A good day. Rain tonight. The folks cut tobacco here this evening. Nellie and Evelyn got dinner. I went to Johnson Reynols and spent the day. Clifton and family was there and Miss Georgie Via Jane Reynols aunt. She is a cripple but she is grand. So cheerful and industrious. She sewed nearly all the time I was there. Clifton come after me and Christenia brought me home. Clifton carried Henry home. At least he went to Tim Bennetts on his way home. I am glad to see Miss Via. I had hear about her. Well I wish all of the people well.
A good day. They moved and cut tobacco all day. I got dinner. Nellie sewed for the baby. This evening I went to Kate Harveys. Pearl Wiggington was there. They were making Virginia a dress. Thomas Thomson was hurt Sunday in an automobile and is in the hospitle. Ervin finished cutting tobacco today Mollie Reynols come to see us yesterday. I was glad that she come. Mr and Mrs Kent carried me as far as Renan. I was glad of the ride. I spent a pleasant night with Kate. I certainly do hate for to have to leave the place where she is. She is well fixed.
A good day. Jim staid at the barn all day and kept up the fire. Ben carried all the children to Strait Stone to preaching. Lawson and [Lora?] Emerson come with them home. They are nice children. We are glad for them to come here. Ben has bin at worke on his tobacco all the evening. He is yellowing his tobacco. Some thing killed a chicken here last night. We think it was a possome. Hope some on will soon catch it. I went to Mr. Bookers and gathered some snaps and picked some peas. Edna and Lora Emerson went to the school house this evening.
A good day. Ben was at the barn until twelve today. Jim staid this evening. Ben carried Edna and Franklin and Mabel and I to White Falls. I caught a few fish. Ben and the children went sloe hunting. They found a bout a half gallon. We had a good evening. I sliped on a rock and got my clothes wet. Did not hurt me much. Nellie ironed some for Evylin this evening. Evylin went to the barn and carried the baby. I got supper. Nellie milked.
A good day. Henry fired the barns all day. Ben mowed the peas. Jim and John sawed some wood. I got dinner. I fried two chickens and had potatoes sweet and Irish. I went to Mr. Bookers. They was not at home. I got some snaps any way. I got a letter from Julia Furgerson. She was getting on ok. Hear tonight that Thomas Thomson is able to work a gain. His father went to see him. I let the three little children carrie a hen a peice to the pear patch this evening.
A good dasy. Ben mowed today. Henry staid at the barn. Jim and John Ward sawed some wood in the woods. Nellie ironed some. Evylin has not felt well today. I got dinner. Reuban Reynols and Edwin Bumfield come here tonight. Are here now ten oclock. I wrote to Carrie today, I am anxious to hear from them. Ben Shotwell and Reynols come here today. They wanted to know some a bout how much tobacco they tended this year. I have shell a half gallon of peas for tomorrow.
A good day. They finished cutting tobacco.The tobacco that was planted the first of July. Johnson Reynols put some in the barn with them. Cardie and Nettie Hendrix and Louise the[y] come and went back this morning. Nellie and I got dinner. We cooked turnip salit and corn bread. We did enjoy it. Louise and Herbert and Margaret Hutcherson come and played with the children a while. Ben and Henry has gone hunting tonight. Evylin is at the [kitchen?] tonight. Said she was going to wash [?]. I went to Mr. Booker's for snaps this evening.
A good day. We had a very hard rain last ight a bout midnight. Claud
Fitch come to see his wife and baby last night. He was as wet as he could be when he got here.
Evylin and Claud and Henry went to Renan School building today. Claud went a way today. Ben carried him to the Island. Three of the children and Evylin went with him. Jim fired the tobacco some while they were gone.
A good day. Ben worked on his tobacco all day. Jim was making a hog pen. Nellie got dinner. The children and I pulled grass out of the turnip patch. We finished that job. Carrie and the chldren brought Janie home and come to see us a little while. I come home with them. Had a good trip. The road is awful from Gretna to Marvins. Hope they will work it soon before I go home.
A good day. Marvin Smith cut corn. The children went to school. Carrie fixed to wash. Before she commence Mrs McLaulin come to spend the day. She had her little boy with her. He is a fine little fellow. When she went home Carrie and I walked with her nearly home. It is not far but a steep hill to clime. I am very glad that Carrie has her for a neighbor. She seems to be a fine woman. Carrie had snaps and butter beans and sweet potatoes and cake. I have set a round today and rested. Would like to know what they are doing at home.
