Friday, March 12, 1920

Cloudy this morning and a hard rain at twelve. Jim & Ben did not do much on account of weather. I helped with the work and milked. Josie made Franklin two pair of over alls. I went to Marvins. Carried Carries quilts home. Marvin was shuckin corn. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben commenced on a garden house for Mr Owen.

Tuesday, March 16, 1920

Cloudy day & some rain. Jim & Ben and Owen cut feed & then sawed wood. They got done by sundown. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie sewed some this morning. This evening she went to Strait Stone. She carried ten and a half dozen eggs. She was not gone long. I stayed with the children. Carrie come a few minutes this evening. She brought a nice cake. I am glad of it.

A good day. The best that we have had this year. The boys finished sawing wood for Marvin this morning then put on the plant bed cloths. Jim Emerson passed here to day. Henry & Edna went to school to day. I got dinner. Josie ironed. This evening we all went to Carries a while. I come by the turnip patch & cut some sallet for dinner to morrow. It looks like rain tonight. I do hope it wont rain.

A good day. Jim plowed in the new ground. Mr Owen plowed with two horses. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked and churned. I made two pots of soup. I cut some salit for tomorrow. Carie come & cut some for her self. I cut Kate a mess & Reese carried it to her. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben borrowed John Hutchersons boots & ditched some this evening. Tonight Ben & Jim & Marvin has all gone to Strait Stone.

Friday, March 26, 1920

A rainy morning. The children did not go to school. Mrs. Wooding come by this evening and left Virginia to play with Edna. The men folks planted posts to put up a fence. Josie ironed. I got dinner. Got three boxes of borax from Russel Peak and finished my soap makeing.

Josie heard that there is to be a party at Mr Powers to night. They were not invited.

A rainy morning & rainy again tonight. Ben & Jim finished the hen house. I cut salit this morning. Henry went to school to day. Virginia Wooding played with Edna this evening. I went to Carrie this evening and got some eggs to set my hens. Tonight Effie & [?] They had an entertainment at the church to night. I would of bin glad to go but the roads is so bad that you cant run a car. 9 oclock

Rain this morning. The branch was out of the banks. To night it is colde and windy. We all eat dinner at home this evening. Ben & Marvin Henry and Reece went to the Sulpher Springs. Josie Edna Franklin and Mabel and I all went to Marvins. Eula & Harold & Russel Mayhew come. The children had some colored eggs. I think they had a good time. Johnson Reynolds was at Marvins. Jim was there two. It has bin a bad Easter. I am glad that we are as well as usual.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim & Owen worked on a ditch this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. The surveyor was at Thomsons. Johnson Reynolds & Marvin Smith went with Ben. Josie ironed. I went to Marvins this evening. Henry & Edna went to school. Lee Brumfield passed here to day. Stoped a few minutes. Marvin is here to night. They are all at the dining room. Josie is at work on Mabels flannel

A clear colde windy day. Ben went with Johnson and Mollie and Christena to Danville. Jim and Owen plowed this evening. Josie washed this morning. I staid with Franklin & Mabel. Roy & Hazel Smith come and got some flowers this evening. Carrie & the children come a few minutes. Heard to night that the guano is at the Depot. Ben has gone to Mr Mayhews to see if he wont haul for them. Jim has gone to Marvins. Henry & Edna went to school. Dr [?] come over there.

Cloudy nearly all day. Ben and Mr Mayhew went to the island for guano. Mayhew hauled 4 [?] loads for the boys with his truck. Jim plowed in his new ground this evening. He plowed some in the garden and planted some things in the garden. Josie got dinner. She baked a cake. Henry & Edna went to school. This evening Josie & the children and I went to Marvins. I cut some turnip greens. Henry went to Aunt Kates after some peas.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain tonight. Ben & Jim planted potatoes this morning. This evening Ben went to Cedar Forest for some corn that Mrs Car gave him. Jim worked at home. Tonight Jim went to Marvins. Josie washed a big washing. Kate come a few minutes. She wanted some eggs to set. Josie and all the kids and I went to Carries a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. The surveyer was on his job today.

A colde windy day. Jim and Ben & Marvin went to Strait Stone this morning. This evening Ben & Marvin went to Chatham. Jim cut wood for Kate. Carrie & the children come down here. Josie baked a cake for Franklins birth day. I think the children enjoyed it. Mollie come a little while. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie & I have not done anything in the way of settled work. Nursed [?]& cooked a little. Franklin is four years olde today.

A clear cool day. There was a big frost this morning. Jim & Ben covered the hen house this evening. Josie got dinner. I sewed a little. This evening we all went to Marvins. Henry & Edna went to school.

I wrote Lizzie Bennett a letter to night. I sold Nat Wooding some butter to day.

