Wednesday June 22, 1921

Clear this morning. Rain this evening. We are very glad of it. Ben & Jim commenced to cut oats this morning. Replanted tobacco this evening. Jim have gone to the school house to night to a farmers meeting.

Josie got dinner. I washed a little. This evening I went to Marvins a few minutes.

Marvin had the surveyor at his house to day to cut his land in lots to sell. I am very sorry that he will sell but it may be for the best. I know I sall miss them if I live that long. Marvin has bin kind to me.

Saturday October 1, 1921

A beautiful day cool and dry. We need rain very bad. Ben went to Eanes a gain today. Mr Mayhew went with him. They eat supper there. Jim planted a gate post and done a round here all day.

Josie ironed this morning. Worked all the evening at one thing an other. I mended a few things this evening and worked on the straw berry vines a little getting the grass out. We bought a peice of beef this morning. We all enjoyed it.

Today was Mabels birth day. She has had a good day for her. Henry gathered a few peas to day.

Friday, March 26, 1920

A rainy morning. The children did not go to school. Mrs. Wooding come by this evening and left Virginia to play with Edna. The men folks planted posts to put up a fence. Josie ironed. I got dinner. Got three boxes of borax from Russel Peak and finished my soap makeing.

8 oclock

Josie heard that there is to be a party at Mr Powers to night. They were not invited.

Cloudy nearly all day. Ben and Mr Mayhew went to the island for guano. Mayhew hauled 4 [?] loads for the boys with his truck. Jim plowed in his new ground this evening. He plowed some in the garden and planted some things in the garden. Josie got dinner. She baked a cake. Henry & Edna went to school. This evening Josie & the children and I went to Marvins. I cut some turnip greens. Henry went to Aunt Kates after some peas.

A clear cool day. Ben plowed for Mr Mayhew. Jim planted some things in the garden. Owen plowed this evening. Josie & I done one thing an other all day. I went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. Carrie made Hazels hat last night. it is very pretty I think. Josie baked a cake and I killed a chicken for Sundays dinner. Mrs Owen sent us some light bread for supper. It is very nice.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain tonight. Ben & Jim planted potatoes this morning. This evening Ben went to Cedar Forest for some corn that Mrs Car gave him. Jim worked at home. Tonight Jim went to Marvins. Josie washed a big washing. Kate come a few minutes. She wanted some eggs to set. Josie and all the kids and I went to Carries a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. The surveyer was on his job today.

A clear windy day. Jim planted some things in the garden. Ben plowed all day. Henry cut his foot & and Reese steped on a nail. I hope they wont get bad off much. Mabel is some better off to day. We had fish from the river for breakfast. Josie sewed some. I got breakfast and dinner this evening. I went to Marvins a few minutes. Jim brought a little pig for us to feed up and try to make a hog.

A good morning. A very windy evening. Jim & Owen plowed all day. Ben cleaned up the land. Josie got dinner. This evening she cut out a dress and made it finished ready to wear. I washed some and planted some flowers that Cordie gave me. Mollie Reynolds come this morning and got a bucket of milk and some lillie of the valey for Reubin. I went to Carries a few minutes. 9:30 oclock

A clear cool day. Ben & Owen planted corn. Jim plowed in the new ground. Josie got dinner. She went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. I got breakfast this morning and milked the cows and fed the chickens. Worked a little in the garden then went to Kate Harveys and eat dinner then Kate & I went to Mags and staid a while then come home and fed the chickens then went to the plant bed for salit [?] milked.

A cloudy day and a little rain. Jim & Ben planted corn. Josie staid at home and done the work. She fixed me a lunch. I gave her 25 cts. Mrs Dews & Terrow [?] went to the island. They carried me and Elsie Scruggs. I am so glad that she let me go. Ben carried me to Mr Dewss. Kate come and staid a few minutes. Am sorry but cant helpe it now. I have bin a sleep.

A good day. Ben & and Mr Owen planted corn this evening. This morning Ben went to Gretna to meet Jim. They got home about 2 oclock in the evening. Jim worked in the garden. I tried to stop the chickens out of the garden. Josie got dinner. We both went to Marvins this evening. Jim has gone up there tonight. 9 oclock

A clear cool day. There was frost this morning. Enough to bite tender things. The boys finished hilling [?] up Jims new ground. Jim planted some potato slips this evening. Josie got dinner. I ironed this morning. This evening I killed two chickens and churned the[n] went to Marvins. Josie and children went to Marvins. 8 oclock

Cloudy but no rain to do any good. The men folks worked on their tobacco land. Josie done a big washing by twelve oclock. I got dinner. Henry kept Mabel. Josie sewed some this evening. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie and I wrote a letter and the carrier did not take them up. 8 oclock Ben & Jim planted water mellon seed to day.