A good day. I am at Marvins. Carrie washed this morning. I got dinner. I cooked butter beans, baked sweet potatoes, fried chicken,fried apples. This evening after school Reese carried his mother and all of the children and I to Tim Bennetts. Lizzie and Alma had their hands full. They had three of Olas children to take care of. Ola has a new baby born the 19 of Sept. Alma had a very bad colde. I hope she may soon get well. We made the trip o.k. I dreaded the road but Reese drove it alright.
A good day. We all stayed at home except the children. They went to school. Marvin helped Mr. Pickenel cut tobacco and moved some tobacco. Reese carried me to Gretna this morning before he went to school. I bought some gingham. Carrie made me three aprons and a pettie coat. I am proud of them. Some of the children have very bad colds. I helped Carrie what I could today. Gathered some butter beans and shelled them.
A good day. I come home from Marvin Smiths. Carrie and all the children come with me. Kate Harvey come with us home. I was glad to have them come. We found them well and doing well. The boys had built a hog house while I was gone. Lee come here at dinner time. He had bin to dinner. Ben went with him home to help write up the books. They will have to be turned in Monday. Nellie went with Carrie home. She was going to Chatham. I do hope they got home safe. Would be glad to know. The teachers had a teachers meeting today so we had the children at home all day.
A good day. Jim and John cut corn. Ben plowed. Mrs Carr and Mrs Powers and Mrs Hubbard come to see us today. Lawson Power brought them. We killed chickens for dinner. Ben sent for the children. Lawson went for them. I sent to Mr Bookers for sugar and butter. The baby is not so well tonight. Mrs Carr is with us tonight.
A good day. Ben and John Ward plowed. Jim set up corn by him self. Evylin washed. Nellie nursed. I got dinner and churned. The children went to school. Late this evening Ben and I and three childred went to Strait Stone. We had got out of several things and had to have them. Ben and Henry and George Blair and Lawson Emerson has gone hunting tonight. Mrs Carr is here tonight. We are glad to have her as log as she will stay.
A good day. Cool and clear. Ben and John plowed. Jim set up corn until he finished. This evening Ben carried Mabel and I to White Falls. I fished. Did not catch any thing worth haveing. They would not bite much. Nellie ironed for her self and Evylin. I got dinner. Mrs Car churned. The children went to school. Lelia Ward went to Level Run today. John brought the clothes home this morning.
A good day. Ben plowed until twelve. Jim plowed all day. Ben carried Evylin to Gretna this evening. I went with them. I did not buy much. Money is [true?] scarce. I saw Carrie and Mrs McLaut[ghl?]in and several others that I was glad to see. Nellie has the care of Evylins baby tonight. Evylin will take the train for Lynchburg in the morning. She will stay at Lenias tonight. I washed a little this morning. Washed the schoolhouse curtains. Edna brought them in tonight. I brought two pounds of cheese this evening.
A good day. Ben commenced to [planting] wheat this morning. Jim stripped tobacco. The children went to school. I got dinner. Nellie kept Elain and helped what she could. She got supper. I went to see Lottie Craddock. She has a nice baby. The have not named him yet. Mabel done fine while she was there. She did not like to walk. Mr John Tucker ask us to ride on his truck. I was glad of it. Ben carried us nearly there be fore he commenced worke after dinner. I rocked Mabel to sleep tonight. Today is John Brumfields birth day. The children has come up from the dining room.
A clear day. I was at home and cooked breakfast. Then I dressed and Christenia Reynols come for me on their big car. She carried the children as far as her house. Then they went to school. Then Mrs Owen drove the car as far as Gretna. Then Posie Reynols drove for us. Carried us to Danville. We eat dinner at Howard Fergersons. Julia gave us a good dinner. Than we went to the fair grounds. Saw lots of things. Staid unitl after nine o clock. We got a sand witch an a cup of coffee on the grounds. Then we come to Fergersons and eat a snack and come to Johnson Reynols. None of it cost me any thing. Mollie and Posie was good to me. I want to be thankful.
