had a long chat with him told him he would get troops home I got a certificate from him about having charge of troops. Called then at Capt. Eales gave him a Certificate in a rage at Wharton not bringing up a poney from Burmah for him. bid Capt. & Mrs. E good bye went to Cork's Saw a lot of Wharton's poneys some of the selling well went to Wilson's had tiffin with Wharton Called at Patersons office Capt. not there went on bd. a old ship of Some's called Mary Stuart Capt. & his wife on bd. left Wharton & walked up to my lodgings. played whist with Mrs. Philips Mrs. Campbell Miss Ogilvie, had a gB in my room at night with Philips Asked Wharton to dine with me tomorrow.

Tuesday March 15th. 1859

Wnt on bd. the "Ivanhoe" this morning Saw the Capt. promised to let me have £40- said I would see him at paterson's during the day. went on board the "Proserpine" breakfasted there with the Doctor Pyster Bowen & Dibbs bid them adieu. went on board the Huganout & another ship to look at the Cabins for Mrs. Walton went to my lodgings told Mrs. Walton of the Cabins. remained at home most of the day. Wharton came to dinner After dinner Capt. of Ivanhoe called met him upstairs with Wharton [Struck through: he gave me 100 rupee] [struck through: note went] told me to call at patersons & I would get 100 rupee note. went with Wharton to Patersons. Wharton advised

at Wilsons got some bac[c]y 3 rupees pound left a [struck through: late] 100 rupee note at Scott Thomsons with a note to Ferris to deduct what I had bought & 15 rupees got us this mg. from it & send a bill on to Kedgeree. Got a Gharrie at the house & went off on board the "Ivanhoe". C Philip with me breaking down ev[e]ry 5 minutes Philips left at Baboo Ghaut Got on board about nine get my Cabin & had traps put in met the other passengers at breakfast. Payne Ms. Payne Mrs. Richardson Mrs. Willis & 4 children Mr. Peterson pilot Mr. Jones. Leadsman Lane got under weigh about 10 slow work tides not suiting[?] very strong floods

"Ivanhoe" at sea

==Thursday March 17th till Wednesday March 23rd]]==

During this time we had been working our way slowly out wards. took us four days down the river steamer left us at Saugor. been very comfortable on board teasing Lane the Leadsman & the little girls. Peterson & Lane good friends learning to play chess. Pilot left us two days ago. the last two days have been really calm. Played proverbs & Cross passport[?] Last evening till 10 oclock

Wednesday March 23rd. 1859

Up before sunrise dead calm not more than than 100 yards below sandheads as yet Peterson & Capt. bathed on deck had great toothache & swelled face for two or three days steeped

it with T Op. better today W Tooth Cutting. small cuts paus coming up Capt. in a rage day exceedingly hot. se[e]ing my patient with sore leg every mg. An attempt at singing in the evening turned in at 9. sleep at night in the forms of the Cuddy Peterson on the other side night very warm.

Thursday March 24th. 1859

Up at 6 had cup tea dead calm this mg. still forenoon very hot very hot day & quite calm. whole party played proverbs in the evg. could not sleep for mosquitoes or bugs. on deck between 1 & 2 am nice mild breeze pleasant & cool passengers out also could not sleep for the heat
