Jim and Ben had bad colds I hope they wont get sick. We heard today that Sam Owen family has flue. There is a lot of sickness a bout. I have bin busy most all day. Done all the cooking that has been done. Milked & churned dried clothes by the fire There have not been any one to see Josie. Today I got a letter from Elsie Brumfield this evening I want to hear from Carrie's folks so bad.
A colde day partly cloud. Jim and Ben stripped tobacco There has not an automobile passed here today. Mrs. Booker come a few minutes this evening. The children went to school Josie has bin easy most of the time Today Mabel put on shoes and stockings Etta Gilbert come this morning She washed the dishes and swept the floors That was a lot of help to me milked and churned cooked dinner washed dishes and then ?oded a while Then ironed some I am so anxious to hear from Marvin's folks and want to hear from Nellie I am a fraid some of them are sick There is so much sickness about now
A beautiful day The boys strpped tomacco Mr Booker helped them This evening Josie has been bad off all day. Mrs Booker cooked and brought her dinner She eat what she could and was glad of it. Kate Harvey come to see me today I was very glad that she come. Etta Gilbert helped me was dishes this morning Kate washed them at dinner and Henry helped me tonight I had the longest nest this evening that I have had this year Kate churned I worked the butter and ???nted it The children went to school Harvey got in wood and Edna brought water. Franklin wont work if he can help it
A clear cold day. Jim and Ben finished burning their plant bed and sowed it. They got seed from Mr. Edmonds. Edmonds? folks are sick with the flue. Nellie washed some today. I got dinner. I cooked a chicken and baked some bread for to send to Mr. Owen's people. Their little boy died today. Mrs Owen has pneumonia. I do hope that she may get well. Ben has gone to Owens tonight. Mrs Carr churned for me a gain today. Mabel & Edna has gone with Mrs. Carr upstairs. Edna has come back. Today has been the coldest day of the winter.
A colde windy day. Ben loaded his tobacco on the waggon this morning and started for Gretna this evening. Intends to stay at Marvin's tonight. I hope it will not rain while he is gone. Nellie ironed some this morning. I got dinner and churned. Mr. McEray ?? come here this morning. Mrs Carr did not come down stairs until twelve o'clock. She had a head ache. The children went to school. I am so near asleep that I can't write.
Cloudy most of the day. Jim smoked the meat. John went from here this evening. Ben went to Lee Brumfields. Helped strip tobacco. Oscar Brumfield went to Gretna with tobacco. Ben come by Kates. She was not so well. I hope that she may get well yet. John Brumfield went to see Denia Blair. She is very much complaining. Henry and Edna went to school. Terable walking they say. Nellie has done the most that has been done today. She milked two cows this morning while I milked one. I churned and fixed the butter. Have mended a few things today.
A cloudy day. The men folks put a lot of wood under the porch. I am glad that it is done. Ben and Henry walked to Straight Stone this evening. Got Edna some overshoes. She is so glad of them. Nellie done most of the cooking. I churned and washed a little for Mabel. Nellie let Mabel go with her to her room this evening. She was so glad to go. Endna and Franklin helped to get in wood. I hope that all of the sick are better and will get well. George Blair come for some work that John Ward had done for him.
A good day. Ben planted some tulips and sweet peeas. Jim walked about in the mud. Nellie went to George Blairs and spent today. I think she enjoyed the day. Henry went to Straightstone to Sunday school. Lawson Emerson come with Henry. They went some where this evening. I got what dinner was got and churned. This has been one lonesome Sunday. Nellie said there was a crowd at Blairs. I wish I could go to Kates and Mollies and to see them all but I can't. The roads is so bad and I am not well.
A windy day but clear. Jim and Ben cut some wood. Ben Went to Strait Stone and carried some chickens. I cooked meat and made scrapple. Churned and made three pints of butter. Nellie cut Jim some shirts. Mabel has been very good today. Heard that the sick was getting on very well. Mrs. Farmer come to Kates yesterday. Edna got a cake from Emily for a valentine.
Irvin and Virginia come a little while. I was glad to see Virginia. Mollie Reynolds come. I was so glad that she did come. Johnson come after her on the buggy. Henry and Edna went to school. We did not let Franklin go as it was so cold. 9 oclock. The children has come to go bed. The children has bad colds.
