A fairly good day. Ben hauled wood most of the day worked at something all day. Josie is feeling some better to day. She sewed some. I got dinner. Josie got supper. The first day that we have had three meals this year. I went to Marvin_s this evening. Kate Harvey was there making Carrie a dress. I commenced to knit a pair of wristlets for Charley Harvey. I have bin at work on an apron to night. I intend to give it to one of Hattie Gilberts children.

A good day. Ben and faimily went to Mr Jim Powers. Mrs Car and Mr Mealer [?] was there. Jim and I went to Marvins. Carrie had a nice dinner. Roast chicken and cocoanut pies. Jim & Marvin rambled a round the plantation all day.

A good day. The men worked on their tobacco land. Josie staid at home and got dinner. This evening she went to Marvins. Marvin let Reese thak [take] me fishing. We went to Mr Jessie Worshams pond. Did not catch any thing. Come to the creek and fished a while. Did not catch any thing. I bought 10 pounds of sugar from Oscar Booker. Paid 30 cts a bushel of meal for $2.25. 9 oclock

A good day. Very warm. Ben & Jim finished laying by Bens tobacco. Josie got dinner and ironed some then went to Marvins. Reese & Henry and I went to White Falls. I caught a few fish. The river was mudy. I brought home a bushel of meal. Carrie and I togather sold 8 doz eggs at 35 cts per doz. All of us are reason able well. I hope I am thanksful.

A rainy day. The boys pulled some leaves and got wet. Josie went to see the Owen baby. This morning Nellie made some preserves. I caned three cans of peaches and made some preserves. Evylin went to see Virginia this morning. Edna went to Marvins and got some butter and meal. We had snaps and corn and stewed & raw tomatoes, peaches and cream for dinner. I do hope it is going to clear up now. 8:30 oclock

A rainy bad day very colde. We all have bin at home all day. Had a lonesome day. That is I have bin lonely. I miss Carrie and family so much. We crowed in three meals. I have wrote to Carrie to night. That is next thing to seeing her. I would be glad to see all the children and grand children and great grand children. I hope to see them some time a gain. Some of dont come to see me. I excuse them. They dont know or care.

A bad day. There was rain snow and hail last night and this morning. We all had to stay at home and no one come. There is no one passin or very little. We had three meals. For dinner we had caned pork. It was fine. Josie bathed Mabel & Franklin & Edna bathed herself. Henry read most of the day,

A rainy Day. Josie carried Henry and Edna to school. She drove Jake. She come by the store. I got a bushel of meal and paid [Hulebard?] what we owed him. The men could not do much today. Ben killed three crows. Josie and I got a snack for dinner. Josie made Mabel a pair of drawers. I worked the button holes in them. I sewed a little on any guilt did not get it done.

A good day we had a shower The men planked some tobacco this evening. Josie has bin suffering all day today. Fannie ironed some of the clothes and starched the others I got up the turkeys. I sent and got a half bushel of meal from Jessie Hutchens I was glad to get it. I finished plantting potatoe slips this morning. I am so glad I did. Fannie helped me milk tonight. She got supper She is washing dishes tonight Josie [_orped?] them She would not let [mms came?]

A good day. We had a good rain last night. Jim and Ben and Henry pulled the weeds from among peas. They helped Norman Booker load on some logs to carrie to the Saw Mill. This evening Ben carried his can to Gretna. She was going to Lynchburg. I went with them. We brought bread and ship stuff and sugar meal. We had a good trip. Nellie and Mrs Trent had the work done. Mrs Trent milked for one. I am glad of their being so good to me. Josie has sit on the porch [some?] today.

A good day. We eat three meals to day. Ben commenced to strip tobacco this morning. Henry went hunting & to the store this morning.

Mrs Car did not eat any breakfast this morning.

Josie is very bad off.

The children are at the dining room trying to play the fiddle & banjo.

I have bein very busy to day no one to help me except what Edna does. She brought all the water for tonight and wiped the dishes for me.

Well I have commenced in my new book and hope I may live to finis[h] it.

A cloudy day. Ben and Jim put up wire all day fencing in a pasture. John Ward went to the mill with corn. He got his grinding done. I was glad to get some meal. I have bin lone some today for some one to talk to. The baby has bin good today. She slept some this evening. The other children went to school. They got in wood and got water and milked the cows and got supper.

A cool windy day. Frost this morning , enough to kill some things. The men sawed wood here today. Good stove wood. Heard today that Claud Edmons killed the dog. Heard from Marvins Carrie[?] come home yesterday. The baby is no better. Solde my cow that I called Spot for $35[?]. Ben and Henry went to Gretna today. Ben bought meal and brand and sugar. I coud of went but the wind blowed so hard that I did not want to go. I want to see all of the children but can't.

Monday, June 25, 1923

A good day. No rain yet. Jim and Ben hauled up the wheat and stacked and Jim got up some oats. Late this evening Ben went to Cedar Forest. He carried the three least children and I. We bought two bushels of meal from George Hutchenson. Paid #2:20 cts for it. We carried 6 dozen eggs to Thomsons. Ben went to Jim Powers and staid a little while. Tonight when I got ready to write gathered up my things to write I turned the ink over in my lap and spill a [pon? or upon] of it. Edna got me a pan of water. I washed all of it out that I could.

A very windy day and hard on the growing things. Jim and Ben finished getting up the oats. Ben mowed some. Two men come to see the boys today. Candidates. The county is full of men wanting office. No one come to see us today. I get so lone some for some one to talk to. I sent Edna to Mrs. Bookers with some meal an dcoffee that I had roasted. [Carrol?] was sick. I hope he may get well soon. I sent the clothes to Lelia by John.

A very good day. Jim and Ben worked on tobacco. I got Ben to go to Renan and pay my taxes. That bothered him some but I am glad that it was done. Henry and John Ward got up the sweet potatoes. We made a good crop. They should of bin got up sooner. I am sure they won't keep. The children has played out doors most of the day. The day has seemed long to me. I have bin busy all day. Cooked three meals and churned. Milked twice. Swept the yard some. Shucked a little corn and tied a little tobacco. I guess I had done a little of so many things [and?] the day seem long.

A good day. The men stripped tobacco most of the day. John Ward went to the mill with corn the first that has bin carried this fall. I am glad to get some new meal. The squirrel got out of his cage to day. Guess he wont be seen any more a bout here. Ben turned two opposomes loos today and gave John one. Henry got a letter from Julia Brumfield today. Mabel has bin sweet today. Lelia washed for us today. I wrote two letters today. Did not get any letters today. Hope we may hear from Nellie tomorrow.

A beautiful day. Warm for December. We have worked on the cleaning up after hog killing. Lelia ward and I cut up the lard and sausage. I dried up the lard. Ben and Jim ground the sausage. I seasoned it. Ben made little bags and Edna and Ben filled the sacks. Ben washed off the table and washed the dished[?]. Henry and Franklin went to the mill at Cedar Forest. Got some corn meal. John Ward washed the chidlins and cleaned the faces and feet and that was a great help. Ben helped me get supper. I was glad.
