A good day. The best that we have had this year. The boys finished sawing wood for Marvin this morning then put on the plant bed cloths. Jim Emerson passed here to day. Henry & Edna went to school to day. I got dinner. Josie ironed. This evening we all went to Carries a while. I come by the turnip patch & cut some sallet for dinner to morrow. It looks like rain tonight. I do hope it wont rain.

Monday, March 22, 1920

A beautiful day. Ben split wood at the wood pile. He fixed up the clothesline and the garden palings. Jim come home just at night. He come with Odie Kelly from Gretna. Josie washed and then went to Carries. I went to Carries two. Caried some butter for Kate Harvey. I come by the turnip patch and cut some salit. Tonight the boys & Marvin has gone to Strait Stone. There is a light in the north tonight.

Tuesday, March 23, 1920

A good day. Ben & Jim raked their new ground & pulled a few stumps. Josie got dinner. I went down the branch & caught a little fish. Carrie & the children come a little while. Carried washed today. I sent a letter to Golde. Hope he will get it. I got a letter from John today. He is well. Jim Emerson & Lucius Graveley passed here to day. Lucius said he expected to start for NC this evening.

Thursday, March 25, 1920

A good day. Jim plowed in the new ground. Mr Owen plowed with two horses. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked and churned. I made two pots of soup. I cut some salit for tomorrow. Carie come & cut some for her self. I cut Kate a mess & Reese carried it to her. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben borrowed John Hutchersons boots & ditched some this evening. Tonight Ben & Jim & Marvin has all gone to Strait Stone.

Monday, March 29, 1920

A good day. The land is so wet that they cant plow. Ben worked on a closet for Owen. Jim went to Clide Reynolds with potatoes that he had solde to Clide. Josie got dinner. I picked over some onions. Carrie & the children come a while this evening. Josie & Carrie cut some salit for dinner tomorrow. Ben & Marvin went to Strait Stone this evening to see Thomson a bout the road. Ben never got back until after 9 oclock.

A good day. Ben helped rais a barn at George Blairs. Jim worked at home. Josie washed. She has had the tooth ache all day. I staid with the baby. This evening I went to Carries a little while. Tonight Janie Gravely & Hellen Brumfield and Franny Emerson are here to stay all night. Orval Gravely & Charley Harvey and Miss Smith & Miss Carter will stay until bed time. I will be glad when they brake up.

A good day. Jim & Owen plowed this evening. Owen went to the mill this morning. Ben ditched some today. Josie has had the tooth ache all day. Carrie & the children come a little while this evening. All they talk is good roads. Denia sent me some seed beans. Cordie sent me some gourd seed. The children went to school. I sowed some on a quilt.

A rainy morning and cloudy all day. Ben started to Chatham. Got as far a Renan. Met up with Thomson and let him talk them out of going. This evening Jim & Ben worked on the hen house. Marvin & William helped them put up the slats [?] Josie has bin suffering all day with toothache. Carrie come here a few minutes this evening. I went home with her. Come by and cut some salit. I finished a quilt that I had been workin on. The children did not go to school.

A rainy morning & rainy again tonight. Ben & Jim finished the hen house. I cut salit this morning. Henry went to school to day. Virginia Wooding played with Edna this evening. I went to Carrie this evening and got some eggs to set my hens. Tonight Effie & [?] They had an entertainment at the church to night. I would of bin glad to go but the roads is so bad that you cant run a car. 9 oclock

A good day. Cloudy this evening. Ben & Jim finished cleaning up the logs that come out of the olde house. Jim made a cage for chickens. Ben ditched. Irvin Harvey brought his calf here to pasture. Kate come a few minutes. Carrie come with her. We all went to the turnip patch. Josie carried little Mabel. The other children went to Marvins. My clock has stoped running.

Sunday, April 4, 1920

A cloudy bad day. Some rain. Jim and Ben and Marvin rambled a round most of the day. A bout two oclock this morning George Blair called up Ben. Said Hezzie [?] Andersons horse had fell in the branch. Jim & Ben went to help him. The horse had got out. Was not hurt much. Johnson & Reubin Reynolds passed here with a calf that had come off down this way. Carrie & the children come a while. Ula and Harald Mayhew come & played with the children all the evening. Josie & I got dinner. We had a chicken for dinner.

A clear colde windy day. Ben went with Johnson and Mollie and Christena to Danville. Jim and Owen plowed this evening. Josie washed this morning. I staid with Franklin & Mabel. Roy & Hazel Smith come and got some flowers this evening. Carrie & the children come a few minutes. Heard to night that the guano is at the Depot. Ben has gone to Mr Mayhews to see if he wont haul for them. Jim has gone to Marvins. Henry & Edna went to school. Dr [?] come over there.

A clear cool day. Ben plowed for Mr Mayhew. Jim planted some things in the garden. Owen plowed this evening. Josie & I done one thing an other all day. I went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. Carrie made Hazels hat last night. it is very pretty I think. Josie baked a cake and I killed a chicken for Sundays dinner. Mrs Owen sent us some light bread for supper. It is very nice.

A beautiful day. There was a big frost this morning. Ben and family went to Jim Powers. I went to George Blairs. Ernest & Lottie was there. The girls went to Sunday School. Otho & was there. Denia had a nice dinner. Jim eat at Carries this evening. Mr John Smith & his wife Owen and wife & [?]was at Marvins. Kate Harvey and Johnson Reynolds was there two. I come by. Ben & Josie was at home when I got home. Josie got supper.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain tonight. Ben & Jim planted potatoes this morning. This evening Ben went to Cedar Forest for some corn that Mrs Car gave him. Jim worked at home. Tonight Jim went to Marvins. Josie washed a big washing. Kate come a few minutes. She wanted some eggs to set. Josie and all the kids and I went to Carries a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. The surveyer was on his job today.

