A good day. Ben and Owen & Paul Bennett plowed corn. Got done a while before night then went to Cedar Forest. Carried some beans & eggs. The men went bathing. Josie and the children went with them to the store. Josie milked and churned and got dinner. Ren Worsham carried Isla & Cordie Blair and I to Mr Jessie Worshams Mill Pond to fish. None of us caught any thing to keep. Cordie and Isla caught a fish a peice but did not get them out of the pond. Denia went to see Lottie Craddock to day. Frank and George went to Danville to night.

Ben and two of the children & Josie has gone to the School House to a play.

A good day. The men folks worked on the branch.

Josie comenced washin this morning. Bettie Rosser come and finished washin and washed some of the floors.

There was a demonstration of machinery at Mr Hutchersons to day. None of us went.

Henry & Edna and I went to Creasys fish pond this evening. Ben carried us. We walked home. We caught some little fish. Mrs Millam and Giles was there most of the time that we were. I was glad to be with her.

Friday, June 27, 1919

Some rain to day.

Ben went to Cedar Forest for his horse that he left yesterday. The river did not get very high. Not like it was expected to. Ben come to Strait Stone and helped to sein some. Brought home 4 nice cat fish.

Josie cleaned up the cupboard some. I got dinner. Potatoes & peas and beets.

Mr. Owen went to see his brother to day.

A good day. Ben carried Lady cow to Odie Kellies the went to Cedar Forest to see [?] Patrick. He let me go with him and fish. I caught several cat fish.

Willie Mayhew brought our tobacco to Gretna from Danville.

I got supper tonight after dark. The children had made a fire and brought water.

Monday November 21, 1921

Monday November 21, 1921

A beautiful day. Jim & Ben shucked some corn this morning and fed the cows the stalks. Then they stripped tobacco until dinner. Josie and I persuaded Ben to go to the mill. Josie shelled some corn whle washed the dishes. We went with him. We fished some. We caught 39 fish dressed them and intend to cook them for breakfast in the morning. I was so glad to go fishing. We come by the store and bought a few things. Jim and Ben tied some tobacco to night. The children went to school except Mabel. She went with us fishing. I have not seen any of Marvins folks today.

Thursday November 24, 1921

A good day and warm. There was a rain bow was in the clouds this morning. It has rained a little tonight. Ben & Jim shucked some corn. Then they comence to cover the shed. Riped off the shingles. Josie ironed some this morning. I churned & killed a chicken. We cooked some parships the first time this fall. Kate Harvey come and brought us some salit. Reese Smith carried me to White Falls. I caught several fish. Paul Smith caught two fish. We come back by Renan store. Jim Thomson and family was there. Four of Mag Brumfield children was at the store. They all looked well. Mr Meguary[?]was here this morning. We bought a few things from him.

Wednesday November 30, 1921

A beautiful day for Nov. Ben put in some window glass this morning. This evening they worked on the pump at the school house. Did not get it fixed. Jim did not come home tonight. Denia and Cordie Blair come here this evening and then went to Mr Woodings. I am sorry I was not at home. I had ask Oscar Brumfield to take me fishing. He carried his mother and I to the river at White Falls. We caught 40 fish. I was so glad to go. I do love to go but when I get home and can see what a fool they think I am then I wish I had staid at home. I have finished twenty squares for Josies quilt. nine oclock at night

Thursday December 1, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben hauled some lightwood this morning. This evening he went to Strait Stone and brought Mr George Worsham up to the school house and carried him back. They got the pump to work so they can get water at the school house. The picture agent come this evening and brought Josies pictures. Carrie Smith had a lot of company this evening. Kate Harvey & Mag Brumfield, Mollie Reynolds and Josie and Mabel. Otho Blair and Sallie and I went fishing. Did not catch many fish but had a pleasant evening. I was so glad that they carried me. Marvin has his waggon loaded to got to Gretna. I fear it will rain by morning. Jim has not come home yet.

