Dear Sirs,
Sorry I am a little late in answering your inquiry but it was shuffled around in the mail for quite some time. I was very glad to see that Stanford is taking such an active interest in the future of the veterans.
As to my answer as to whether I am returning to Stanford after the war. Yes certainly, that has been my main thoughts most of the time. I was studying aeronautical engineering before the war and am not too sure as to whether I will continue in the future. It will be in the field of engineering at least.
Your questions of the content, requirements, and methods is a

very hard question to answer. Not knowing what the complete courses are for a degree naturally I must leave to the advice of those who are experienced in the field. One thing I know is I want to take several courses for my own pleasure and hope that something is done here. I realize that there are elections but this I don’t believe will cover them.
As to my own personal case I have in mind

[proper?] use of speech and also to have my writing return to its original level. I have already taken this course so credit is a point of debate. I also wish to take a course in grawing which will aid a engineer as far as sketching so [forth?] and have arrived at the conclusion that I want to learn to play the piano. All these are just personal whims aside from my regular courses so make rather a mixed [my?] affair.
As to housing conditions that is really a hard one. I wish to join a fraternity when I am back but with the age of its members so young it makes me hesitate to think of it. I don't want anuthing to do with dorm life so wish a smaller place.

I have given quite a bit of thought to getting married so naturally I would want to live with my wife in that case. So my housing problem you see, is something undecided.
The extra-curricular activities should stay about the same as they are sufficient. Sports is the main item plus dances so [naturally?] are fine. My main desire is to return to the original school. Having been to five universities since I left Stanford, in A.S.T.P., and on my own it is by far the best school in its manner. It always seems to be several years ahead of the rest and I hope it [keeps?] the same way in the future.
Sincerely, Philip B. Welch