A colde windy day. Jim and Ben & Marvin went to Strait Stone this morning. This evening Ben & Marvin went to Chatham. Jim cut wood for Kate. Carrie & the children come down here. Josie baked a cake for Franklins birth day. I think the children enjoyed it. Mollie come a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie & I have not done anything in the way of settled work. Nursed [?]& cooked a little. Franklin is four years olde today.

A good day. Jim & Ben and Owen hauled out the straw and put it on the land. Major Rison come here to day. Josie got dinner and ironed what time she could. The school closed today. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie & Carrie made Edna a hat. They embrodier it some. I think it is pretty. I got my check for the interest on my Liberty Bonds.

A cloudy morning and clear this evening. Ben went to Chatham. The road question was decided to day. Carrie & the children spent the day with us. Ben & Marvin and Jim was in Chatham. Mr Owen plowed this evening. Ben brought some fish home tonight. I killed a chicken today. Mabel has bin sick all day. Jim & Ben [word omitted][?]Marvin to night.

Thursday, April 22, 1920

A beautiful day. The men plowed all day today. Mabel is sick. I went off fishing. Did not catch anything much. I bought 7 pounds of fish. Gave Carrie a part of them. Grace carried me. I was glad to go but hated to leave the sick baby and Josie. I know I will not go much more any way. Mollie was here this evening and Carrie was here a few minutes today. I am always troubled a bout some thing. Now it is the little babe. I do hope she will soon get well.

A good day. Cloudy tonight. All of us stayed at home all day except Ben. He carried Mr Feris and an other man over to [?]. Hugh & Aubra Brumfield come and staid with Henry today. Marvin and family was here this evening. Kate & Charley Harvey was here a little while this evening. Josie and [I] got dinner. We cooked the last sweet potatoes that we had.

A good morning. A very windy evening. Jim & Owen plowed all day. Ben cleaned up the land. Josie got dinner. This evening she cut out a dress and made it finished ready to wear. I washed some and planted some flowers that Cordie gave me. Mollie Reynolds come this morning and got a bucket of milk and some lillie of the valey for Reubin. I went to Carries a few minutes. 9:30 oclock

A good day. Ben and faimily went to Mr Jim Powers. Mrs Car and Mr Mealer [?] was there. Jim and I went to Marvins. Carrie had a nice dinner. Roast chicken and cocoanut pies. Jim & Marvin rambled a round the plantation all day.

Cloudy this morning. Clear this evening. The men folks plowed & harrowed on their land all day. Josie sewed a little and helped get dinner. I went to Mr Owens. Mrs Dews & Mrs. Scruggs was there. We had a pleasant evening. Carrie come here a few minutes. I would of bin glad if I had bin at home.

A good day. Jim & Ben went to Long Island for guano. Ben & Henry went a gain this evening. Got home a bout 10 oclock at night. Owen plowed. Josie finished Edna dress. I got dinner. Carrie and her little children come a little while. Carrie washed to day. Ben got 100 of sugar from Thomson. Paid 22 cts per pound. That is the highest that I ever paid for shugar.

A cloudy day and a little rain. Jim & Ben planted corn. Josie staid at home and done the work. She fixed me a lunch. I gave her 25 cts. Mrs Dews & Terrow [?] went to the island. They carried me and Elsie Scruggs. I am so glad that she let me go. Ben carried me to Mr Dewss. Kate come and staid a few minutes. Am sorry but cant helpe it now. I have bin a sleep.

Rain this morning and a little this evening. Clear tonight. Ben carried Jim to Chatham. Carried caned fruit and lard. Ben get home before dark. Josie ironed some and got dinner. I milked and churned and went to the plant bed for salit. I went to Carries a few minutes this evening. Edna & Franklin went to Mr. Edmonds to play with Franklin Edmond.

A beautiful day. Ben and family went to Rob Hubbards. They brought back a nice mess of fish. We cooked them tonight. I went to Marvins and eat dinner. Carrie had fried chicken, the first that she had this spring. She had cherrie pies. I did enjoy my dinner.

A cloudy day and rain tonight. Ben and Jim and Owen fixed some of Bens tobacco land ready to plant today. Josie got dinner and ironed some this morning. Carrie come down here this evening. They cut out a dress for me and got it nearly ready to wear. I went to Johnson Reynols this morning. Mrs Cook & Mrs Lumpkin was there. Mrs Cook has a cut foot. The surveyer run the line for the road today.

A cloudy day. No rain. The boys worked on tobacco land all day. We had a shower last night. It was badly needed. Josie ironed most of the morning. She made pies for dinner. This evening Marvin carried Josie and three children and Carrie and three children to the school house. Dr. Caton and his assistants were there to exzamine the children. There was a crowd to be examined.

A good day. Very cool. The men worked on the tobacco land all day except Ben. He went to Johnson Reynolds and paid for the guano and got a bushel of wheat and a bushel of cracked peas for the chickens and three bushels of peas to sow. Josie got dinner this evening. She went to Mr Owens. I washed a little this morning and went to Marvins a few minutes. Kate Harvey was there and Charles. He carried his mother home. 9 oclock