A rainy morning. We were all so glad. Quit raining and they planted tobacco. Irvin Hardey helped them for plants. I got breakfast & milked and fed the chickens then churned and fixed up the butter. Josie & I got dinner. I cooked some onions. The first we have cooked this year. I drawed plants all the evening. 9 oclock

A good day. The boys planted some tobacco today and plowed some. Josie and I got dinner. I churned this evening. I went to Marvins. Got some bean seed and some butter beans. I planted the beans and gave the butter beans to Mrs Owen. Today is Lizzie Bennetts birth day. Henry & Edna droped plants. Henry pulled off my shoes tonight for me. 9 oclock

A rainy morning. Did not rain long. The boys planted a little tobacco then fixed land to plant. Mr Owen went to George Blairs to buy corn. Did not get any. Josie ironed all the morning. I cooked some onions and made a bread pudding, fried ham, and made bread & coffee. Josie planted some beans this evening. I did not do any thing much. Edna and I planted 180 potato slips. My lady cow has bin sick all day.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain this evening. The men finished putting in guano to day. Josie staid at home all day. Carrie and Kate come a little while this evening. I went to George Blairs this evening. They had a quilt in. I quilted some. They were as nice to me as they could be. They sent me home. George Jr. brought me. I saw Mr Hutcherson. He was friendly as usual. I planted some sunflower seed to day. 9 oclock

A little rain this morning. Ben & Jim drawed & planted tobacco all day. I drawed plants this evening. Mrs Owen helped me. Josie and the children Franklin & Mabel went to Marvins a little while. All a bed now. 9 20 oclock

A cloudy day and a little rain. The boys finished planting Bens tobacco this morning. Ben went to Mount Airy this morning. Grace & Effie Brumfield come and eat dinner with us. They walked. Ben carried them home. He bought a hay stack from Ollie Kellie. He is to pay $40.00 for it. Josie baked a cake. We killed two chickens for dinner. Carrie & the children come a little while. Marvin got a new car to day and I am glad. Jim planted some white beans this evening.

A good day. We need rain so bad. Ben & Mr Owen hauled a stack of hay from Odie Kellies. Jim and Henry replanted corn. Josie ironed and got dinner. Marvin carried Reese & Edna and I to Banister River. Ben & family come after us. We caugh a few fish. Carrie washed to day. 9 10 oclock

A rainy morning and that was what we needed. The boys planted some tobacco. Kate & Irvin Harvey come after plants. They were here for dinner. They got a few plants and went home. We had cabbage for dinner. Ben carried my heifer to Reynolds. Ben & Jim brought Bell home from Mr Laynes. Josie made Ben a shirt to day. I ironed some. I thined my beets and parsnips to day. 9:15 oclock The bees swarmed to day.

A good day. Jim & Ben and Henry worked tobacco and planted potato slips. Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight to the Lodge. Josie ironed all the morning. Bathed and dressed the children. I got breakfast and milked the cows fed the chickens then I went to Mr Mayhews and Mr Edmons s for potatoe slips. Got a few at both places. Beatrice and Dewie come down here this evening. They said that the baby was sick.

A good day. There was a little rain this morning and this evening but not enough to do any good. The men folks worked on their tobacco. Josie got dinner. She had snaps and potatoes. I planted some butter beans and thined some corn. Josie and the children went to Marvins a few minutes. While she was gone two of the Doss children came and wanted to see Josie a bout cutting out some sewing.

Rain the most of the day. Ben replanted tobacco and Marvin replanted all day. Josie made Edna a dress. I got most of the dinner. We had cabbage. I enjoyed them. I planted a few butter beans then went to Marvins. Carrie was have a time keeping the boys in from the rain. 8 oclock Mrs Short is at Mr Owens tonight.

Foggy this morning but no rain today. Ben & Jim got sticks a gain today. Josie got dinner. Charles & Irvin Harvey come here on a car. Charles worked on it all the morning. Would not stay to dinner. Charles come this eve and carried Evylin to Mr Moses to a party. I planted some pepper plants and peas. I went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. Carrie was canning berries. I picked a bucketful and canned them.

A good day. Ben plowed under rye. Jim plowed some in the garden and planted potatoes & onions. Josie and I finished the quilting. Josie milked. The cow kicked her and hurt her leg. Ben milked that cow tonight.

I finished two of Josies quilts this evening. Josie made Mable some drawers this evening. Mabel has cried a lot today. I think that something hurts her. Norman Booker traded horses today.

Three of the children went to school.

A good day. Jim worked the Garden this morning Ben planted some mellons then went to the School House to Speakin [crossed out] Speaking. Ben eat Dinner at Johnsons to day was [Rauly?] Birth day he eat Dinner at Home he was 22 years olde today. Josie was Sick last night. She got up and got Breakfast. I have bin up all day but did as little as I could. heard today that Marvin is sick hope he may Soon be well I want to See them all so bad. The Boys [commenced?] to plant corn this evening. I hope the Weather will stay good a while.

A good day. the Boys planted corn all day. Irvin Hervey was here today. he eat Dinner here. he come [fo?] Seed corn. Denia come to see us today I was glad to see her. I got a letter from Carrie today. Marvin [wry?] out trying to work. Josie [ironed?] and starched today will have a big ironing to morrow. I got Dinner went to the plant seed for [salit?]. Henry & Edna went to School then Henry & Franklin went to the store got home at dark. Henry brought a jug of [ail?] I was glad he got it.

Rainy morning. quit about twelve Ben + Jim planted some tobacco the children choped ptants and Henry planted some carie Sent a piece of goods to make Mabel a chess. Kate + Joace come This evening on Lees buggy I was glad that they come Fannie made Edna a dress today Farmie milk the red cow this morning + tonight that is a gmea help to one she coasties most of the dishes Jose has begin wh doing today oft that she could get well again
