Tuesday November 29, 1921

A good day. Ben and Jim shucked some corn and loaded Jims tobacco on John Hutcherson truck. John & Jim started to Danville. I hope they got there ok. This evening Ben & Marvin went to the school house and helped to put a pump in the well that has bin bored there. They staid late. The children come home with them. Josie had supper ready when they got home. I cut peices and sewed on my quilt most of the day. Hope to finish the squares tomorrow if I work on it. I wanted to go to Marvins this evening but would not leave Josie Mabel.

Wednesday December 7, 1921

A good day. Ben helped Mr Edmons kill hogs. Jim helped to grind sausag and carrie the lard to the spring then shucked some corn. This evening Jim & Ben helped to load the waggons for Marvin. They intend to move away tomorow. I hope they may have a good day. Josie and Nellie ground sausag and seasoned it and got dinner & supper. I staid at the wash house and dried up the lard. We made a good lot of lard. The children went to school. Oh how we all will miss Marvin and all of the family. I think it may be the best thing that he can do. Time will tell them that lives to see.

Sunday December 11, 1921

A good day. Jim & Ben gave the cows some corn stalks this morning. I got a snack for dinner. Josie dressed the children. We eat before twelve and went to Marvins. Marvin and the three boys brought William Gilbert to Mr Bookers and then come here. They would not eat dinner here. I went with them home. Ben and his folks went on Bens car. I come with Ben back. The children all done very well. Jim staid at home. He done several things. He had a good fire in the range and fire place and had brought water when we got home. Had turned the cow to the calf. We fixed supper and all eat. I am so glad that I got to see Carrie. She seems to be satisfied.

Monday December 12, 1921

A good day. Jim & Ben shucked a shock of corn and gave the stalk to the cows. Then they loaded up the car with Jims scrap meat and sausage, a few chickens and went to Chatham. I think they did fine. They attended to several things and got home before dark. I am very glad that they went. The roads are very good now. Josie scrubed some floors and got dinner. I went to George Blairs. Denia was not at home. She had gone to Altavista with Otho and Sallie. I would of bin glad to see her but I dont blame her. If it was me I think [?] go evry chance I could get. I spent a pleasant evening with the girls. The children went to school today.

Tuesday December 13, 1921

A cool windy day. Jim & Ben shucked some corn. The wind blowed so that they could hardly shuck. I boiled some hogs ears for dinner. Josie made bread & coffee. I put feathers in Josies new bed tick this morning. This evening I went to the store and bought a few things. I walked up there & back. I brought back 7 pounds 6 of coffee & one of soda. I went to see Kate Harvey a few minutes. She was busy fixing up after hog killing. I come by Mollies. They were very busy abought their land & sausage. I did not stay to bother them long. I have bin working on a quilt. Tonight little Mabel is up yet. I hear her talking. 8:30 oclock

Thursday December 15, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben went to Mr Edmons's to saw wood. Was there all day. Jim shucked corn. The Mormon preachers went a way early this morning. I am not sorry that they staid here last night. Josie ironed all the morning. I got dinner. This evening I went to Mr Bookers. Sallie & Isla Blair was there. Evry thing looked very nice up there but oh how I mis Marvin & Carrie. No one knows but my self. I have peiced on a quilt some tonight. Mabel has tried her self tonight and tried Josie. I am sorry for them both and cant them. Jim has a bad cough. I wish he could get well of it. The children went to school to day.

Friday December 16, 1921

A partly day. Jim & Ben hauled up some corn stalks this morning. This evening they cut wood for Norman Booker. Tonight Ben & Josie went to Strait Stone. Did not stay long. Mabel staid up until they come home. Marvin Smith come today. He eat dinner with us. Josie ironed most allday. I got dinner except make the biskit. Josie done that. I stewed pumpkin the most of the day. Lizzie Bennett and Lee Brumfield gave me a pumpkin. We did not make one this year. Eleck Gilbert hauled and put wood under shelter to day. I am glad of it. The children went to school.

