Some rain to day not enough to stop work. Ben helped Marvin Smith cover his barn. Mr Owen plowed.

Josie got dinner and colored some eggs for the children and made some bats for her quilt.

Carrie and the children was here a while this evening. The children had a time hunting eggs. I sowed a few seed in the garden to day.

A good day. Ben went to Renan to try and get a horse to plow a few days. Did not get it. Josie went to Carries this morning and bathed the baby. After dinner Ben and Josie went to Strait Stone.

Children and I went to Carries. I replanted potatoes. Planted some gourd seed yesterday. Owen went to the mill to day.

A good day. Ben and Paul worked tobacco. Kate Harvey and Josie found a swarm of bees in the orchard yesterday.

Ben hived them this morning. I hope that they may do well. Josie got dinner. I worked some in the garden. Planted some muskmellon seed and few pea nuts. I planted a few pumpkin seed.

I went to Blairs late this evening. They were all well. Sallie Blair was there. Did not see Cordie or Nettie. They were at Ren Worshams.

A good day most of the day. Had a little rain this evening. Ben and Paul still working tobacco. Josie ironed. I got dinner. I planted some cucumber and pumpkin seed.

Josie and Ben went to Strait Stone this evening and got some things. Among them were 4 tin buckets.

Mr Dave Layne and his son [ink smear] Walter and got a cow [smear] and calf.

Edna and Franklin are sick. If anyone wonders why this page is so blotted, I went to sleep.

A good day.

Ben and Paul worked tobacco all day. I washed a little this morning. Josie churned and got dinner. Baked a cake. This evening she washed the dining room floor.

George Worsham come here this evening assessing property. I planted sunflower seed this evening.

Tonight Ben has gone to Marvins to try and mend the freezer. Hope he can get it mended.

A good day. Ben plowed up the potatoes and Josie picked them up. Ben sowed turnip seed to day. Paul tied some primings. Josie got most of the dinner. I churned went after some tomatoes. After dinner I put up three cans and killed two chickens and cut the cucumbers and put them in brine.

Paul and Thelma went to Dick Woodings to a stew to night. I hope they may have a nice time.

Julia and Henry and Edna are in my room and talk so much that I am in the hall writing.

Chesley Edmons cut a house of tobacco today.

A good day. Ben sowed wheat. Owen and Paul Josie and I stripped tobacco. Heard today that John McCormic died this morning. I never have heard of as many deaths and as much sickness as there is now.

The ware houses has closed for a while. Bruce Reynolds come home yester day. Mrs Cook is at Johnsons visiting.

Ben has gone to Mrs Starkeys for seed wheat. He went on his car.

A cloudy day most all day. Mr Owen plowed most of the Jim & Ben hauled straw and [?] Jims potato patch then worked on the tobacco land. Jim and I planted some onions this evening.

Josie got dinner--most of it. Denia & Corrdie come this evening. Josie and Cordie ordered some flower seed & bulbs. Carrie and the children come this evening. Jim Emerson passed going down the way.

Ben has a bad colde & is very much complaining.

A cloudy day. Rain this evening. Jim & Ben planted corn on the branch land this morning. This evening Ben finished ceiling Marvins room then they planted some water mellon seed.

Josie washed this morning. I helped some.

I picked a few straw berries for supper.

Franklin is very sick to night. I do hope he may be better by morning.

A very cool day for May. We begin to need rain.

Ben & Jim & Henry worked tobacco all day. Mr John Baily eat dinner here to day. Ben & Jim & Henry has gone to the school house to night. A patrons meeting.

Josie ironed this morning. This evening she went to Marvins. Nettie Blair & Doris Brumfield and Ada Hutcherson come here this evening. Doris wanted water mellon seed.

We heard to day that Mrs Lucie Peak started to the hospitle at Roanoke.

I am glad that Franklin is a most well a gain.

A good day. The men folks worked on their tobacco all day.

I washed a little this morning. Josie got dinner. She had croped [?] greens and beets, onions & potatoes and tomatoes and pies. It was all good but worked her two hard.