A good day. I am at Reynols this morning. Christina brough me home this morning. Found them all well. I milked after I come home. I churned and got dinner. Jim stripped tobacco. Henry rolled wheat land a while. Ben shod the horses. Mr. Booker and two children and Miss Louease[?] Booker come this evening. I was glad that they come. Miss Booker played on the piano a little. Ben and the three children went to Rob Hubbands this evening and will stay all night. They carried the dog with then. Ben wanted to go hunting. Henry went to Strait Stone. I hope nothing bad will happen to him.
A good day. There was no one at home this morning of Bens family. Henry spent the night with Lawson Emerson. Ben and the other children was at Rob Hubbands. I got breakfast and dinner. Lelia Ward come and helped some this morning. Lawson Emerson was here for dinner. Ben and the children come a bout sundown. Herny went to preaching tonight. I am disapointed that Carrie and family did not come. Hope there is not any thing the matter.
A good day. The men folks moved some tobacco this morning. This evening Jim graded some. They have gone to tie it up. Tonight Thomas Brumfield come to spend the night. He has gone with them to the barn. Ben carried all the children and I to Mr. Jessie Worsham's pond. I fished. None of the others did not try to catch any thing. I caught 9 fish. One a very nice one. Nellie staid at home with the little baby. She expects to go to Lynchburg in the morning and carrie the baby.
A good day. Thomas Brumfield is here. He come yesterday. Ben carried Nellie and Elain to Gretna this morning. They were going to Lynchburg to meet Evylin and Claud. I do hope that they got on o.k. Lee and Ben and Hugh went to Smiths[sic] Mountain today. Henry went to the baptizing at Camp Branch Bridge. Carrie and all of the children come and Kate come. I was very glad that they come. Jim went to Mr Ned Walkers. He is sick but is felling better today. Jim and Ben was late getting home to night.
A good day. Ben and Jim staid at home all the morning. This evening Ben carried the children to Jim Powers. Mrs. Car was there. I was glad for them to go. I went to George Blains. Claude Hendricks and family was there. Earl Bennett and family was there. Miss Jenny Anderson was there. I was glad to see them all. Henry has bin rideing a round with Jo Edmons the most of the day. They have gone to Strait Stone tonight. Jim crated Evylins cradle today. The children has bad colds. I hope that they may get well soon.
I was mending Henrys coat this morning when Jim come to the house and said that Johnson and Mollie was going to [John?] Craddocks and that I could go with them. I got a snack to eat and got Mabel and my self ready. Ben carried us to Reynolds?]. Johnson went with us. We got some honey and got home by dark.
A colde morning. A killing frost. The men stripped tobacco all day. The children went to school. Edna went to Kate Harveys to stay tonight. I hope she may have a good time. Mr Short brought some beef here today. I bought 60 pounds at 12 cts.

A cloudy colde day. Ben went for Thomas Brumfield. He painted the roof of the house. Ben helped him some. Ben carried Thomas to Gretna this evening. We paid 12 1/2 dollars to get the house roof painted. Jim graded tobacco. John Ward tied. He brough [sic] several gaskets full of potatoes to the house and put them up. I got dinner and played with Mabel the most of the evening. Edna is at home. I was glad to see her back. Jim and Ben has colds and coughs. I hope they may be well soon.

Things sold low. Effie Brumfield carried her mother to Levelrun store and Hugh and I to Mr. Worshams pond. I did not catch a fish. Effie and Hugh caught five. We stoped at Level Run store. Effie and Hugh patched a tire. The children staid at the barn all the evening. Ben and Henry has gone a hunting tonight.
A cloudy morning. Rain all evening. Jim and I and the little children staid at home all day. Lelia come this morning and cleaned up the dishes for me. I got dinner. Ben and Henry went to Strait Stone to preaching. Come home and eat dinner. Then went to Lee Brumfields and spent the evening. The children has had a good day playing. I have wrote Carrie a letter to night. I had planed to go up there this evening but it rained so we could not go.
A cloudy morning and some rain. I think it rained most all night. The men stripped tobacco. The children went to school. Joe Edmons brought them home. I was glad for them. I cut three pair of drawers for Mabel and made one. They are two large for her. I have bin thinking of Kate to day. It was so rough that Ben could not haul a load for her. I hate so bad for her to have to leave the neighborhood. I had a letter from Carrie today. Was glad to hear but sorry that the children are sick.