Monday December 19, 1921

A good day. Jim and Ben shucked some corn and hauled stalks and put in the stable. Josie washed dishes and milked the cows. I went to Chatham with Johson & Mollie Reynols. Clack Hubbard and Christenia Reynols went with them also. I dont think any body bought much. They ask such prices for what they had to sell. Henry & Edna went to school. Franklin is not well. Virginia Harvey come here and Josie and Virginia made candy for to treat the school children on Wednesday. I had a good day. I met with several of my kind folks and acquaintances. I was so glad to go and every thing [?] of good. Alice Thomson was at Chatham.

Wednesday December 21, 1921

A good day. Jim hauled some chaff this morning. This evening he shucked corn. Ben worked on the dineing room floor this morning. This evening he went to Strait Stone. I went with him. Kate Harvey come this morning. Kate and I dressed 4 turkeys. One for Jim, one for Marvin, one for Josie, and one for Kate. This evening Marvin come and got his turkey and ham boiler. He had Hazel & Eva with him. I went with him as far as Reynols mail box and walked home. Mollie Reynols was not at home. Hattie Gilbert washed here today. The wind is blowing to night. I reckon they will all blow of the line. Heard today that Mrs Jessie Hutcherson has a son. There is a lot of travlins done today. The school closed today for holiday. Ben[?] has gone to the school house to night.

Thursday December 22, 1921

A colde day partly cloudy. Hailing and snowing tonight. Jim shucked some corn and toated stalks for the cows. Ben sawed wood at Kate Harveys. Brought the engine & saw home tonight. Ben went to Strait Stone tonight. He went for medicine for Mabel. She has a colde and is very hoarse. We are a fraid she will have the croup. Josie ironed today and worked on her cakes some. I got dinner. Denia Blair come a little while. I was glad that she come. Two of the Doss girls come a few minutes. They borrowed a last. Said they wanted to mend shoes. I am sorry that it is weathering. Did hope it would stay good until Jim could get home. We sent Kates turkey to her this morning.

A cloudy day. The boys could not do much work. Kate come down here. She wanted to see Jim & Ben on business.

Josie got dinner. She baked some nice corn bread.

I sowed on my quilt. I got breakfast and milked and fed the chickens and churned.

Tonight Jim & Ben has gone to Renan. The children went to school.9 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben finished getting up their corn, cleaned out the stables, and put leaves in them. To night Ben has gone to a dance at John Hutcherson's vacant house. Josie washed again this morning. The children went to school. I sewed on my quilt this evening. 9 oclock

A very bad day. Rained all day. The worst we have had yet. [?] could not do anything out of doors. They shucked a little corn. Josie got dinner. I churned and sewed on my quilt. The children went to school. They got wet comeing home. Ben met them at Mr. Hutcherson. [?] oclock

Cloudy this morning and a hard rain at twelve. Jim & Ben did not do much on account of weather. I helped with the work and milked. Josie made Franklin two pair of over alls. I went to Marvins. Carried Carries quilts home. Marvin was shuckin corn. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben commenced on a garden house for Mr Owen.

A very bad day. The wind is bowing tonight and the weather is colde. Jim helped Marvin shuck some corn. This evening Jim & Ben went to Renan. There was no one at the store. Josie got dinner and milked. I churned. I have not bin out much to day. All of us are as well as usual.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain tonight. Ben & Jim planted potatoes this morning. This evening Ben went to Cedar Forest for some corn that Mrs Car gave him. Jim worked at home. Tonight Jim went to Marvins. Josie washed a big washing. Kate come a few minutes. She wanted some eggs to set. Josie and all the kids and I went to Carries a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. The surveyer was on his job today.

A clear cool day. Ben & Owen planted corn. Jim plowed in the new ground. Josie got dinner. She went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. I got breakfast this morning and milked the cows and fed the chickens. Worked a little in the garden then went to Kate Harveys and eat dinner then Kate & I went to Mags and staid a while then come home and fed the chickens then went to the plant bed for salit [?] milked.

