Monday March 1st 1852

Cool in morning, but a pleasant day. Went to sur vey for David Scott. Laid off a lot for James Buss for 20 A. but on calcution afterwards only 19 1/2. Laid out a lot of 20 Acres for John Sentman. came home after night and met Leon L. Tyson who wanted me to go on Thursday to survey road. Did not promise him Messrs Wilson returned to their homes.

--- 2 -- Raining in morning. clears up Made plats for Buss & Sentman Worked in shop in afternoon. Robt McKay married.

---3-- Frosty and cold air went to Elkton in afternoon for boards and iron.

March 4th 1852

Pleasant in morning went sale of Dr Brookings's property. Large attendance. Snow in afternoon and very disagreeable. J.D. Carter paid me $13.65 the amt of bill against his father. Israel Reynolds paid his bill $4.87 1/2 -- Sherer engaged me to write deed from Dave Wilson & wife. paid Wm Campbell $8.-

--- 5 -- Worked in shop -- paid Xavier $10. -- Roads very muddy. John W. Simpers paid $3 for Boring machine-

--- 6 -- Worked in shop. Xavier finished work but did not burn brush nor split rails - Bad roads

March 6th continued

Finished Todd's cart -- Franklin bought Jonathan's Carriage for $35, payable in six months and sooner if he makes sale of the carriage -- Franklin bought of me 2 tires for $1.26 - Loaded wagons with H. F. Scarborough, he to pay me $12. Paid Thoms M Hayes $1.50 in full

--- 7 --- Sunday Stayed at home all day- child sick -- wrote memoir of John Churchman. D.J & Sarah called in evening.

8 Roads very muddy. worked in shop -- I killed calf Mother came and stayed all night -- I went with Thomas Brown to H.G. Mackall's

and they entered into an a greement for mill for 10 years for $2000. $350 to be paid cash and 100 on 10 May 1853 -- $1000 to be laid out in repairs and the balance of $650 to be paid in yearly payments of $30 for the last 5 years of the terms Thomas Brown to have the mill and house attached and the Lot between the race and creek of about 5 acres on which he is to put the manure, and of the mill water fall down on a new wheel is to be made. The expense is to be taken out of the last payment of $650. The wheat and corn for Mackall's family use to be ground free of to(__) & the article of agreement is in my possession

Went in morning to Fair Hill and laid out 4 Half acre Lots for Geo. Chaden, Went from there to D. Scotts--got dinner and went to survey Lot for John Scott at Cowantown of 4 acres -- Have 4 deeds to write for Chaden + 1 for J Scott & Article of agreement for Sentman