Saturday December 3, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben & Jim & Henry sawed wood all day and did not get done. Jim went to Hutchersons and got oil and Ben went to Renan and got oil. Josie has had a time with Mabel. She has bin sick all day. I got dinner. This evening I went to Marvins a whil. Marvin went to Strait Stone to preaching. Brought me two books that I borrowed from Ethel Worsham. I have bin reading tonight. There is a show at Renan to night. None of my folks did not go to see it. Ben and Henry went hunting tonight. Did not catch any thing. Professor Gambol passed here this evening on his way to Mr Edmons. Guess he will spend the night there.

A good day. Ben & Jim killed their hogs, 6 in number. They were very fat. Marvin and Claud Edmons and a darkey Booker Callands. Alcie Green helped me. We got on fine I thought. Nellie Brumfield come this morning. Mr. Fretwell[?] brough her down. Martha Miller worked on lard for Carrie most all day. Marvin Smith & Ben Brumfield went to Gretna late this evening. They have not got home yet. I am so near a sleep I cant write much

I have counted the times that I have bin fishing this year. I have bin thirty nine times.

A good day. Ben & Jim raked their new ground & pulled a few stumps. Josie got dinner. I went down the branch & caught a little fish. Carrie & the children come a little while. Carried washed today. I sent a letter to Golde. Hope he will get it. I got a letter from John today. He is well. Jim Emerson & Lucius Graveley passed here to day. Lucius said he expected to start for NC this evening.

A cloudy morning and clear this evening. Ben went to Chatham. The road question was decided to day. Carrie & the children spent the day with us. Ben & Marvin and Jim was in Chatham. Mr Owen plowed this evening. Ben brought some fish home tonight. I killed a chicken today. Mabel has bin sick all day. Jim & Ben [word omitted][?]Marvin to night.

Thursday, April 22, 1920

A beautiful day. The men plowed all day today. Mabel is sick. I went off fishing. Did not catch anything much. I bought 7 pounds of fish. Gave Carrie a part of them. Grace carried me. I was glad to go but hated to leave the sick baby and Josie. I know I will not go much more any way. Mollie was here this evening and Carrie was here a few minutes today. I am always troubled a bout some thing. Now it is the little babe. I do hope she will soon get well.

A clear windy day. Jim planted some things in the garden. Ben plowed all day. Henry cut his foot & and Reese steped on a nail. I hope they wont get bad off much. Mabel is some better off to day. We had fish from the river for breakfast. Josie sewed some. I got breakfast and dinner this evening. I went to Marvins a few minutes. Jim brought a little pig for us to feed up and try to make a hog.

A bright cool day. Jim & Owen worked on the land to get it ready to plant. Josie ironed this morning. I got a snack for dinner. I milked and churned and fed the chickens & dressed a hen for dinner [?] tomorrow at dinner. I got Ben to take me & the children to White Falls. We caught a few fish. Kate Harvey come while I was gone. I was sorry not to see her. Charles Harvey come by this evening.

A beautiful day. Ben and family went to Rob Hubbards. They brought back a nice mess of fish. We cooked them tonight. I went to Marvins and eat dinner. Carrie had fried chicken, the first that she had this spring. She had cherrie pies. I did enjoy my dinner.

A good day. The men worked on their tobacco land. Josie staid at home and got dinner. This evening she went to Marvins. Marvin let Reese thak [take] me fishing. We went to Mr Jessie Worshams pond. Did not catch any thing. Come to the creek and fished a while. Did not catch any thing. I bought 10 pounds of sugar from Oscar Booker. Paid 30 cts a bushel of meal for $2.25. 9 oclock

A good day. We need rain so bad. Ben & Mr Owen hauled a stack of hay from Odie Kellies. Jim and Henry replanted corn. Josie ironed and got dinner. Marvin carried Reese & Edna and I to Banister River. Ben & family come after us. We caugh a few fish. Carrie washed to day. 9 10 oclock

A good day. We need rain very bad. The men folks finished plowing over their corn this evening. Ben & Henry and Franklin and I went to Long Island. I fished a little while. Caught a little cat fish. Ben bought a few things from [?] Josie done a big washing to day and ironed some this evening. Carrie & the children come a little whil this evening. I am a sleep and blot my book. 9 15 oclock Note written upside down across the top of the page: I got a box of shells that John sent me.