A cool clear day. Jim worked on his new ground. Ben worked on his corn land. Josie washed this morning. I got dinner. This evening I went to Mr Edmons. Mrs Edmons gave me 30 eggs. I put them under hens as soon as I could after getting home. Mrs Doss and three children come here. Ben has gone to Marvins. Dr. Owen is up there to examine them for insurance.

A cloudy day and a little rain. Jim & Ben planted corn. Josie staid at home and done the work. She fixed me a lunch. I gave her 25 cts. Mrs Dews & Terrow [?] went to the island. They carried me and Elsie Scruggs. I am so glad that she let me go. Ben carried me to Mr Dewss. Kate come and staid a few minutes. Am sorry but cant helpe it now. I have bin a sleep.

A good day. Ben & and Mr Owen planted corn this evening. This morning Ben went to Gretna to meet Jim. They got home about 2 oclock in the evening. Jim worked in the garden. I tried to stop the chickens out of the garden. Josie got dinner. We both went to Marvins this evening. Jim has gone up there tonight. 9 oclock

A good day. Ben finished planting corn and fixed some land for water mellons seed. Jim draged his new ground. He had one of Marvins horses. Josie done a big washing and sewed this evening. I got dinner and churned this evening. I worked a few gourd plants and pulled dirt in the ice house hole. Went to Larries a few minutes then went to the plant bed for salit.

A rainy morning. Did not rain long. The boys planted a little tobacco then fixed land to plant. Mr Owen went to George Blairs to buy corn. Did not get any. Josie ironed all the morning. I cooked some onions and made a bread pudding, fried ham, and made bread & coffee. Josie planted some beans this evening. I did not do any thing much. Edna and I planted 180 potato slips. My lady cow has bin sick all day.

A good day. We need rain so bad. Ben & Mr Owen hauled a stack of hay from Odie Kellies. Jim and Henry replanted corn. Josie ironed and got dinner. Marvin carried Reese & Edna and I to Banister River. Ben & family come after us. We caugh a few fish. Carrie washed to day. 9 10 oclock

A beautiful day. Ben plowed in his corn. Jim worked in his tobacco until twelve. This evening Jim & Ben and Marvin went to Motleys Mill to a road meeting. They got back a bout sundown. Josie ironed all the morning and done the most of getting dinner. This evening she bathed the children. Ada & Davis Hutch erson come over here to tell me that they would take me to meeting tomorrow. I thank them. 8 30 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben & Owens plowed corn. Josie and got dinner and churned. After dinner Edna and I went to try and get some straw berries. We got a few. Kate Harvey come while I was gone. Marvin & Carrie and the girls went to Altavista. Paul and Roy staid here. Reese plowed. 9 oclock

A good day. We need rain very bad. The men folks finished plowing over their corn this evening. Ben & Henry and Franklin and I went to Long Island. I fished a little while. Caught a little cat fish. Ben bought a few things from [?] Josie done a big washing to day and ironed some this evening. Carrie & the children come a little whil this evening. I am a sleep and blot my book. 9 15 oclock Note written upside down across the top of the page: I got a box of shells that John sent me.

A good day. Jim & Mr Owen finished plant tobacco. Ben replanting his. Marvin and his crowd went to Kates and helped Irvin finish planting his crop. I drawed a few plants. Josie got dinner and made Ben a shirt. We cooked turnip salit for dinner and had corn bread. I did enjoy it. I got an invatation to the school at Charlottsvill. Bruce Reynolds sent it. 9 oclock

A good day. Ben worked on the land for peas. Owen plowed corn. Jim made a crate for the calf and worked some in the garden this evening. Henry plowed some. Josie done a big washing. Got done by twelve. I got dinner. This evening Marvin let Reese take me to White Falls. He made the trip ok. I am so glad that nothing happened. Virginia Wooding spent the day with Edna. 9 30 ocl

A good day. Jim and Marvin & Reese went to Gretna and carried the calves. Ben & Henry plowed and sowed peas. Mr Owen plowed in his corn. Josie and got dinner. Carrie and the children come down here. Janie & Aubra Brumfield come this evening. I went to Johnson Reynolds. Johnson come and got a cat and 3 kittens. We got a barrel of flour to day. 9 30 oclock
