Sir
Enclosed you will find a copy of a letter I have this day addressed to parties who were bidders for the contract for building a Light Keepers dwelling at Cape Disappointment W.Ty. As the plan of the proposed building at Cape Foulweather is the same as the one adopted for Cape Disappointment I have deemed it advisable to invite proposals for the Same and would like to have you send me a bid should you desire to do so. The plans and specifications of the building are in this office and can be seen during office hours by any one you wish to send here to examine them for you. The following are the bids on the Cape Disappointment building, which I send you for your information

Office Light House Engineer 13th District, Portland Oregon July 22 1871
Sir
I have received a bid for building a Keepers Dwelling at Cape Foulweather Oregon, the duplicate of the one you bid upon for Cape Disappointment. I had expected to do the work by days labor, but it is possible it may be let out by contract if by such a course the work can be done much more economically. The building would have to be inclosed (sic) by the 1st of November 1871 and completed before June 30 1872. The site of the Light House is about 4 1/2 miles from Newport on Yaquina Bay. A half mile of road on the Cape which will be built by the Government will give a wagon road between the Cape and Newport, which would need some repairs (266)

costing only a few hundred dollars. As you have already estimated the cost of the same building at Cape Disappointment, will you please make a bid for this work so that I shall receive it by the 5 of August. The bid need not be accompanied by any check or guarantee and is made with the understanding that it will not be binding if not accepted by the 10 of August. Any further information in my possession will be furnished upon application.
Very Respectfully
Henry M Robert Major of Engineers L.H. Engr. 13 Dist.