This evening I went to George Blairs. The girls were seeding cherries. Denia & Mrs Hutcherson was gone to see Ethel Worsham. I come by Carries. Josie was there. We seeded some cheries.

A little rain to day. The men folks worked in the tobacco most all day.

Josie got dinner. I worked in the garden a while. Josie gathered some snaps this evening and we strung them tonight.

William Gilbert gathered two gallons cheries for us to day. Josie and I seeded them this evening.

A good day and very warm. Ben & Jack painted the stable & buggy house tops. Jim went to the mill.

Josie got dinner & ironed. I went with Mr Willie Mayhew & wife to Long Island. We all fished some. We did not catch any thing. I am so thankful that they would be troubled with me. I eat dinner with them. The whole trip did not cost me a penny.

Marvin went to Jim Eades and got seed wheat. He brought some for Ben. Marvin went to Long Island and got a bed stead this evening.

A good day. The men folks stripped tobacco most of the day. Ben went to see some of the teachers.

Josie & I got dinner. Old man Sam C[a?]llens was buried this evening. We have knowed him ever since we lived in this neighborhood.

Marvin & family went to Chatham this evening. They had the childrens pictures made.

Heard that my brother is improving. Hope he may get well a gain.

Miss Alice Wooding sent me some seed corn by Ben this evening. Hope I may live and be able to plant it.

A beautiful day. Jim & Ben shucked corn all day or a bout. I went and shucked one shock.

Josie both had a hand getting dinner. Josie baked a cream puding. It was fine. This evening I went to Marvins. Kate Harvey was there. She did not stay late. I was glad to see her. Osker come down here this evening. Irvin Harvey was with him. Oscar brough Ben clover seed. He got some butter. They had company to night.

Henry and Edna went to school to day.

A good day. Ben plowed all day with two horses. Jim plowed some in the garden and plowed for a potatoe patch. Tonight Jim & Ben and Henry has gone to Strait Stone.

Josie dressed a chicken and baked pies and got dinner this evening. She bathed the children and got supper.

Doris and Janie Brumfield come. I was glad to see the children.

Marvin went to Altavista. He got seed potatoes. Marvin and the children and Carrie went to Strait Stone. The preacher Mr Lee is there tonight.

A good day. Ben sowed grass seed. Jim planted things in the garden & a potatoe patch. Josie sowed for Franklin most of the day. This evening I went to George Blairs. Denia was not at home. I had a pleasant time with the girls. I stoped at Mr Hutchersons. Mrs Mayhew was there. I am glad that she is able to get round that much. I enjoyed being with them.

Kate Harvey come to Marvins and her and Carrie come here. I am sorry that I was not at home. Marvin went to the Iland for a phonogapt for Carrie and Josie. Ben and Josie have gone up there to night and I dont know when they are coming back. Mabel stayed a wake until after nine oclock. Marvin solde Jerrie [Jennie?] to day.

A good day. Had a little rain a bout day this morning. Need more bad. Ben sowed some rye this morning. Jim shelled some corn this morning. Ben went to the mill this evening. Carried corn & rye & wheat. I went with him on the waggon. I fished while they ground the grain. I caught several fish. I intend to fry them in the morning.

Josie has raked a place in the garden and sowed turnip seed on it. I do hope that they may come up and grow.

Ben and Josie dug bait for me while I changed my dress and shoes.

A cloudy day & cool no to do any good. Jim & Ben sowed some seeds. Ben went to the school house to a farmers meeting. He joined the unioin today. There was a big crowd so Ben said.

Jim is helping Marvin tie tobacco tonight. Ben & Mr Mayhew has gone hunting. Josie made Mabel a dress to day. We went to Marvins this evening a little while. I have bin sewin on a quilt tonight.

A good day. Jim put up the potatoes sweet and irish. Ben sowed wheat tonight. They have gone to Gretna for grass seed. Carrie has a girl born this morning at two oclock. Denia come over here this morning a while.

Josie killed chickens and baked a cake. To day is Henrys birth day.

