27th Raining this morning & warm my wife went up as far as Jerrys yesterday & it raining & she returned I have not seen little Henry & claiborne since last Saturday claiborne came home last evening this morning [torn] & yesterday 26th Milly Ann & Ben went & they have not returned yet, tho & Henry & Lila & El attends to every thing we want Jerry came here yesterday – the weather is Rainy & warm nearly like May or June

28th. cleared off to day & I went up to see Peggy Sick at Cedar Hill & to old place to see about negroes & Hired Tom Kelley Wyatt & W^m Hunt agreeable to agreement for old place Jerry not at home Turned Cooler Sent Peggy some medicine by W^m

29th. Went up to Cedar Hill to day after my hogs & bro^t home 5 Large shoats 2 Smaller 2 Pigs for my wifes House Pigs 3 in Henrys Pen 1 I give him & 2 they are to raise for me & he got one some where else making 4 he has 2 for me & 2 for him, & Bro^t one young Sow Turned out for me making 13 we bro^t from Cedar & left 8 2 Sows 1 of which is mine If I want it & 6 Pigs for Jerry, claiborne & little Henry has not done any thing for a week tomorrow of Consequence likely for rain again Abram Dews & son Sam worked in shop to day at Cedar Hill put on Cart Tire & cut & welded my waggon Tire, mended clevice oxe ring sharpened 3 G.[rub] Hoes 2 for me & 1 for Jerry & nailed on 1 pr H. shoes for Jerry & I owe him $1.25 for it. 30th Snowing last night & this morning & till 12 Oclock snow about 6 Inches Deep

1870 Jany 22nd I went to shop got 1 Dicth Dutch Plow & singletree, no Colter Saml getting slabs for Mr Whitehead in morning in evening I found him & Wm cutting & Caroline & Keatts went to old place fixed agreements with Randol Sam & Charlotte Hodnette & Jorden Graves for 1870 weather cloudy & moderate Nannie has been sick all the week will take some medicine tonight

23rd Moderate day stayed at home Nannie

24th Hung up our meat this morning & fanned out Our wheat & divided it mine in Bbl or Hhd in ^Toll Corn & bbl. 1 Bbl my own some onions in it & ^Bags Hh my own make the smallest Hogs - & Box behind door in Granary is Richards, Mr Keatts Plowing with 2 Horses for Tobacco Sam & Caroline in new ground cloudy & moderate weather - could not find my Hogs sold Sam 15 lb Lard Butter Pot & all Pot to be taken ^& paid in cash Pot to be deducted Lard @ 21¢ per lb

25th Striping tobacco over next to Mr Keatts owens Barn. Rained nearly all night last night Lowry gone to Barn the striped in owens barn

26th Sam & Wyatt got Boards for Mr Whitehead nearly all this day, they cut a little while in evening Mr Keatts & Carolene cut nearly all day. - I went to Mill for Mr Keatts Carried ½ Bbl & ½ Bbl wheat for him I let him have I also carried 1 Bushel wheat for Mr Wyatt, & brot back from Mt Airy 1 Box & 4 flour Barrels Bot of Jacobs P. Graves 40¢ for flour bbls & 2/3 for Box making 77½ Cents owe to Jacob Beautifull weather found all my hogs but 2 one of which is my Boar Large size from moses Sow but they went off again
