at 00.30 PM Passed Hawsers and the trip "William Wallace" at 00.40 PM Cast off from the buoy & proceeded down the river in tow. at 3 Set the topsails & top gallt [gallant] sls [sails] and cast off the steam tug Fresh breeze from SW & fine made all plain sail at 5. Abreast the North Foreland. In Royals & Fo [Fore] Jib Tacked ship as necessary. Midnight Fresh WSW wind & fine So [South] Foreland Lights SE by E 1/2 E.
June 23rd
a.m. Fresh SW wind tacked ship as required at 8 Tacked off Folkstone. 9 Tkd [Tacked] at 10 Tacked off Dungeness Lt [Light] House BS N 1/2 W. Noon Tacked NWd at 4PM Tacked off Hastings 5.30 Tacked NWd at 7.30 Tacked off the land. Fresh NW wind & fine. Midnight Beachy Hd [Head] Light North.