Clifton and Jane come here a little while tonight. Marvin went to Renan this evening. He traded some chickens.

I got up the pea nuts this evening.

A good day. Jim & Owen plowed this evening. Owen went to the mill this morning. Ben ditched some today. Josie has had the tooth ache all day. Carrie & the children come a little while this evening. All they talk is good roads. Denia sent me some seed beans. Cordie sent me some gourd seed. The children went to school. I sowed some on a quilt.

A good day. Ben finished planting corn and fixed some land for water mellons seed. Jim draged his new ground. He had one of Marvins horses. Josie done a big washing and sewed this evening. I got dinner and churned this evening. I worked a few gourd plants and pulled dirt in the ice house hole. Went to Larries a few minutes then went to the plant bed for salit.

Cloudy but no rain to do any good. The men folks worked on their tobacco land. Josie done a big washing by twelve oclock. I got dinner. Henry kept Mabel. Josie sewed some this evening. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie and I wrote a letter and the carrier did not take them up. 8 oclock Ben & Jim planted water mellon seed to day.

A good day. The boys planted some tobacco today and plowed some. Josie and I got dinner. I churned this evening. I went to Marvins. Got some bean seed and some butter beans. I planted the beans and gave the butter beans to Mrs Owen. Today is Lizzie Bennetts birth day. Henry & Edna droped plants. Henry pulled off my shoes tonight for me. 9 oclock

Cloudy most of the day. Rain this evening. The men finished putting in guano to day. Josie staid at home all day. Carrie and Kate come a little while this evening. I went to George Blairs this evening. They had a quilt in. I quilted some. They were as nice to me as they could be. They sent me home. George Jr. brought me. I saw Mr Hutcherson. He was friendly as usual. I planted some sunflower seed to day. 9 oclock

A good day. Ben sowed clover seed. Jim got rock off the new ground. Josie got dinner. She cut salit and stewed peaches. I put a quilt in the frames. We both quilted this evening. We both milked tonight. I milked the cow that kickes so some times. Hattie washed the clothes dried and we took them in. Gladice Brumfield come with the children from school. Franklin Brumfield and Alvin Mayhew stoped at Mr Booker and stayed an hour or more this evening.

A good day. the Boys planted corn all day. Irvin Hervey was here today. he eat Dinner here. he come [fo?] Seed corn. Denia come to see us today I was glad to see her. I got a letter from Carrie today. Marvin [wry?] out trying to work. Josie [ironed?] and starched today will have a big ironing to morrow. I got Dinner went to the plant seed for [salit?]. Henry & Edna went to School then Henry & Franklin went to the store got home at dark. Henry brought a jug of [ail?] I was glad he got it.

A good day. Jim plowed the garden and planted some seed of one kind or other. Ben has not come home yet. Kate Harvey come a while. I was glad that she come. We went to the cherrie tree & curant bush. Kate tolde me that Thomas Thomson & Virginia went to Marvin Smiths They were all well. Henry & Edna went to school. Hattie washed here Today I borrowed soap from Mrs Booker paid it back this evening. I keep going to sleep and blot my book.

A fine day. Cool tonight. Jim & Ben worked on the oat land. [I?] Some chaps shucked a shock of corn this morning and put it in the corn house. I and the col girl got dinner. I churned this evening. Ben went to the island for grass seed. Mabel and I went with him. I fished a little while. Caught two little fish. Lizzie helped get supper while I milked the cows. Ben & Jim & Rob Hubbard has gone hunting tonight. Dont know when they will get home.

A good day. Ben sowed some grass seed. Jim & Nellie stripped tobacco. Nellie helped me this morning. I milked two cows and one was not up. I hunted for her but did not find her. Jim found her in Mr Bookers field. Josie has suffered a lot today. Mr Irvin Lewis sent Josie a nice box of grapes by mail today. Mr Dews come tonight and paid Mrs Car some mony. Fannie Power and I ironed some this evening. I am so glad that it is done. I s[t]arched some clothes this evening.