A cold clear day. The men cut wood. Henry went to the store and got oil for the engine. Nellie got dinner. I boiled chitterlings at the wash house. I washed a few clothes. I cut some bed quilt pieces for Kate. I churned. The children has had a time playing most of the day. Edna tried to clean out the spring. She helped it a lot. She dipped some water for me to use about washing. We have not seen anybody today except for Booker. He come to get some help about fixing up his saw. Mabel has gone to sleep. 9:30 oclock
A clear colde day. Jim and John Ward (col) cut wood. Ben plowed. Colde enough that the land froze as he turned it up. Nellie cut out some little suits for Mrs. Fitz boy. She done the most of the cooking and dishwashing. Mr. Thomson sent here for butter. I let him have a little. Christine Reynolds come. She wanted butter. I could not let her have any. I churned this evening. The children went to school. Mr. [Duepe?] was sick and did not teach. I hope he won't be sick much.
A good day. We all staid at home except Henry. He went to Sunday School and to Mr. Jim Powers. Nellie went to Johnsons. This evening Nellie made pies for dinner. Today she bathed the children and dressed them. I milked and churned and helped about dinner some.
A cloudy morning and some rain. No rain this evening. Ben and Jim went to Renan this morning. This evening they cut and mauled. Ben got hurt. The wedge hit him in the face and cut his lip and a gash in his face. He went to the Dr. and had it fixed up. I hope it will not get bad. Nellie and I got dinner. I churned and printed the butter. Nellie sewed some. I cut pieces for Kate to put together. I went to Norman Bookers a while this evening. Mrs Booker gave me some sweet potatoes as nice as I ever saw. I am so glad of them.
A beautiful day. Warm. Mabel has played out of doors for the first time this year. The men folks hauled in some feed. Nellie done most of the cooking and churned and killed a chicken. This evening I washed some the clothes. Dried and I ironed them. Irvin harvey come for some butter. He got two pounds. Kate Hulel[?] and & Christenia Reynols come. They got one pound. Henry and his father went to Mr. Mayhews to play games. Franklin cried to go and Edna wanted to go. They did not.
A cloudy day. Ben plowed all day today. Jim went to Renan for some seed. He sowed some peas, I think. I have not done anything much today. Cut some cress salit. Helped the children shuck a shock of corn. Milked and churned. Set a hen. Nellie made a canvas for the plant bed this morning and done some other sewing this evening. Hattie washed here today. The clothes did not dry much. Heard today that Lee had bin appointed commisioner of the I don't know what. Mrs Booker sent and got the quilting frames this morning. Guess she is fixin to quilt some.
A clear windy day. The men did not do much work of any kind. Ben went to Renan and to Gretna. He went with Jack Hubband to Gretna. Nellie got dinner and churned. This evening I went to Mr. Booker and helped Mrs. Booker quilt. The children went to school. Heard today that Mildred Fergerson has pneumonia. I do hope that she may get well again. Had a letter from Carrie. They are well now. Bend and Jim are invited to a barn raising tomorrow. Hope the wind won't blow like it has today.
A good day. The men worked on the pasture fence. Ben went to Lee's to a [cutting mach?]. We had [creasy salit] for dinner. The land was frozen this morning. The children went to school. I churned and baked some sweet potatoes. Afther the children come home, we shucked two shocks of corn. Henry brought it to the corn house. Mr. Mayhew and Eula and Harold come and they played games.
A rainy morning. Ben went to Renan this morning. He went to see Kate Harvey a while. Got home at dinner time. Jim hung up the meat and smoked it today. Nellie got dinner. I got breakfast and churned and milked. I pieced on my quilt. Heard that Mildred is better. Do hope she may get well. I had a letter from Carrie today. [?hanles] Tomson sent here today for butter. Miss Reynolds was on the car with him. Mabel has been cross today. Ben brough a calf from Jim Farthings today.
A good day. Ben and [sic] ditched on the branch. Jim cut some briers. Nel got dinner. I cut some salit for dinner. I churned twice today. I worked on my quilt a while. Then went to Johnsons to see Mildred. She is very sick. I am uneasy a bout her but hope she may get well for Julia's sake. Nannie [Fale?] is staying there this week. Johnson brought me home. Hattie washed here today. They yoked my calf today. I hope she may stay in the pasture. The paper come today.
