and we shall hope to hear from them. Readers for next time - Andrew Adams & Emma J. Stabler. Adjourned to meet at "Ten Oaks" on 5 July, "The Highlands" having asked to exchange with them. The gardens at Mt. Airy were much admired and especially lovely was the trellis covered with blooming roses skirting one edge of the lawn. Mariana S. Miller Secretary.

Ten Oaks 7 - 5 - '38 - The Horticultural was called to order by the president on July 5th on the lawn at Ten Oaks under the noble trees that give the place its name.

The reading & adoption of the minutes of the last meeting was followed by Emma Stabler's article on "Diplomacy in the Garden" - It told how the feminine gardner can work with the masculine member in a diplomatic way so as to get him to do the things that might cause irritation on his part or actual refusal to do them.

Our host was the other reader & gave us interesting excepts from Dr. Stout's book on "Day Lilies", he being a recognized authority on the subject.

Andrew commenced breeding Lilies 4 years ago & now has 50 varieties of his own in bloom & when we took our walk

There was a wonderfully fine display of fruits and vegetables and among the flowers were beautiful specimens of lilies, fine varieties from Ten Oaks

The hope that Andrew from the names given him for the Horticultural Lily will find one that he thinks suitable. Mrs. Floyd Harris of Virginia had the largest collection of lilies in this country and he had the privilege of naming one for her.

Our Community Council representative reported on the proposed opening of a health clinic in Montg. Co. if the money is forthcoming to finance it - and this locality was thought to be a good one for it. The vote was against dropping any of the meetings of the Council this year.

Questions

Emma Stabler's artemisia looks very forlorn though it had bloomed well earlier = she was advised to cut down to the ground and

a second, and was carried by vote. So hereafter, unless there may be a few, , very especial exceptions, we will look for this step toward economy in both linen & laundry. We were again reminded that it is a most important part of our program that we inform our hostess the evening before each meeting, how many from a family expect to attend.

If a family does not report to the hostess, and the name of said 'delinquents be given to your new, untried, inefficient Sec., she will proceed to take such steps in the matter as she thinks best! Emma Stabler was appointed to collect dues of 15 ¢ from each family.

The order of places for meeting this summer, was read. The first meeting at Falling Green then followed Fair Hill, Rockland, Riverside, Riverton, Tanglewood, & Invercauld.

The questions were many & varied.

Dr. & Mrs. Henry Nichols have expressed a desire to become members of the Hor. Society, so their names will be added to the waiting list.

The new Sec's book was purchased & cost $1.30.

Although Cornelia Bentley had kindly offered to copy the last years minutes, our Ex. Sec. said she would rather do it, as it would then complete her work as Sec.

Emma Stabler on behalf of the com. to collect dues from each family, reported she had not finished her work _ the Sec. has misgivings however, for she fears the large sum may have gone to the 3rd Liberty Loan or perchance to the last Red Cross drive.

The questions opened with one from our hostess in regard to a climbing rose that was turning yellow + leaves dropping off. Others had had the same trouble and no certain remedy offered.

The Chinese giant, bull nose Neapolitan (pemintoes?), were the best
