Henry J. Nichols had some samples of wood that showed the work of the Elm tree beetle in New Jersey, something from which we so far have been spared as well as from the ravages of the Japanese beetle. But be fore warned to be on the lookout for the latter this summer as it is getting a foot hold nearer us all the time.

The treasurer's report gave us a balance of $4.24 and as our annual dues to be paid in May will take care of our expenses for the coming year, it was decided we give our balance to Mrs. Peyton Wheylan of the County Welfare Board to be used for the purchase of seeds for the gardens of those on Relief.

Readers for May meeting Eliza B. Thomas & Alice V. Farquhar.

Adjourned to Edgewood on May 4th.

We are always sorry not to see the Tanglewood garden later in the season when there is always so much to admire, but even on an early spring day we can but enjoy the natural beauty of the whole place.

Edgewood. 5-4-1937

The 4th of May was the loveliest spring day so far this year, so it was a most appropriate one for the meeting of the Horticultural at Edgewood.

The minutes of last meeting were adopted with one or two minor changes.

Eliza B. Thomas being absent [?] Nesbitt told by her request some thing of the wild flowers in California & his description of their weather & beauty made us long more than ever to see for ourselves that of which most of us present had only heard.

This rainy season there stores up the moisture that makes even the desert blossom & a visit to the Mohave in April finds the hundreds of acres a blaze of color, later on to become almost a barren waste.

Alice Farquhar the other reader had beft before the last meeting had concluded & so had not heard her appointment.
