renan for gas to saw some wood. Ben has gone hunting tonight. Josie ironed some & got dinner. I sewed on a quilt. Mr. Owen went to Strait Stone. He got ten pound of sugar for me. Guess it will cost 20 cts. per pound. The children went to school to day. 9 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben & Henry sawed wood at the wood pile. Tonight Ben & Jim went to Strait Stone. Henry & Edna went to Marvins. Josie ironed some & I finished my quilt. Josie washed a big washing this morning. I got dinner.

A very colde day. Spit snow part of the time. Jim & Ben worked on their baskets all the morning. They went to Strait Stone this evening. I think they got very colde. Josie has done most all the work today. I have felt bad all day. I sowed on my quilt some. Carrie come a few minutes this evening. Marvin is here tonight. The children went to school.

Cloudy day & some rain. Jim & Ben and Owen cut feed & then sawed wood. They got done by sundown. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie sewed some this morning. This evening she went to Strait Stone. She carried ten and a half dozen eggs. She was not gone long. I stayed with the children. Carrie come a few minutes this evening. She brought a nice cake. I am glad of it.

A clear windy day. Ben & Jim & Henry split wood at the wood pile. Jim started to Chatham this evening. He started walking. Ben & Henry went to Strait Stone this evening. They walked. A man come here last night and ask to stay all night. Ben let him stay and Josie fixed him supper. I kept the baby while she was at it. He said he had walked from Greene Burough NC. Josie & I have set by the fire all that we could. Henry bought him a watch at Strait Stone.

A beautiful day. Ben split wood at the wood pile. He fixed up the clothesline and the garden palings. Jim come home just at night. He come with Odie Kelly from Gretna. Josie washed and then went to Carries. I went to Carries two. Caried some butter for Kate Harvey. I come by the turnip patch and cut some salit. Tonight the boys & Marvin has gone to Strait Stone. There is a light in the north tonight.

A good day. Jim plowed in the new ground. Mr Owen plowed with two horses. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked and churned. I made two pots of soup. I cut some salit for tomorrow. Carie come & cut some for her self. I cut Kate a mess & Reese carried it to her. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben borrowed John Hutchersons boots & ditched some this evening. Tonight Ben & Jim & Marvin has all gone to Strait Stone.

A good day. Ben went to Mag Brumfields to a cutting match. Jim cleared up the garden nearest [?] the potatoes. Henry went to Mags this evening & to Lees. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Found them all well. Josie baked some pies this evening. Charles Harvey come & brought a sack of ship stuff home. Jim & Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight.

A good day. The land is so wet that they cant plow. Ben worked on a closet for Owen. Jim went to Clide Reynolds with potatoes that he had solde to Clide. Josie got dinner. I picked over some onions. Carrie & the children come a while this evening. Josie & Carrie cut some salit for dinner tomorrow. Ben & Marvin went to Strait Stone this evening to see Thomson a bout the road. Ben never got back until after 9 oclock.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim & Owen worked on a ditch this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. The surveyor was at Thomsons. Johnson Reynolds & Marvin Smith went with Ben. Josie ironed. I went to Marvins this evening. Henry & Edna went to school. Lee Brumfield passed here to day. Stoped a few minutes. Marvin is here to night. They are all at the dining room. Josie is at work on Mabels flannel

A colde windy day. Jim and Ben & Marvin went to Strait Stone this morning. This evening Ben & Marvin went to Chatham. Jim cut wood for Kate. Carrie & the children come down here. Josie baked a cake for Franklins birth day. I think the children enjoyed it. Mollie come a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie & I have not done anything in the way of settled work. Nursed [?]& cooked a little. Franklin is four years olde today.

A good day. Jim & Ben staid at home until twelve. Ben & family went to Mr Powers this evening. Earl Bennett come this evening and got three pigs. Lizzie Anderson was with him. Marvin & Carrie and three children went to Strait Stone to preaching. I went with them. I was glad to see so many of my acquantances and enjoyed the sermond. I come home for dinner. We had fried chicken & straw be Carrie gave me a [?] of berries and cake.

A good day. Jim & Ben and Henry worked tobacco and planted potato slips. Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight to the Lodge. Josie ironed all the morning. Bathed and dressed the children. I got breakfast and milked the cows fed the chickens then I went to Mr Mayhews and Mr Edmons s for potatoe slips. Got a few at both places. Beatrice and Dewie come down here this evening. They said that the baby was sick.

A good day. Jim staid at home all day. Ben went to Mount Airy to get ice. Did not get any. Come by Renan & brought Kate Harvey home with him. He had all the children with him. He then went to Strait Stone and got ice. Josie made cream for dinner. We had our first snaps and beets. We had fried chicken. Marvin and family was here a few minutes this evening. Reese Smith carried Aunt Kate home. Henry too. 9 oclock