A very rainy day. The branch has bin out of the banks all day. We got using water from a spring up in the woods. Ben and Henry went for water this evening. Nellie come from Johnson Reynols. This morning Reubin brought her home. Henry went to school. Ben and Jim cant do any thing out of doors. Nellie got dinner. Edna churned. I finished my quilt squares. It rained so hard that I did not get the eggs.
A good day. Jim and John Ward shucked corn all day. Nellie washed a big washing of cloths and got dinner and churned. The children went to school. Henry went to Renan for coffee. Ben has not come home yet. Lizzie Bennett come. Gorden brought her. Edna and I got a letter from Mrs. Car today.
A good day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Then Ben and Nellie and I went to Straitstone. We bought some things. We come home and I got dinner. Oscar and Effie and Hellen and Hilda and Miss Finch come for some flowers. They would not stay for dinner. After dinner Ben and I went to Gretna. Come home by Johns Saw Tenier a few minutes then went to Curries. Found them all well. Got a lot of turnip greens. Got home o.k. Nellie had made her a dress and killed a chicken. Dressed it. Lelia Ward churned while I was gone. Henry is sick tonight.
A good day. Ben and Jim plowed today. Jim planted some in the garden. I planted some dahlias. The children went to school. Mabel staid out doors most of the day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Emthied[?] the milk and churned. Fed the chickens and got dinner and washed the dishes and rocked Mabel to sleep and read the paper some and fed the chickens and milked the cows and got supper and washed dishes. Now we are ready to go to bed. I have to stay here so close that I dont know anything to write.
A very windy daty. The men worked on their land all day Ben tried to burn the honey suck in the grave yard. Did not burn well. The children went to school. Lelia come here a little while this morning. Hatie washed today. The wind blowed the clothes all about. They soon got dry. I have bin busy all day.Worked the button holes in Henrys shirts milked the cows twice churned once cooked breafast dinner and supper. Washed dishes tonight.
A good day. Ben went to the mill. Did not get any brand. Jim worked on the fence. John Ward went fishing. Lelia Ward come and done some sweeping. I put away some quilts this morning and churned and got dinner. This evening I got Mabel to sleep. Johnson Reynols come a few minutes this morning. Kate come a little while. She wanted cymbling seed. The children went to school. Ben finished Henrys clown suit this evening. I killed a hen this evening. Mabel got a letter from Evelyntoday. Whe was glad to [pen ran off page?].
A windy day and colde. The coldest that I ever saw for the time of year. I am a fraid that all green things will be killed. We had storm last night. Rain and wind. I am glad it was no worse. The men put in fertilizer this morning. It has bein so colde and windy that they have not done much of any thing this evening. Mabel got a note from her daddy this evening. I hope he may get home tomorrow. I have milked, cooked, and churned, parched coffee and done nothing all day. Daysie the dog is missing tonight. I am afraid some one has killed her.
A good day. Ben and Jim and all that could drop or plant tobacco went to the field. Mabel staid out all day for her first time. She had a good time playing. Lelia Ward and her children was at the field this evening. I churned and got dinner. Fried some nice meat and had Irish potatoes. Stewed some apples and picked some strawberries. Baked corn and wheat bread. Have not seen any one to day to hear any news. I planted a few beet plants in the garden. Found one of my hens dead this morning. The first poppy bloomed today. It is beautiful.
A good day. Some clouds in sight but no rain here. The men planted some tobacco this evening. Marvin and Carrie and four children come today. I was so glad. They staid and eat dinner. Then went right away. I was churning when they come. I had beans on cooking. Edna beat up her first cake today. It was fine. Made by receipt in the cook book. We had beets for dinner. The first that growed this year. I put out 20 little chickens today. Henry has had the tooth ache this evening so he did not work for a while.
A hot day. No rain yet. Today the men plowed in the crop. I don't know what. Ben went to Strait Stone for salt. I sent 7 doz eggs. All the children went with him. I done the same olde thing. Got dinner and churned. I cooked snaps. The last mess until some growes. Cooked potatoes and beets. Picked a half gallon of black berries. Had them with cream. I went and picked a gallon of berries and canned them. Berries are fine this time. I am so tired of staying here and so much expected of me. If I was young and strong it would be better.