A clear hot day. Jim worked in his tobacco. Ben went to the mill mighily a gainst his will. He let Henry and I go with him. We fished. Caught 14. Had them for dinner. Josie got dinner. She had chicken. I went to Marvins a few minutes. One of the cows is sick. I do hope she will get well. Eva Smith is not well. I hope she may get well soon. 9 10 oclock

A good day. The men thined corn and then cut wheat. Franklin has bin very sick all day. I do hope he will be better by morning. Two of the Hubbard girls washed for Josie today. I got dinner. Reese carried me to White Falls. The river was so muddy that we could no fish and catch any thing. We come by Mount Airy and bough a few things. 9 oclock

A good day. Fanny & Effie Power & Brumfield was here to day. Ben carried them to Lee Brumfields this evening. Ben finished cutting oats this morning. This evening he went to Cedar Forest. He carried Josie and all the children and I. I went with them to the creek. While they bathed I fished. Caught 7 fish. We got home on time to do our work. Carrie has bin sick to day. It is raining.

A good day. Very warm. Ben & Jim finished laying by Bens tobacco. Josie got dinner and ironed some then went to Marvins. Reese & Henry and I went to White Falls. I caught a few fish. The river was mudy. I brought home a bushel of meal. Carrie and I togather sold 8 doz eggs at 35 cts per doz. All of us are reason able well. I hope I am thanksful.

A good day. Ben carried Mrs Car home this morning. Henry & I went with him. Jim wormed tobacco this morning. Picked black berries this evening. Reese carried me to White Falls this eve. I caught a few fish. The river was muddy. I helped Josie get dinner. Harvey Charles & Virginia is here to night. Mollie Reynolds was at Marvins. A lot of girls went to the pond this eve. 9 oclock

A good day and very warm. To night we have a hard rain. Jim & Ben topped tobacco nearly all day. Late this evening Ben & Josie and three children went to Jim Powers. Said they would come home tonight but they wont on acount of rain. Josie washed some this morning & got dinner. Corn, butter beans, potato, baked pies. Marvin let Rees take me to White Falls. I caught 34 fish. I eat dinner at Carries. Eva is sick.

A good day. Ben & Jim worked in their tobacco until noon then they sowed a turnip patch and worked in tobacco some more. Josie got dinner and ironed. Reese carried Henry and I fishing. We caught several fish. I could not dig for bait. Josie got them for me. I wore her nice watch the first one that I ever wore. Bettie Haley washed here today. She had a boy to help her. I went to Mr Owens this evening. Henry has bin sick all day.

A cloudy all day. Rain tonight. The men cut tobacco all day. Ben & Owen will stay at the barn. Josie caned some tomatoes this morning and made preserves and catchsup. She got most of the dinner. I milked and churned and kept busy most of the day. Miss Willie Wooding come a little while. Henry & Ben went hunting last night. Did not catch anything.

A good day. Ben fired tobacco. Jim went to Chatham. Marvin carried him a part of the way. Josie ironed some and got dinner. I picked some peas and killed a chcken and churned. This evening Hugh Brumfield and Henry Brumfield and I went to White Falls fishing. We did not catch many fish. Kate Harvey come while I was gone.

A good day. Jim and Ben & Marvin went to Danville to a farmers meeting. I am a fraid it wont do any good. Reese carried me to White Falls fishing. Josie ironed most of the day. Jim & Ben and Owen and Marvin all went to the meeting in Danville. Carrie washed and let Reese go with me. Hazel was sick today. I do hope she will be well tomorow.
