Friday Jany. 28th. 1859
Looking out daily for the Arrival of the "Nemesis" reported she was to leave Calcutta on the 21st. re- mained on bd. all day went ashore with Young Law in the afternoon bought some Burmah boxes in the Bazaar. 31 Rupee.
Saturday Jany. 29th. 1859
Capt. Bowen Capt. Ripley went on a shooting xcursion this mg. in Ripleys boat. Mrs. Eales went to spend the day with Mrs. Verner. on our arrival in Kyouk Phyoo found Evans had gone to Akyab. 12 ocl Sighted the Nemesis [written above: fired a gun to bring Captn. back] Coming to [written above: be] our releif. Came into the harbour between 2 & 3. Dibbs & I went on bd. Saw Capt Goodwin Johnson introduced to Dr. Maynood brother of him in the Sydney Went to the Capts Cabin had a glass

Sunday Feby. 6th. 1859
Mail Sr. [Steamer] "Baltic" came in this mg. about 8 oclock. Capt. Hick of the "Lady head" came aboard. "Nemesis" arrived here at 10ocl went aboard the "Nemesis" between 12 & 1 brought off the Dr. & Dibbs Capt. Goodwin Mrs. & Miss Street. Lt officer came on bd. "Proserpine" in the Cutter. Lef officer dined with us. Dr. & third officer remained on bd. till 9. Capt. & Mrs. Eales Miss Hughesdon Mr. & Mrs. Motley came on board in the evening all ready to start tomorrow for Calcutta. received a letter from Agnes Taylor & Mr. Taylor & a newspaper xstrain[?] news from Mr. Thomson I think.

deck about 6 leaving the Harbour Watched till we cleared the Sewage Stables came out with us left as he saw a Ship in sight. lost sight of land about 1 A Strong head wind lasted throughout the day & night on the bridge nearly all night. turned in between 8 & 9.
Tuesday February 8th. 1859
Up before Sunrise fine cool morning still pursuing our way to Calcutta head wind still continuing. fine pleasant day expect to sight the pilot Brig tomorrow mg. had a long chat in the evg. with Mrs. Eales & Miss Hughesdon.
Wednesday Feby 9th. 1859
Up before sunrise this morning. Several ships in sight. Made the Pilot Brig between 8 & 9. Fielder our old "Belgravia" pilot came aboard. Mrs. Eales

& Miss H on deck. had a Chat with old Fielder. Passes the "Belgravia" off Saugor in tow of Fire Queen. Saw Wade on the forecastle. Old Wharton came out of the wheel house waved not near enough to speak. Passed the mail steamer "Simla" & a good many ships on their way down wards. Anchored below Culpee Went aft about 8 had a chat with Capt. Mrs. E & Miss H.
Thursday Feby. 10th. 1859
Up about 6 Fine cool mg. Got under weigh at daylight strong ebb tide. day very hot. arrived in Calcutta about 5 ocl. went on shore took a packee called at Ferris's no letters. took dinner then met Dr. Votch of Edinr. Wm. White taking Barry's place Mrs. Ferris Capt. & Mrs. McDonald

Arranged all my clothes this mg. ship to go next Tuesday 15th. Went out with young Philip to Larry's Bank posted a letter to Mr. Young. Called on Capt Eals & [struck through: went] Mrs. Eales had got some Chicken work. 3 Collars & Sleeves 15/. Went to China Bazaar bear up 3 shops for things to take home told them to send for a look tomorrow mg. playe[d] whist all evg. with Mrs. Philips & the Misses Ogilvie
