Frederick St left hin there on returning by Princes St. at the foot of Hanover Street. Met Mary & Jamie Hindmarsh. Knowing that Prince & Princess of Wales were in the Castle [struck through: went] asked them to go. after waiting in Castle Hill 5 or 10 minutes saw them come out. Crossed the hill saw them again. to avoid crowd went down Castle Stairs & saw them pass a third time. returned by the Mound & the Carriages again passed on their way to the Hotel ('Douglasses') too far off to see. Went to west end of Princes St. with Mary & Jamie met the rest of the party going to see the prince &c. asked to lunch with Mary & Jamie at Eaton Sq. rain came on
