8 How can verbeans be kept over winter? In a pit of cold frame, or a south room without fire where they will not be killed by freezing. D A Lea gave the plan of a florist near Wilmington for their treatment during summers. Plant in a bed to themselves and dust with sulphur every few weeks.
9 Would it do to trim grape vines now while the weather is pleasant? The favor ite time is February tho' it was thought it would do any time after they lose their leaves
10 Should seedling grapes from grapes raised in California be set out now? It was thought best to keep in the house the first winter
11 What is the best time to move rose bushes? Early in the spring.
12 How can a Calla Lily be made to bloom? No one had had any diffi culty in having them bloom after they were old enough. It was recommend ed that they should be repotted and have all the side shoots removed.
13 How can we have tuberoses bloom in the winter? Do not plant the bulbs till very late.
14 When should gladiolus roots be taken up? When the tops are dead.
15 Is the Lilium Rubrum hardy? Yes.

H/5/1891 -1- 269 Brooke Grove May 5th 1891 noon 42o to 50o Assembled at the usual hour. The absent were Longwood, Norwood, Riverton White Hall. Our guests were Alice Taylor, Lizzie Bond and Elizabeth Stabler.
The specimen were very fine: from Alloway peonies and a fine cactus, lettuce onions, pear vine 6 inches high and a tomato plant: from the Cedars, flowers, beautiful geraniums &c - and pink lilies and caladium roots for distribution: from Avalon two bouquets, one of them brilliant Nasturtiums; from Fair Hill flowers: from Hermon a cactus in bloom and a tomato plant from Sharon Persian lilacs: from Rockland tomato plants 8 in. high cabbage, lettuce, and egg-plants. From Falling Green, pea vine 12 in high, bean plant, corn 5 in high, beet squash and potato plants; from Rock Spring pea vine 12 in high, potato plat 11 in. corn 6 in onions and asparagus: from Tanglewood, flowers, tomato, beet, radish pea and bean plants. Riverside flowers. Dahlia tuberase and pink lily roots for distribution Elizabeth Stabler brought specimens of fruit from B. Gilpin Stabler's fruit farm in California. Almonds, figs, nectarines, pears, peaches 8 apricots

In our walk we found the flower garden extemely dry - A South exposure and few rains. A few roses and dahlias were blooming The vegetable garden had been very satisfactory. There were still plenty of Lima beans and tomatoes and winter vegetabes looked well as did the long row of Raspberry vines which had been trimmed and tied to a wire.
Our hostess showed the circumference of one of the big trees of California, by a string . When we formed a circle with it on the lawn it was hard to realize that a tree could be so large

2 What can be done to Cure blight in Bartlett Pears? Generally considered that it is the result of frozen sap but no remedy is renoun - Suggested to cut affected limbs close as it appears but cutting must be done far blow the place or knife should. be disinfected after each time - Also suggested to split back fully and wash with strong solution of Lye.
Jordan Stabler - a visitor - had no question but gave some interesting facts about the expense and care given to fruit Culture in California He saw one orchard where $8,000.00 has been spent in spraying and yet a good profit was made.
3. When is the right time to pull soup beans? About now - Pick as pods become a brownish yellow. Some advocate hand picking but generally the vines are pulled and spread in dry place where air can reach them - Beans can be threshed out with a flail
4 Are Sweet potatoes ready for eating? Yes - they are dry & good