A good day. Jim & Ben and Owen hauled out the straw and put it on the land. Major Rison come here to day. Josie got dinner and ironed what time she could. The school closed today. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie & Carrie made Edna a hat. They embrodier it some. I think it is pretty. I got my check for the interest on my Liberty Bonds.

A good day. Cool for this time of year. Ben plowed with two horses. Jim clean up the ground for him to plow. Mabel has cried most of the day. I got dinner and washed dishes. I went to Marvins a while this evening. The dogs broke up one of the hens this evening. Edna has bin crying with the tooth ache. Jim & Ben has gone to Marvins tonight.

I let Nat Wooding have a pound of butter.

A good day. Jim & Ben went to Long Island for guano. Ben & Henry went a gain this evening. Got home a bout 10 oclock at night. Owen plowed. Josie finished Edna dress. I got dinner. Carrie and her little children come a little while. Carrie washed to day. Ben got 100 of sugar from Thomson. Paid 22 cts per pound. That is the highest that I ever paid for shugar.

Rain this morning and a little this evening. Clear tonight. Ben carried Jim to Chatham. Carried caned fruit and lard. Ben get home before dark. Josie ironed some and got dinner. I milked and churned and went to the plant bed for salit. I went to Carries a few minutes this evening. Edna & Franklin went to Mr. Edmonds to play with Franklin Edmond.

A beautiful day. Cool for May. There was frost this morning. We all staid at home except Henry. He went over to Renan with Reed Smith. Marvin and Ben and Jim rambled a round most of the day. Carrie come a few minutes with the little girls. Paul and Roy played with Edna and Franklin all the evening. I wrote John a letter today. There has bin lots of passing here today. 9 oclock We had our first fried chicken to day.

A good day. The boys planted some tobacco today and plowed some. Josie and I got dinner. I churned this evening. I went to Marvins. Got some bean seed and some butter beans. I planted the beans and gave the butter beans to Mrs Owen. Today is Lizzie Bennetts birth day. Henry & Edna droped plants. Henry pulled off my shoes tonight for me. 9 oclock

A rainy morning. Did not rain long. The boys planted a little tobacco then fixed land to plant. Mr Owen went to George Blairs to buy corn. Did not get any. Josie ironed all the morning. I cooked some onions and made a bread pudding, fried ham, and made bread & coffee. Josie planted some beans this evening. I did not do any thing much. Edna and I planted 180 potato slips. My lady cow has bin sick all day.

A good day. We need rain so bad. Ben & Mr Owen hauled a stack of hay from Odie Kellies. Jim and Henry replanted corn. Josie ironed and got dinner. Marvin carried Reese & Edna and I to Banister River. Ben & family come after us. We caugh a few fish. Carrie washed to day. 9 10 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben & Owens plowed corn. Josie and got dinner and churned. After dinner Edna and I went to try and get some straw berries. We got a few. Kate Harvey come while I was gone. Marvin & Carrie and the girls went to Altavista. Paul and Roy staid here. Reese plowed. 9 oclock

A good day. Ben worked on the land for peas. Owen plowed corn. Jim made a crate for the calf and worked some in the garden this evening. Henry plowed some. Josie done a big washing. Got done by twelve. I got dinner. This evening Marvin let Reese take me to White Falls. He made the trip ok. I am so glad that nothing happened. Virginia Wooding spent the day with Edna. 9 30 ocl

A good day. We had a little shower. Jim & Ben worked tobacco and Henry Edna went to Johnson Reynolds for a few butter beans. Josie got dinner. I washed a little. Josie and the children went to Marvins a few minutes. I went to the plant beds for salit. Tom Edmons come for some vinegar. 9 oclock Virginia Harvey come this morning for some butter.

Rain the most of the day. Ben replanted tobacco and Marvin replanted all day. Josie made Edna a dress. I got most of the dinner. We had cabbage. I enjoyed them. I planted a few butter beans then went to Marvins. Carrie was have a time keeping the boys in from the rain. 8 oclock Mrs Short is at Mr Owens tonight.

A good day but windy. We all staid at home until after dinner except Edna. She went to Sunday School with Marvin. I went with Marvin and Carrie to Gretna to meet Jim. Mr Emet and Dr Will Smith and their wives come to Marvins a few minutes this evening. Doris & Janie and Christenia Rey nolds come and staid a while this evening 9 oclock

A good day. They pulled a house full of tobacco today. Marvin & Carrie, Paul & Roy went to the [?] at Camp Branch. They all eat dinner with us. We were glad to have them. Kate Harvey come down a while this evening. Edna and Mabel caught a fall to night. Did not hurt them very much. 8:30 oclock

A rainy day. The boys pulled some leaves and got wet. Josie went to see the Owen baby. This morning Nellie made some preserves. I caned three cans of peaches and made some preserves. Evylin went to see Virginia this morning. Edna went to Marvins and got some butter and meal. We had snaps and corn and stewed & raw tomatoes, peaches and cream for dinner. I do hope it is going to clear up now. 8:30 oclock
